Love this, you are so relaxing to listen to. I am a mom of 8 and I feel very overwhelmed by visual clutter, I have taken down decorative items all around my home because I realized none of these items are adding any value to me or are used daily for a purpose. I have decreased my clothes to around 50 items for all 4 seasons. Which works out to be around 12 items a season and I'm enjoying this amount.❤❤
I understand. I had 3 kids in 3 years & no family to help. Hindsight is 20/20. I look back now & I just wish I had been content in believing that there is a season for everything & we can't do it all, all at once. Oh, to go back & do it again! I would throw my hair in a ponytail, put on 1 of 7 t-shirts (all white😆) & a pair of jeans and enjoy my kiddos. I'd forgo the indoor plants, the fancy meals (what's wrong with a cheese sandwich & cut up veggies 7 days a week for lunch?), the annual membership to the fancy, overstimulating kid park. Mostly, I'd "declutter" the mom guilt & perfection. Now, my kids are grown and slowly moving out into the world. Time for me has returned and, it turns out, it's not too late for plants and other hobbies. Get rid of what doesn't serve you in this season. Then be content with what's right infront of you....those beautiful kiddos.♥️🇨🇦
@@PenniestoDollars so much harder for moms of littles today. We didn't have even 10% of the "comparison noise" from social media that they have. So hard.😞 If I was a young mom today, I think social media would be the first thing I'd need to declutter.
I agree about feeling bigger when wearing bigger clothes. In my weightloss journey I have lost 19 lbs so far. And things that are too big on me are going!
My home is not "cluttered" so I like to use the term de-owning. Overall, my goal is to have closets and cabinets around 50% full. Then I am ready to downsize to a smaller space. I don't have enough clothes for 7-10 days to discard all that doesn't fit or look good, so I will need to buy & replace. I am donating unrealistic sizes for where I'm at now. Celebrating all of you who are having downsizing victories!
I really enjoy your videos. This one made me really stop and think about the amount of clothes I really wear. I will retire at the end of this year and I think the summer while I am on break from my job (I work at a school district) I am going to really go through and see what I will really need the last 5 months I work. Keep the videos coming. I will be watching!!
@@PenniestoDollars it could be a play on words but honestly I actually can breathe a sigh of relief after saying downsizing. Decluttering is like oh my goodness crazy, LOL
Bonita, I wanted to also share something with you that I hope will be an encouragement to you. There are a lot of UA-cam channels out there. A lot of people that are frugal, living minimalistic lives, decluttering homesteading what have you. I would have to say that yours is just a step above all the rest it really is. And let me explain. There was a couple that I watched for a short time it was a husband and wife I watched them maybe for a few months back last year. And though they were super nice people to listen to there was just something about their demeanor. And I finally kind of put it together, it turned out that the lady in her former profession was a school teacher. Just from how she presented herself and even her husband as well I always thought like they were kind of talking down to their audience. It was a very sugary sweet kind of video to watch or channel to watch I should say. You are not like that. You have things to teach us, you have things to share from your vast experience raising a very large family. And working full-time for decades. But you are walking the journey with us and you make no bones about that. And even though other people will make UA-cam channels and make videos, I don't know if they always realize how they're coming across to people. Though they have wisdom and information to share they can make people feel less than. And I just wanted to praise you and thank you for being the kind of UA-cam content creator who is Just A Step Above the Rest. You are a classy lady and you really help us by being on the journey with us and letting us know that you're right there with us.
@@nancysaffield5337 Thank you for your kind words and compliments. I am so thankful to have found such a wonderful group of people who accept me the way I am. That makes it easy for me to share with you!
I’m going through my entire wardrobe. If I don’t look good, feel good or it doesn’t fit properly then I’m getting rid of it. My parents left us with a large six bedroom house to go through when they died and I’m not going to do that to my children.
We don't care what we wear at home. Unfortunately, we don't have some really old ragged worn out clothes for dirty projects. Some of our stuff will get there but we're not there now. We are also getting rid of things that we've been saving for "just in case."
What is enough for me it would be no credit card debt and just a simple quiet life with enough food to pay bills and have enough to save for special events
I am moving from a three bedroom house, downsizing to a one bedroom apartment since I no longer need all of this room for just myself. I have been struggling to decide what furniture that I want to keep and what will actually fit into my new apartment. The other dilemma that I have is what possessions or decorations do I want to take with me and what will actually fit into my new living space. I happened to come upon one of your videos in an email from Simplify, and your video helped me to realize that I absolutely did not want to live in an overly cluttered smaller living space. I started to think about what would work in my new apartment and what would make my new apartment look fresh, well decorated, and more modern. That made it much easier to make better choices of the items to keep and the items to donate or give away. I went on your You Tube channel and immediately subscribed so that I could get more wonderful insights from your videos that you have posted. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and the things that you have learned from your own experiences so that we can benefit as well! ❤️😊👍❤️
Congratulations on losing weight and being more active! Do you find exercise makes you feel better? I have an autoimmune disease and am not active anymore. I used to Love to run. I've not run since 2016 and I miss the exhilaration and positive endorphins of having completed a run.
I feel stronger and I do what my energy and pain level allow. Sometimes I overdo it because I don’t think I’ve overdone it and then later I pay for it. But I love being active and doing things so that way it is just naturally coming off.
This resonates with me on so many levels! At the moment, along with deep cleaning and decluttering, I am doing what I call "shopping in my own home" to meet whatever need that arises. I've been thrifting for years so that I could accomplish what I want to do in retirement, and I finally have time to "reinvent" myself. I find great satisfaction and, yes, joy in accomplishing what I want to do in my environment with items I already own. Also, my husband tells me that asking your subscribers to both comment and forward your videos (which I already do) to those who might be interested will improve your metrics. (You probably already know this, but I didn't)

@amandazplace5663 agreed. We were one of the last ones around here to get Internet and I was forced to do that just so they could do schoolwork.
I have almost bought things recently. And I talked myself out of them, I don't need them. I am proud of myself and proud of you!!

You have to be careful not to downsize to many items that your husband might still like.
I make it a habit to only downsize my stuff, and let him downsize his own.
