I think the weirdest thing Cosmonaut said in his video was that "Character arcs simply do not exist in this series"
Like, I understand not finding the character arcs interesting, but saying they don't exist is silly lol.

Hey, D'Arby is my favourite "fight", too! Glad to see another man of culture.
I would actually go further and call Star Dust Crusader either my favourite or second favourite part. Not because of necessarily being the most well written, but because I enjoy the globe-trotting adventure aspect, and not the way Battle Tendency did it, I mean that it had this faraway goal that was defined at the beginning and the chartacters worked to get to. It's good that not every part is like this, and I really appreciated the change of pace that was DiU, but the only pther part that could replicate SC's journey-feel for me was, well, you already know exactly which one it was. So for me SC is definitely top 2.

What I love about Jotaro is that he doesn’t need much development and any done is much more hidden. Any development are the seen in the small details rather than “THROUGHOUT THE DAYS, I’VE GROWN FOND OF MY OLD MAN. WHAT DID HE USED TO SAY?”.
Part 3, as it’s purpose was to be an adventure, as in spending time with the characters, learning more. Kakyoin and Polnareef develop because it’s part of their character as we know it. Every reason they both act the way they do to the lads and villains is because of their past and purpose.
Jotaro needs less development as he himself like Jonathon has already grown, and that’s fine as it just means we get to spend more time with the crusaders as they are at basically their prime.

14:35 Since you complained about the weird choice of music plays in the OVA version, and I'm a avid fan of the OVA, I'm gonna defend it:
    It may sound weird just using that single clip out of context but that music piece plays through the whole Jotaro vs Darby gamble;
The more the poker game progress as those two outwitting each other and finally end with Jotaro pressuring Darby, the music start getting more intense, climaxing at Darby having mental breakdown, the soundtrack plays the most intense and dramatic. The whole track had written specially for this fight.
While the anime use somewhat of situational soundtracks that can be use in other scenes outside of the Darby fight, as long the script demands.
Plus, Macro D'Ambroiso's music is cool as hell given the 90s vibe, heck, the OVA's OST is severely underappreciated.
And I'm gonna say it: OVA version of Darby fight is way better than anime in term of atmosphere.

While I agree with just about everything else you said, I really gotta disagree with your take on how its older and should be viewed differently cause of that. Good writing is good writing, and since we as a civilization have found modern footing and kept it for the last many years basically all stories that were written at least within the last 50 years shouldn't be seen any differently. At some point we as a people hit a point where any writing going forward would be of a similar quality to everything else, and since society is so well established the stories themselves won't age or look worse with age anymore. A good story is a good story, and no amount of years would end up taking away from that anymore

I might be late to the party, but here are my thoughts. I never really got the fight the first time I saw it, but then I realized how smart this was. With Jotaro constantly bluffing, going as far as to bet the souls of himself, Kakyoin, Avdol and even his own mom, older D'Arby was freaking out. We can assume that he already saw The World in action, because Jotaro effortlessly getting himself a drink and lighting a cigarette in the blink of an eye is disturbingly similar to The World's ability to stop time in his eyes-he's pretty much fighting against another The World. So he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either fess up to the Crusaders and die by DIO, or succumb to the hands of Jotaro and his Stand, The World: Grape Flavor. And of course, he takes the easy way out and just dies right there.
I hated Jotaro in this part until the Lovers arc, the fight with N'Doul, and this episode. He gained my respect afterwards after that.

I think that the "actually, his hand was reeeeeally bad" was extremely predictable, but the rest of the fight was pretty good
Mostly, it just felt kinda "meh" to me because of the context in wich I watched part 3
Before starting part 3, I saw that there were two part 3s (in crunchyroll. yeah, I didn't watch much anime before Jojo), one was named just "stardust crusaders" and the other "SC: egypt arc", and I imagined it was like "wow, there's normal SC where Jotaro goes fight DIO, and then SC: egypt where the group is in a completely different adventure (like those bad continuations) and I expected it to be bad like... *cough cough* SAO *cough* so I was ready to skip it if it was bad, so I stopped thinking about it and started watching part 3
They were getting close to egypt, Avdol was back and all I thought was "they're gonna get to egypt, find DIO real quick, defeat him in an epic battle and call it the day"
Final episode of normal SC and they weren't even IN egypt yet and I thought "wait... I didn't watch 30 episodes of battles that are for the most part easily forgettable (do you remember what was dark blue moon's attack? Like, how could he make those attacks, cuz me neither) to get another 30 episodes of the same? (I didn't know the egypt arc actually had memorable fights, I even looked to see if there was any unmemorable fights (according to my phone, unmemorable is an existing word) and only saw fights that were actually good and more memorable than whatever dark blue moon did)
So yeah, my experience with the D'Arby brothers fights wasn't the best because of how long this part is, wich is a reason why I prefer part 1 and 6 (individually) over 3

