@@wilburfinnigan2142 I called john deere about that it bothered me to but they said that the filter is synthetic filters out better then a regular filter and they said the engines go through the same testing as the the regular oil change they will last just as long. That's what they told me
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Easy oil change is about $40.00 to replace and does not remove all the oil when changed. So you will still have old oil in the crank case. There is a conversion kit available, oil drain plug and a regular oil filter for $30.00. I will converting this fall. It is easy to do and there are videos available on UA-cam. I love my E130. It is a great machine.
Awesome review, thank you for this. I am a loyal and faithful JD employee at the TN factory where this lawn tractor is actually built. This tractor is a beast, and the quality and care that goes into building each one, far surpasses anything our competitors are building. Thank you again for your purchase and the review.
Hi Lynn , will the E130 Transmission strong enough for lawn rolling and pulling a small utility cart full of Wood , etc up a 30 deg 15 foot hill from my backyard to front yard . I live in Canada and JD's are expensive up here . I know JD's are a good product and I am hoping the transmissions are strong and will last for years
Hi Lynn , I was wondering if the E130's Transmission is strong enough for Lawn Rolling and using a small utility cart ( Rhino ) up a 30deg 15 foot hill from my back yard to front yard . Mostly my back yard has a slight angle but I am more concerned about hauling from back to front yards . I know JD has a good product and I am hoping the transmission will hold up for years if it is built strong enough for the workload that I want to use it for .
Just got mine today....Im loving it too. Works perfect on my acre property. Corners and handles excellent. The hydrostatic transmission is a dream...I used to almost hit things before. Now I can trim close to tree bases and edges. It really is a cadillac I feel like a kid with a new toy...lol
Great review. My craftsman is on its last leg. I got a price quote from my local john deer shop for the e130 + the bagger. The easy change oil filter has me so intrigued ...I hate changing oil on anything. I'm gonna purchase tomorrow morning ... thanks for the review.
Congratulations! Of course, they don't make machines like those old Craftsman mowers anymore. I'm happy to be backed by a name like Deere, however. If you think of it, come back and share your thoughts on it after the season. And yes, the easy oil change is exactly what it is billed. Literally takes 5 minutes, tops. You'll read a lot of complaints about it only changing -~70% of the oil. Don't be alarmed. You get a new filter each time, and it's not like you're changing the oil on a supercharged automobile engine. The oil change system is more than sufficient. Enjoy!
Great review! Been a JD employee 25.5 years (in IT). Only ever had a JD walk behind but looking at buying a 130 from fellow employee (with 20 hrs on it). Thanks for taking the time to do this review!
It was an honor. In my second season and this machine is running like a hog! I love it. I'm only cutting my grass once per week to let some weak spots heal. When I cut the grass is pretty thick. Some places I have to double-cut, but it keeps on trucking. No clumps anywhere. Still running it all stock.
The company must treat you guys pretty good... 25 years is dedication! I just recently added JD to my portfolio. Enjoy your 130...it takes the chore out of doing yard work!
@@darrylwatkins2335 Honestly, it's about like any other company to a new employee. But I was hired early enough that in addition to my 401K, I also will get a pension. In 2007 they gutted our healthcare. Last year I hurt my back and spent the max out of pocket of $7200. Ouch! Other than that it's fine. I plan to retire from here in 10 or 15 years if I don't get outsourced.
@@darrylwatkins2335 That's about what I will be doing. I'll mow once a week probably. I'm in Iowa so will only have to mow from April/May - Oct/Nov. Thanks again!
Thank you sir. Good rerview. Mine is on the way from Lowe's next week. I like the 30 second oil change as well. My time is worth something and according to a tech this oil change which leaves some oil in the machine does not lower the longevity of the engine because of the high quality synthetic oil and a better filter. Thanks again, Darryl
Just bought an E130 from Lowes today. Pretty confident this will be night and day compared to my 17hp Craftmans mower I've used for the last 8 years. I will be using this to mow 1.5 acre of rough terrain. Anxious to take delivery and test her out. Thanks for the vid.
@@darrylwatkins2335 It is not. Full of fruit trees, kinda like a small orchid. It so nice looking brand new but I know it will get some scratches from the nearby trees. Its been raining here in Cali so right now some of the grass is 3-4' tall. Hopefully this new mower will make me mow more often 😃
@@Solano.Serpents got it. I was hoping to be able to hear about the cruise control feature. My lot has too many obstacles to use it. You'll love the right turning radius in conjunction with the hydrostatic tranny. I like it better than zero-turn because it doesn't rip up my yard!
@@darrylwatkins2335 I do have some long straight aways so I'll let you know. I'm glad I'll be able mow backwards because I have some tight spots. Delivery tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.
I liked your review. Got me one last year put a couple accessories on. Last weekend i changed out the oil filter. I did the conversion kit, so i can drain out all the oil . Went with amber leds headlights and wheelies hub caps . Love my E130..
It took me about an hour . Went too the JD Dealer explained what i wanted ,they hooked me up. They give you the drain tube wich goes opposite sideof filter where drain plug is, you need too remove the big green filter and 1 big nut that holds that assembly on, take it off . Threaded tube goes in center of that , screw on the filter . Add 2 quarts oil , your ready to mow . I will try too make a video too show conversion and some accessories that i have added.
