I actually freaked out when he said te quiero (we're on LDR, and we'll see each other after flight restrictions to foreigners are lifted). I told him I'm Asian, and we don't show affection. Fast forward he just said te amo, to me. And I was like, oh, this is really it... But I didn't know it is this deep!

Hello Gab! Esa es una muy buena pregunta. No creo que hay una gran diferencia entre países con los significados de 'te amo' o 'te quiero'. Por lo regular 'te amo' siempre será una manera más intensa de decir 'I love you'.
