The gear loadout weighs more than I do! 😂 Learning all I can from you on mountaineering while I get my health back, and then I will slowly put it to use! Thanks for all you do!
I climbed Denali 2016, after I got out of Spec Ops. I was in tremendous shape but I wasn't the most skilled climber. I remember Napoleons famous comment all the way to the top I fear no man...Only weather. That is so true when trying to summit peaks. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks. Great stuff. Re skis, I tried out some (Altai) Hok skis this Winter. 140cm, bonded skin section, universal boot binding. Skishoeing vs snowshoeing. With the load in the sled, not on my back, they worked well.
Awesome!!! I just ordered your books Have you tried the Mountain Hardwear AMG 105 liter pack? Carries like its super light even though its not. My shovel and crampons and ice axe do not even mar it. Really padded hip belt and shoulder straps. I'm a fan of Merino undies as well. Love the idea of using a headband to protect your nose! I live in Alaska. I backpack all year around. Thank you for so much great info.
you are the most effervescently interesting mountaineer I've ever seen. I'd pretty much figured that in the first 10 minutes. But then you start dropping these bombs like that you climb solo and I was like "wow... is there anything this guy can't do". I'm sure you receive a lot of praise, so I'll say something short from the bottom of my heart: people like you are why I love backpacking and life in general. it's a heavy thing to write in a youtube comment, I know, but it's the truth and you should know. Wishing you the best!
Thank you very much, very useful information. A question: how do you suggest if you go alone, only hiking boots, skis or snowshoes? thank you, greetings from Mendoza, Argentina
Great stove ideas! THAT is a LOT of stuff! Holy cow!!!! You sound like you caught a cold. Dang! How do you find what you need in all that stuff? Gees. And when you live in Alaska year-round, you can't live anywhere else without wearing the eye mask all year long because you get used to the pure darkness, well, if you live in a remote community with no street lights. Haha - One more time, THAT is A LOT of stuff!!!
No sleeping bag cover or inner layer this time? When you pack them. Is it better to pack them individually or I can set them (sleeping bag with liner and cover and pack them inside a compression bag for a quick deployment? Thank you! And love your vids!
Great rapid fire video with a lot of helpful information for each piece of kit! One of the things it has me wondering, is how you manage crevasse risk traveling alone, do you find that difficult?
Hey Al, great video. I bought a western mountaineering sleeping bag based on your advice and absolutely love it! One question though: do you have any issues with the down staying compressed after you take it out of the sack? Mine was compressed for maybe 2 or 3 days during transit and lost a heap of its warmth as a result (it was an antelope bag). I know you can put it in the dryer to fix that but not sure how you manage on expeditions? Thanks
Hello Aaron first of all I want to thank you the knowledge you have shared probably saved my life a few times. Secondly I having spent alot of time outdoors and during that time I found that I always wanted a good chair. Well I had an idea to make a backpack frame/chair out of some light material. When the plans are done would you be interested?
That'd be cool to check out when you're done & ready to share. I used this as my seat, extra insulation for sitting, and expanded tent coverage. It's great for hiking, as it's so light. Therm-a-Rest Z Seat Cushion: amzn.to/3vRD1wf
Did you attempt to solo climb summit? We just had a friend summit with International Mountain Guides. Just curious as I know you had tried before and knew you were gonna go back. Good vid thanks.
After experiencing a serious spinal injury in 2012, I have resumed training for a Denali climb...yep, solo. Of all the crap you went through in this video I was interested in one thing and one thing only: your personal sled. As you recommended I went to your website to see your complete gear list so I could see which make/model you use. Guess what? You list every single item including Vaseline, but you don't say a word about your sled. Thumb down!
Glad to hear you're on your way to recovery! Thanks for pointing out the missing sled. I'm working on my Greenland expedition series playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLG18s0YH507CljLZSkn4X_fbodXXVUj8H.html It will include the sled. The sled is on my Greenland page: www.aaronlinsdau.com/greenland/ I've updated my solo Denali gear page for the Paris Expedition Sled: www.aaronlinsdau.com/solo-denali-gear-list/ Be safe climbing Denali solo!

Thanks for watching & for serving.
Can you do a video on how to fly with all the gear as well as trip planning, obtaining permits, etc? It would be much appreciated!

Sweet gear breakdown Aaron!!! You are the best channel on UA-cam for mountaineering advise IMO 😊 keep it up 👍
Appreciate that
I love the travel scale. I never knew they existed!
Travel safely!

Not yet but will definitely check it out. Looks huge - love it. Stay safe out there!
Thanks for the extensive gear breakdown. A lot of useful information for basic winter camping trips as well.
So true. Except for the climbing gear, the cross-over gear is exactly what I use for winter camping, too.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Stay warm and safe out there!
Just got 3 of your books, can’t wait to read “lost at windy corner” in Particular
Wonderful, thank you and enjoy the reading.
How exactly do you use the small foam pad? Do you put it under your head for sleeping, or the feet?
Thank you very much, very useful information. A question: how do you suggest if you go alone, only hiking boots, skis or snowshoes?
thank you, greetings from Mendoza, Argentina
I prefer skis nowadays.
Solo expedition Denali? Crazy man
Thanks Aaron I just ordered the booties you recommended
They're excellent, enjoy the warm feet!
What solar panels do you recommend? Some just seem so delicate.

No liner for these sorts of trips for me. I pack individually for things like that.
U r the man!🎉
Thanks for watching!
So all you gear, looks like ELK camp. Cozy bottle holder, must get 3 for thee, I really like your video's .
Thanks for watching!

Make sure your bag is as dry as possible before stuffing it. If it's moist, it'll stay compressed a lot longer.

Do you have an experience with the forty below bottle boots? They're more affordable than OR and have 1L and 1.5L sizes.
I've not used the 40 Below bottle boots. Everything else I've used from 40 Below is awesome, though.
Did you need to fill out a separate application to get a solo permit?
There's additional paperwork yes. Check with the NPS office for the latest.
I hike in the Adirondacks.. and my down sleeping bag is virtually useless after 2 days... do you have any suggestions.

What backpack is that?
Gregory. It's ~20 years old, so not sure of the model. It is a huge pack, so I don't have to worry about hanging things off it.
Which expedition you just returned from, since you post daily on UA-cam? Or is it this an old video?
Brand new video. I just returned from my May 2022 Denali climb. More videos to come.
are you available as a guide for denali in 6 months time
Thank you for the request. Only permitted guiding services are allowed in Denali NP.
