She's the playmaker of the pair. When she's in good form and executes her deceptive shot placements perfectly they can be a beast on the court. It's just recently, she hasn't been in good form since Olympics (apparently some injury?). So I'm glad we're able to catch a glimpse of her true form today.
Honestly, I didn’t think the Japanese pair had the conviction to defeat this pair. There were two things I observed that were different from their earlier matches. Firstly, Matsuyama looked to be playing so much better in this match. She was sharp and confident. Secondly, the Japanese pair were making much more use of blocks and pushes to the net rather than lifting when they already had position and control of the net area. I have long felt that this is a weakness in Japanese women’s doubles as all their pairs do this: They have the front court yet throw away the advantage by playing a high defensive lift. These girls are fast and skilful so why not look to control the net and take away the Chinese power advantage in the rear court?
Wait till you play professionally. Every pair wants to just 'attack' and the truth is attacking play exhausts stamina fast. You need to play it smart. Anyway, that's why they are professsional players, and you are not. Matsuyama has had made ton of unforced errors including this match, for this entire tournament, while Chharu Shida has been consistent through.
@@ChyeHeng17 This has nothing to do with attacking. It's about smarter defending. It's denying your opponents greatest strengths from them. In the case of the Chinese this is their physical power. If you keep lifting to them, they will keep smashing and dropping back to you. It's not aiming to win, it's trying to lose more slowly. A person does not need to be a professional player to see the natural flow of the game and recognize repeating patterns of play and their outcomes. As a coaching it was a major part of my job.
@@jackburtonstwin NO. If you lift half coutt to them, of course, the key is if you lift, lift it high and deep to the baseline which not many players could do accurately and consistently. One of the strength of Momota, is exactly that quality shots. Deep to the corners. Chiharu Shida pair has always been an attacking pair style, from Japan, not the rally type. And stop your nonsense, about lifting to them. Women's physicality can't just continue attacking, Need some rests in between. And I repeat again, Chiharu and Nami are not rally players. Both have similar strength in defense today, can't just blindly smash. Your theory, every knows it Captain Obvious.
It was not any surprise at all that Chen - Jia lost. Chen has not played any single match after Oympics 2024. Whether the Korean or Japanese pairs go on to become champions, either well deserved. Solid in defence, superb endurance and humble.
The key moment was in game 1 when Chen & Jia had a lead 16 - 13 and later had two game points but failed to convert. Once Matsuyama & Shida were able to win the first game, their gained confidence boost and proceed to win game 2 convincingly.
I'm so glad for ShidaMatsu. Yes, Chen hasn't played competitively since Olympics and obviously a bit rusty with low stamina, but that's more reason for them to use that to their advantage and win it. After consecutive losses against ChenJia, this feels good and I hope it will boost their confidence further in the finals against Baek/Lee. Nami obviously was in her best form today compared to earlier matches. She executed some very fine shot placements with minimal errors. They also have great stamina, which is always a good advantage against weaker opponents. Lastly, I think a lot of people expected them to lose looking their h2h. It's amusing when the commentators were discussing what the Japanese pair should do to counter ChenJia for most of the game, until it's clear that ChenJia is losing, they switched to what the Chinese should do. The crowd's cheer also grew more and more quiet towards the end. What a great upset this must be for the Chinese coach, only to have both pairs eliminated in SF. It's refreshing to have a non-chinese finals.
Everytime Nami blast it hard, Chiharu was high on the alert and she got me really excited with her swooping reaction. That is one good combination. ありがとう❕
its a farewell championship for lots of players, especially from China. From the looks of these ladies, they are women now, no girls anymore, both pair near the end of their pro life
Fr maybe it's because Qingchen was hiatus after the olympic so her performance is going down a little. I thought she wants to retire but when I google it, she never announce it.
Yeah, it's very uncharacteristic for ShidaMatsu because they usually have good communication. I was surprised to see I think I counted 2-3 times they just left the shuttle because they thought the other was going for it. I hope they don't make the same mistake tomorrow in final.
@@avanpiper Both the Chinese and Japanese were having problems with communication. The chinese pair were both going after each others shots and the japanese were waiting for the other partner to play the drop. I was going to say something but it would have been gender discrimination. :D. I'm sure the players and their coaches will have a talk about this error of judgement and yes I hope they don't repeat this in the Final.
As olympic gold medalist, they're automatically qualified for the WTF. I think she just wants to play with her partner in the final tournament of the year. It's still pretty impressive considering she didn't join any tournament since Olympics and managed to reach SF (albeit with evidently low stamina).
@ ikt they got automatic qualification for this event ..but they got their ranking freezed post Olympics and probably they r gonna play together …jia yi fan isn’t having a good run with other partners …lets see what’s up in 2025
They defeated Chen/Jia, finally. After several defeats, including that 20-15 tragedy. Now they can sleep soundly, no longer wondering
