Was an 0311, Marine Infantry Rifleman for 11 years, multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, brother, gave me goosebumps. I graduated early, tuned down a baseball scholarship to go serve. Been home now for almost 10 years and still don't know exactly how to feel about it all. I am finding peace with most of it, but some nights, some nights things come back
It's the sand for me. That's the part that haunts my dreams. Isn't the firefights or the SAW screaming in my face, it isn't the cries for help or the screams of a father holding the body of his only son. It isn't my blood soaked cams or the sight of a humvee that used to hold my best friends hit an IED, isn't even the flames that swallowed their corpses whole. It's the sand, that infamous afghan dirt, that haunts me. Some nights I feel it in my lungs, choking the life and soul out of me. Sometimes it's in my head, I feel it in my brain's crevices when I hear a backfiring car or any kind of loud noise and duck for cover, or when i see an empty trash bag or a rock on the side of the road and my heart instantly punches through my chest because it's been 4 years but I still have those moments where I think it's an IED. Some nights I feel my blanket is made of sand and it's heavy, it's bringing me down to hell. Hope you're hanging in there, brother. Alpha 2 out
Current 11 bang. 18 1/2 years in. Great song gentlemen. I wouldn't choose anything else but there's nights it's tough. Thankful I have an amazing woman to help me. Bravo guys
This song came up on my playlist at work. Loved it immediately. Not so much other songs, this song has a very different tune than the rest. Make more like this one.👍🏼
I'm not in the military but as a first responder, I can relate to some of this song. We're taught to try to do everything we can to save a life, but when we see the absolute worst, no one can train us how to feel about it. I've been going through a lot the past year, almost two years now,, and your music has helped me to cope with some of things I seen. Thank you.
