I look at potatoes differently there is alot involved when it comes to planting and harvesting. I am so glad that you are showing the process thats involved so that we can have potatoes 🥔 wow what a good video. Thanks looking forward for the planting.
Well that’s why I started the UA-cam channel was to help people understand what goes into making food. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the comment.
Really neat and quite complex equipment. I grew up on the farm and we had converted horse drawn equipment. Someone had too drive the tractor and someone had to ride the equipment being pulled such as a mower or planter etc. This new equipment is amazing to watch. Thanks for the overview and I look forward to seeing these pieces of equipment in action.
That would be quite a process planting with horses I can’t even imagine. I know when my grandpa started the farm they had horses to pull harrows. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment.
Yeah best reality Channel on what really goes on Lots of videos of all processes.. I got a kick outta the vise grips on nut trick Just tight enough can't tighten by hand and Lotta turns by wrench but vise grips brilliant til snugged up.. 👍
Been 20+ years since been working on potato farm Just got back into it Your videos are amazing the detail and explanations are excellent Farm I'm on just got new lw 608 . We have hillers on back as well Rained out few days here now ..
Really enjoyed this video. Here in the southeast there’s mostly cotton, peanuts, and a lot of vegetables grown near me in South Georgia. There’s some corn and other grains grown also, but not too much.
Well, I’m glad you liked it. I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen peanuts or cotton harvested so that would be interesting for me to see.
@RockyMountainFarmer you're welcome and I subscribed quite a while ago. Looking forward to seeing a full year of how your family farms. I found your channel in the fall of last year. Keep up the great videos!
In another video, after harvest I believe, you were hauling equipment home including porta potties. Do you take porta potties to the field for planting?
Good informative video but man you brought back a lot of bad memories. Planting became enjoyable again when we went Spudnik. Ground roll is still a thing btw.
@@RockyMountainFarmer how did Lockwood solve the ground roll/seed bounce? I’ve been involved in planter speed trials for the last ten years. Any of them can pick the seed up with great accuracy at speed. But all of them start having seed spacing issues above 4 mph. Only thing that I’ve seen mitigate that is Allen equipments firming wheel attachment.
I know on the new one they moved the closing disks closer to where the seed drops. There is probably a little seed roll but with enough checking you can get a good average.
@@RockyMountainFarmer just go Spudnik you’ll never look back haha. We average 300-350 acres a day with three of them so you don’t need five. You can plant all day at 12-1400 rpm instead of listening to the engine scream all day trying your maintain fan speed.

I'm so impressed by your operation! The whole potato planting and harvest is so interesting. Thank you for sharing!

@RockyMountainFarmer also, I grew up on a farm in Delaware. We did corn, wheat and soybeans. Much different back then in the 70s and 80s. Lol
Agricultural machinery is a faithful companion of farmers,👍👍👍👍👍👍
Without it, a lot of people would starve
Those are awesome tractors!
I think so too!
What is the fertilizer analysis of that liquid fertilizer you use? And how much per spud
I’m not sure what the breakdown is but we put down 100 gallons per fill of the planter
In another video, after harvest I believe, you were hauling equipment home including porta potties. Do you take porta potties to the field for planting?
We don’t for planting but there is usually a truck or an Atv for them to drive back in.
saludos desde los mochis sinaloa aqui asemos sembradoras de papas tipo lockwood aqui se llaman blanchet
Interesting I didn’t know that
With those cups. Could you hook up an air line so once you finish rinsing. Just push a bunch of air through the system to dry it out. Just curious?
Yeah we thought that we could do it while driving between fields so there isn’t any seed to make it dirty again but we didn’t try it out
Are they all Table stock or chipping Tators?
These will all be going into process to make potato flakes that will then get turned into things like mashed potatoes, and Pringles
Have you guys ever tried Strike 85 or anything in that family?
I don’t think so
What depth?
We try to put the seed at 6 inches
In this video at 5:25 you pronounce um and my brother say you pronounce arham😂
Haha that’s great
How come you never show your dairy farm I have never seen your video yet of the dairy farm milking and things
Because it’s not our dairy, it’s my uncles dairy, and the only thing we do with the dairy is haul manure and grow hay
That dammer diker is also great for destroying car front ends!
Yeah I’ve experienced that first hand
Good informative video but man you brought back a lot of bad memories. Planting became enjoyable again when we went Spudnik.

Spudnik does make a good planter but we would have to buy 5 to replace our 3 because you can’t go as fast.
