  • In archaic and classical times, Lycia was ruled by rivaling local chieftains, commonly called dynasts. Many of them issued silver coins in their own names, which offer us a unique insight into the political topography and history of this region on the western edge of the Achaemenid Empire. Helmut Lotz (University of Vienna and 2024 Chairman’s Fellowship recipient) will explore the chronology of these coins based on hoard finds and his die study in progress.
