100% thought for weeks (months)? of knowing Alex was suddenly off the show that the writers could NEVER in a million years write it that he left her, for this EXACT reason. And then instead the writers try to justify it as if a death would be too hard for them all to handle? They killed off DeLuca not that long after this, and did a whole Meredith might die story for most of an entire season. Alex choosing to leave her without even a goodbye, super abandonment style, when he was well aware of her super deep rooted abandonment trauma... It's like physically painful that the writers would act like this was "less painful" than if he'd suddenly died off screen.
