Interesting! Game development can be difficult as times, so I hope it's been going well! Actually been trying to work on one of my own, so from developer to developer, I wish you guys the best of luck.
Edit: Already knew that you were in the game jam for GMTK, which I found cool. So a full blown game is even cooler. Actually been planning to enter the next game jam. GMTK is pretty cool.
Edit 2: Saw the Kickstarter page! The name "Meatbag" studios is funny to me, since that was one of my possible joke ideas if I got no other ideas since my username I go by on a lot of things ends in "meatsuit", but I had contemplated "meatbag" instead at some point.

Just from the very short bit of footage shown in the trailer, I feel like enemies in your game may have a bit too much health. Of course that's a pretty subjective take AND this is only the first very short bit of footage that we've had AND it's only a small concern, but the game looks like it has insane potential and I want it to be the best experience possible, and I think a bit of tinkering with hp or damage values could make it just that tiny bit better, even if it already looks great
Thanks for the feedback. Enemy hp is definitely not final. Not all the enemies blow up into bits correctly so we just set their health high when recording lol

I looks really nice, I'm looking forward to it. However sound effects make a big impact on how the game feels and the current ones you showed in the trailer just don't cut it. Mainly the gun sounds. I hope they will get improved over time. When I'm slashing bugs in Hollow Knight, each slash feels so good, mostly because of the sound effects they used and also because of the particles those slashes produce. But other than that, it's looking really promising, so keep up the good work!

I 100% agree, and also think that the visual feedback for things like damaging an enemy, taking a hit, etc. need a bit of a boost. Great visual feedback really makes a game pop out of the screen

I am absolutely enthralled with how the lighting works and how the lasers swallow the background lighting. Though I feel the team and you should both pump up the speed of some of the enemies, and make the very big lasers more "weighty" when shot, it'd make the experience of facing an enemy that shoots out huge beams of red light all the more captivating.
Can't wait to play it!

This looks pretty good and super smooth for someone only getting into game development, I can imagine by the time you and your team are confident you'd be tackling a major metroidvania-like project filled with lore. But that's probably far in the future, for now this current game's such an amazing step 1. Really cool stuff!

damn the pixel art for this game looks BEAUTIFUL! I'm definitely looking forward to see how it turns out
This actually looks really interesting. The art style is something I haven't seen often, but has a nice soft tone, which is good for the eyes in this style of game imo. Enemies are distinct from their surroundings and the background fits the foreground really well. Some sprites do stand out in being high or low definition and distracts the eyes, but probably will be improved later. The world is also simplistic in base, but more interesting in other areas and A lot could be built onto this idea.
The gameplay seems really interesting, but also sort of simple and slow, which could be improved as this is of course just a tiny showcase. There's a lot of megaman style influence from what I see, but with a very different feeling.
Only real issues in gameplay I can think of are the enemy difficulty shown being easy and the health of said enemies. This is a showcase so health is probably artificial and not related to actual gameplay and the difficulty couldn't possibly be polished this early, so those are not real criticisms. On top of all this, I have not played it yet, so I wouldn't know.
The sound design is obviously going to be simple, but in the showcase it doesn't sound obstructing or irritating, more like a notice of what's happening, which is best imo. Also the music is very fun and simple, not overly complex or dull. Very similar to megaman in that way, but has its own twist to it.
Overall very optimistic and with a good amount of time and work, this could be something really fun. Just don't rush things and I think it'll go well. Sorry to everyone who had to suffer reading through this, I know few care for long comments. This isn't a review as much as it's just my first thoughts and might be complete garbage.
It's great seeing you work hard to release your own game, full support from me, speaking from experience it's really not easy.

This seems very cool! The only thing that I have to criticise already are the sfx for shooting. They seem pretty uneventful, but everything else is very hype ^^

Some feedback based on the trailer, I noticed the dash gives invincibility frames, it'd be nice if those frames where reflected on the animation somehow, maybe make the character translucent, to give the impression he's phasing through the atacks, or makes his edges glow, like a meteorite entering the atmosphere, to give the impression the atacks are boucing off the character.
Since it is a roguelike, you could have an item that modifies the dash. Using my two previous suggestions, the phase dodge could play an "absortion" sound effect on successfull dodge and improve your next X attacks or heal you etc. The meteorite one could make a "bounce" sound effect on successfull dodge and reflect the projectiles back at the enemies.
Also, there's a lot of cool stuff you can do, but it's important to know when to stop adding stuff and start focusing on polishing what's there and delivering a full experience.

The gameplay and setting sound great but the art feels very sub-par; I know it’s early on but I’d highly consider bringing some more folks in for the pixelart - or generally Art direction really, it’s a bit all over the place with different pixel definition, shading styles and colors.
Just saying this because it’s early on enough that there’s time to course correct and, like it or not, a game’s look does impact its sales.
That said I’m still super excited to see where this goes and will def be picking up to support one of my fav content creators!

When I first watched this trailer when this video came out, I felt a bit underwhelmed. But watching it again and analyzing the smaller details, I just realized how genuinely incredible this looks. The movement looks nice and reactive, and I love the concept of leaving and returning to your mech suit for the advantages and disadvantages that having it on/off presents. I can't wait for this to come out man!
