I put a tiny bit of water on the cups before attaching them and I have noticed that it lasts a lot longer.

Tried this with a suction cup for a camera mount. It works the first time, but they last less each time you do this.
The reason why suction cups fail is because the rubber (or plastic) they are made of gets stiff (usually UV rays and plastic don't get along too well). Boiling them makes the rubber soft again.

3rd party attachment systems with adjustable suction
Like a benchmount type thing,
something with a twist or snap on thingy something that goes on flat and becomes a suction cup because you did something to it, intended by the design of the thingy

Easier: Replace them with 3M's industrial grade hook and loop fastener. It is the "better than Velcro" that comes with some toll passes. Yes, you need to put a strip on the windshield too, but both sides are the same.

Technically speaking Velcro is still a hook and loop touch fastner and they have improved over time, but you are 100% accurate that 3M makes far better hook and loop fastners than even the original name-brand company, Velcro. Sad to see 3M eating shit now days

Just tried this on the suction cup on the sponge holder for the kitchen sink. BTW, the 'lick the suction cup' was no longer working. Your tip worked great. We will see how long it lasts before reapplying the tip.

My R7 came with two mounts, one cheap one like shown here but also a really nice one like you describe. I can't figure out why anyone would use the cheap, crappy mount. People are dumb.
