In 2021, Maria Ioudenitch won the International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition. Her debut album, Songbird, recorded with pianist Kenny Broberg, presents a melodic collection of violin pieces which each possess a special connection to song.

I am an old retired violist / violinist living in California. I searched all my life, everywhere, for my soulmate and best dearest friend - Dmitry (Dima) Donetskiy - and finally found him in Smolensk, Russia. For years we emailed each every day and night without fail. He was wanting so much to come to me and to live free! Then one day he was sitting in a park waiting for a friend to meet him for lunch. A protest riot came along, followed by the police. With their batons they beat him, wounded him severely. He managed to be taken to a hospital. There I think he died! I have tried in vain to find out anything, contacted priests, hospitals, politicians and even Putin's office. No one will tell me if he is dead and where he is buried. Everyday I try to play my viola and compose, thinking of him. My only prayer now is that I may die and our souls united. This song expresses the final breathe within me. I pray every evening to sleep forever next to my love and sing in the light of the eternal morning with him and GOD.

Wonderful and pre-ordered the CD, but in this presentation the piano is overpowering the violin. (Probably UA-cam). Maria: My CD came on 5/26 and it is wonderful and the piano and violin are in balance. It is superb playing and I hope that you and Kenny keep making more music together.
