  • Rush - Far Cry (From "Snakes and Arrows")
Filmed in Rotterdam on their 2007 tour in support of the Snakes And Arrows album, this DVD captures Rush at their very best in front of a fervent Dutch audience. Rush are one of the most successful rock acts of all time with worldwide album sales estimated in excess of 40 million units and with a line-up unchanged since 1974. Snakes And Arrows was the bands first new album of original material for five years and was a both critically acclaimed and commercially successful going to No.3 in both the USA and Canada and to No.13 in the UK. The tour in support of the album traversed the globe and finally drew to a close in August 2008. Now this DVD provides a permanent reminder of the stunning stageshow that was Snakes And Arrows Live.
    Pariah dogs and wandering madmen
Barking at strangers and speaking in tongues
The ebb and flow of tidal fortune
Electrical changes are charging up the dawn
It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing
One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on, I can get back on
One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rolling over me
I can get back on, I can get back on
Whirlwind life of faith and betrayal
Rise in anger, fall back and repeat
Slow degrees on the dark horizon
Full moon rising lays ever at your feet
It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing
One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on, I can get back on
One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rolling over me
I can get back on, I can get back on
It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
You can almost see the circle growing
You can almost feel the planets glowing
One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on, I can get back on
One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rolling over me
I can get back on, I can get back on
One day I fly through a crack in the sky
And the next it's falling in on me
I can get back on, I can get back on
I can get back on, I can get back on

The thing that really gets me with this song is Geddy's voice. Back in the early days, his voice was a bit too much. Then over here, his voice is one of the greatest in rock. His tone is exquisite, and his skill is phenomenal.
And this is before I even mention how incredible each musician sounds on his own, let alone what they sound like as a group.

How Rush have not grown old gracefully is beyond me, (like pretty much everything they have done is beyond me). For a band to consist of so much talent, be successful doing totally their own style of music, have lyrical integrity, and STILL be so on top of their game after over thirty years is something I doubt will ever re-occur.
Geddy's voice still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. So much passion.
How anyone can deny Rush as one of the greatest acts in rock is also beyond me.

This is one of RUSH's heaviest fucking riffs. Structurally, the intro bevy of hits ... then when Alex lays down that Satriani-esque floating line ... it's just a pummeling, driving assault of power. Funny that I used to find Geddy's voice thin and weak to my taste ... now I find it has an intrinsic power to it that is just a glory to hear. Power trio indeed. Great visuals for this song too.

I have always thought the same thing - I love Rush, but this song is probably my favorite. They bring it *SO* fucking hard in this song. I always thought that it was a great demonstration of how well Geddy can create incredible melodies and really lead a song with the bass, and of course, Neil absolutely murders it on the drums. Awesome song.

'Snakes and Arrows' (2007) was the first STUDIO album of NEW SONGS after 'Vapor Trails' (2002), which had a VERY different sound for Rush and took me a bit to fully absorb. Since 1982 I have bought EVERY album by Rush, even without hearing it first (It's RUSH!!), so I hadn't heard this before I got the C.D. The second I heard 'Far Cry' I LOVED it! Not since 'Subdivisions' had a new Rush song blown me away that fast! Most take a couple of listenings to get. Not 'Far Cry', it grabbed me and didn't let go!!

Three of the best musicians around for the last 40 years.
    "Pariah dogs and wandering madmen
barking at strangers and speaking in tongues"
The world needs much more of this musical combination of clarity and truth in today's condition of murky water.

I remember choosing this song for a music project in school. My teacher tried to get me to change it because he didn’t think anyone would like Geddy’s voice. What an amazing band. I wish I got to see them.

My favorite Rush song. Neil might reunite with his daughter in the afterlife. It makes as much sense as how we are here now.

For me personally, Snakes and Arrows was one of my top 3 RUSH tours. There was just something about this tour that just rocked. My other 2 were Vapor Trails and Clockwork Angels....respectively. 😁

Actually the drummer Neil Peart, one morning ,,shortly after his daughter had left for University, in Toronto, Neil heard a knock on his door, in Morin Heights, it was the Quebec Provincial police. They confirmed that his daughter had just been killed in a car accident. Then 6 months later, his wife died of cancer. So, yeah, he did losing something.......