    • @amars-likehuman6306
      @amars-likehuman6306 3 роки тому

Before any mad kid says anything, part 1 is good, it's just not better then the others, wich doesn't make it bad or not fun to watch, and part 6 is even better (in part because it has stands), having a good story (I'll try not to give much spoilers), the whole thing of "White Snake" and "Snail rainbow guy" story is pretty interesting, having literally no one to blame the characters for becoming evil, different from Dio, for example, who had his father turning him into a bhole by raising him in a toxic environment. and the ending, it's just amazing
From now on, there's only stuff that only makes sense with the context of the part, so it isn't spoiler 24/7 but it doesn't make sense if you didn't read it, ok?
Now taking about the bad stuff, yes, I'm aware about Joline, and I agree, she's a pretty bad written character, she cared about stuff, but at the same time she didn't care about anything nor anyone, and the way she's almost completely forgotten in her own part is just... I was trying to use any word that wasn't "bizarre" to describe it, but it's really just bizarre
Man, after MiH appears, all she does is say "hey Emporio, could you, like, run away in that dolphin, WS is giving us a really hard time" and vanishes
BUT, I will try defending the last fight by saying that MiH was NOT the whole battle, there was C-moon, a fight where Joline was completely present
MiH was just the end of the battle between Joline and WS, it's just like gang vs Diavolo, Giorno vs Diavolo wasn't where the battle started, it was the part of the battle where it ended, there's was more to this fight, we could say it started somewhere between Polnareff vs Diavolo and gang vs silver chariot, then it ended at GER vs Diavolo, and that happens in other parts, like "Kakyoin vs DIO" and "Hayato vs Kira"
Here it works at the same logic, it starts at Joline vs C-moon and goes to Kid/snail rainbow guy vs WS, MiH is the part where Joline is done fighting with the other heroes
So that's it, part 6 ending is good and was fun to read :D
I like thinking about this stuff, I really like Jojo

My favorite fight is Buccellati vs king Crimson, because they both lose and they both win. Bucellati wins in the sense that he saves Trish and tells everyone how King Crimson works, but loses in the sense that he dies in the process. Diavolo wins in the sense that he killed Buccellati, but loses to his own cowardice when he's unable to bring himself to reveal his face despite the fact he could've killed them all in that moment.

The episode was also a big plot twist because up until then Bruno's gang had risked their lives to deliver Trish to her father but everything changed in a single moment when Bruno realised that his only task was to keep Trish alive so that the Boss could kill her himself . To Bruno , there was nothing more sacred than family and that's why he protected Trish , the daughter of the same man who destroyed Bruno's own family , so that at least she could live happily . But after realising how easily Diavolo was planning to get rid of his own daughter , something inside him snapped . Years of pent up frustration of being unable to stop the drug trade because he had to protect his father , blew up and caused Bruno to act rashly which led to his death . But he was brought back to life by Giorno , the boy who gave him courage to stand up against the boss and the corruption in the mafia . Bruno had already accepted his fate in his battle with King Crimson and saw the rest of his life as just a second chance given to him to help the boy , Giorno , achieve his dream . So when he saw a chance during the Battle for the Arrow , he repaid his debt by giving up his life and ascended to heaven , gently floating through the air , guided by the Golden Wind . This fight was the biggest character developing moment for Bruno

I’ll admit, while the D’Arby arc isn’t my favorite fight to come from SDC (that’d be Iggy and Polnareff vs. Vanilla Ice), it’s still an amazing fight due to being a very atypical shounen fight by not even having any fistfighting or brawling. Instead, it’s just a battle of wits in order to see which character can outsmart the other, and truly shows just how smart and badass Jotaro can truly be at times.
Even if part 3 has its issues, it’s arcs like this (along with the aforementioned Vanilla Ice fight, the fight with N’Doul and Geb, and especially the finale, Dio’s World) that further cement why it’s my favorite Jojo part (at least if we’re only counting the animated parts. If we venture into the manga, it’d of course be part 7, if my pfp didn’t already give that away.)

OH HECK YES. That episode is such a stand-out, even among Jojo’s fights. It perfectly conveys what makes these fights good in that yes, not a single punch is thrown. It’s all about mind games. Not to mention, the fight also gets to show off how each character involved thinks, as well as how much of a freaking cool guy Jotaro is. It also builds up D’Arby really well, making him seem so intimidating while, again, he poses no _physical_ threat to our main characters. He would definitely lose in a straight-up brawl, but because he catches Polnareff off guard he’s able to shift the battle into one more in his favor.

I feel pretty alone on this earth when I say I hate Risotto vs Doppio.
It seems like such a cool fight at first, but then you think about it for 5 seconds and realize how contrived it is that Risotto did not insta-kill Doppio the moment the fight started.
Fixing the fight in my mind would require laying more restrictions on how Metallica works, because as it is, Risotto could just form a spike in Doppio's brain and be done with it.
Or in his heart. No reason is given why he can't do this, so he only loses because he's too much of an idiot to use his ability to its fullest.
It's not a well written fight at all. Metallica was so powerful that the only way Araki could make the fight work was to have Risotto just not use it intelligently.

My favorite in the series was always True Man’s World (reason why I have Ringo as my pfp) simply due to that mix of action and tactics involved, and how much of an impact it had on the Steel Ball Run Duo. Some great character development, a damn good antagonist, and beautiful philosophy on the nature of life.
And yeah, Cosmo’s video gave me a headache like no tomorrow. JoJo isn’t perfect, yeah (granted, most complaints people have are explained in-universe), but his criticisms were disingenuous and flat out incorrect at times. You can’t just fall back on, “It’s just my/his opinion” when the opinion has very inaccurate information and poor generalizations. Like seriously, if you just watch the show, you’d know that not everyone character in JoJo is the “cowardly badass” (and the fact he used Polnareff and Narancia there pissed me off; both are some of the bravest dudes in JoJo despite being goofballs!) or “stoic badass” archetype ; that there are character arcs; that the deaths aren’t for “shock value” when there is in-universe reasons for them happening that make sense. Criticize the show for facts, not false information.
Great video, Kamen! Jotaro Hate is real dumb, especially when the whole point of this journey is that he’s growing more attached to the group, that he’s very emotional despite his stoic demeanor, and that he almost does screw himself over multiple times due to his anger (like how he was straight up going to ram his fist through Steely Dan “so fast that the Stand won’t activate”; or during the DIO fight; or him being an ass just to everyone).
