I was hoping to see some practical troubleshooting on an actual sql query but it's just a check list of thing to watch for. Also the part of doing sorting paging in the application side does not make sense to me, if you do paging it's because you have large dataset and there is no way to do that on the application side without sending all the rows, I don't see how that could work better than doing it directly in the db.
