Excellent discussion. Found it a curious display of psychology so many people missed rule number one in Aaron's video.

I’m still learning about this myself but lake altitude relative to sea level and the saturation level of gases in the water (especially nitrogen) will determine some lake to lake differences in barotrauma.

This was an incredible podcast. My parents bought a cabin nearly 20 years ago that I've fished just about every other weekend for that duration of time. The conservation talk was just incredible. When we first moved into our cabin we found an odd spot in a channel that went from 5 feet to about a 13-16 foot drop. What we found was loads upon loads of crappies. We would sneak back to this spot and just have a blast. Well word got out around the lake association of this spot and within 5 years that spot was pressured to the point that it was just fished out entirely. We made sure from then on that any success we had on the other connective lakes that we tried to keep it a secret as long as possible. Great podcast really got me thinking about fishery conservation in my own fisheries. Also I went and watched Aaron's videos about barotrauma and the such. Incredible videos!

Since there was a lot of chat around it, here's what the MN regs say on page 32 (not saying anyone said anything wrong, just sharing info):
"Culling is allowed [on most lakes..] UNTILL you reach your daily limit. Once you reach your daily or possession limit, you may keep fishing, but all fish of that species must be immediately released and no culling is allowed. If fishing is good you may want to stay below your limit to accommodate keeping a deeply hooked, legal sized fish".

Get a sample of fish, tag them, then see how many can be caught later. Or use a new tag that can be seen with FFS to track fish. Options are available.

Can you guys please talk about the difference in lakes from farm lakes to natural to muddy to clear. And how crappie relate to each and maybe what some differences or patterns you have picked up over the years? For example. (Lake Minnetonka ice crappies.) Or a smaller metro lake. To northwest Minnesota over to Northern Wisconsin small lakes ?

i think sobi missed the water temperature at the top being bad for muskies and if you are catching them they come to the surface and that temperature. so it wouldnt matter if the water below is cooler. just an observation.

I think we have seen it a lot in recent years, poor scientific method and an assumption that the results are correct. Its been true for a lot of government studies in multiple sectors. Good on Aaron for calling it out.

Sooo going of the topic from barotrauma as far as fishing deep or not. I was in a basin this weekend fishing crappies in 15-40ft of water there was thousands of them. But they were in 37fow but they were suspended 15 ft up and they did not have any barotrauma at all because they were so suspended.

I'm not a tournament guy but I know it's a big part of community revenue and you talk about new rules out of the blue in my area they just implemented no walleye over 18 so that in my mind ends tournament fishing forsure here or certainly takes any fun out idk

Why fook around with ducer, forward works great open water and on ice for seeing your bait under ducer and out infront of you. I find i get more information in foreward and not messing around with ducer gives me more time to fish.

    • @NA-sq1qs

Interesting if a bass races up to hit a top water on its own and gets trama I never thought of it maby that's something to consider if instinct tells it it's ok to do it to its self that's another barrel of monkees on this never ending trauma drama just sayin

At the risk of being hated, seems a limit on catch and release fishing would limit a lot of issues... Seems a person catch and releasing 100 fish a day(extreme) does more damage than a person taking an any size (") caught full limit.

Catch and release is what ruined mille lacs. Dump truck loads of dead walleyes on the shoreline mid summer.

Most good anglers that can catch a substantial amount of fish probably have decent fish handling skills. A quick course on fish handling and conservation for all the weekend warriors before they buy a license would have a way bigger impact, at least in my area.