Very nice review man. I bought an E130 at the beginning of the season as well and love it. I agree with you in that the "30 second oil change" is very gimmicky. It only replaces 1/3 of the oil and if anyone who knows anything about small engines knows you need to replace all the oil when changing it. I've only got about 10 hours on mine so far but I think I'm going to go ahead and replace the oil soon. My information or hours screen in flashing SVC for some reason and I'm not sure what that means, hopefully it's just the oil change but other than that, I'm completely happy with it.
Lee Walker Thanks, Lee. Please return back and keep me posted on how all of your maintenance works out. I think this time around you should just be due for all of your greasing all of your fittings, correct? And yes, bring that the EZ oil change only changes about 1/3 of the oil, it might not be a bad idea to change it during the first service. Is yours hard to remove?
It's true, only 40% of the oil gets changed, but with the innovative design, all harmful sediments get trapped by the filter and are removed with the change. With the quality of the motors that Briggs makes for us, even with just 40% being changed, the motor will last. Trust me, I help build these mowers in TN, they are quality built to last.
I just bought the E140 because I wanted the 48” deck and it had the electric PTO engagement but that’s really the only difference that I noticed from the E130. Mine also has the 22 hp engine. I’ve only had mine for 4 days so I’m hoping to get many years out of it.
I have a L110 Automatic I got in 2004 and has 368 hours on it. It's been very reliable, easy to maintain and great to use. The only advice is store it in a shed or garage when you're not using it. The bodywork and paint are not UV resistant and the finish will get chalky and the whole thing will rust.
@@darrylwatkins2335 Yes sir I do. It has operated flawlessly so far. It starts up every time and does exactly what it is designed to do. Changing the oil is a snap with the spin on filter. Bagger is easy to install and MT's easily. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. I Hope this helps sir.
A good looking John Deere Lawn tractor. I have a John Deere E110 I purchased in May 2018, and it is a good lawn tractor, as I use much more than cutting grass. Darryl get your free owners hat from John Deere. When I purchased my lawn tractor at Lowes the salesman took down my Email address so I would get a free owners hat. But I never heard from or got the owners hat. My Wife called John Deere , told them I didnt get the hat. all they asked for was where, when I bought it and if I registered it with John Deere, they checked then asked my Wife if I wanted a Green or Pink John Deere Owners hat, it came in the mail a week later. So call John Deere.
Thanks for that I've had mine two weeks and. I hope it last as long as my last one. I got the L100 back in 2004 and it went out on me the first cutting this year so seeing this I know what you mean it's a good and powerful machine.I got my hat
Awesome man! I'll be honest, for modern technology, 15 years is a good while to last. They don't build things like the used to. I'm satisfied, so far. Mine fired right up this year, no start and no tender all winter. It just continues to amaze me. Happy mowing!
Darryl, thanks for the video, good review, lots of info. Just got my E130 last week. Used it for the first time on Sunday. Excellent machine, rides nice and makes a very clean cut. Love the tight turning radius and the idea that you can change your cut length 1/4 inch at a time, made it easier to dial in the height I was looking for. The John Deere is so easy to handle that I taught my wife how to use it in just minutes, she had never used a riding lawnmower. I purchased the 6.5 bagger at the same time and that was a breeze to connect and use. By the way the quick oil change system sold me on the John Deere over the Husqvarna. They didn't offer me a Hat though (lol).
Used three times with no prpblems thank goodness only average in aus conditions your deck will crack and spindles will strip with self tapping fixings three and half stars over five years heavy service
Thank you for this comprehensive review. This model caught my eye and this is by far the best vid to address the features. I will be getting mine this week.
Yeah Darryl looks like a really nice machine ....bought my first riding mower last Spring (Poulan Pro PP175G42)...great tractor also. These units make yard work actually enjoyable don"t they?...Say about that quick change oil system --do you think it would be retrofit enabled for the 17.5 Hp engine in my Poulan Pro?
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed. I made it for people in your position, or for those who can decide between machines. I think you'll be satisfied with your purchase. Here I am having owned it for several seasons, now, and it still fires up like the first day it was delivered! Happy mowing/plowing!
It is a beautiful machine. I like to know does the E130 work well around a lot of trees, shrubs, flowers, fallen tree branches on 32 acres? Not all of my land need mowing, only certain sections. Thanks for sharing.
I have trees, shrubbery, and flowers all over my lot and the E-130 navigates with grace. It has an 18" turning radius which is pretty tight for such a large machine. The HP will be great for your hills. Let me say, however, if you will have to navigate a lot of obstacles in your yard then a zero-turn mower might more suit your needs. The hydro-static transmission on the E-130 will make the job easier, as well.
I recently purchased the E130 and installed the mulching kit which I plan to keep in place at all times, and find the deflector of no use and would like to remove it. Is that feasible and would you advise that?
@@darrylwatkins2335 Yes and the cover keeps the grass in the mower housing until fully mulched so the deflector serves no purpose and gets in the way when getting close to trees etc.
@@kentwarden7442 forgive me if I'm not understanding fully as i have not converted my machine to mulching -- isn't the deflector supposed to be removed during the conversion? It sounds like you are stating yours is still attached. Is that correct?
@@darrylwatkins2335 Thanks for your quick response, Darryl and I now realize that my question went beyond your video's goal of providing a detailed overview of the basic features of the E130 which you did in a clear and helpful manner. Neither the manuals for the tractor or mulching kit discussed removal of the deflector when converting to mulching mode so I will plan to check with a JD dealer about that. Thanks and have a great day!
The S240 will have the Kawasaki engine. Pretty nice and if it’s worth the extra $500, go for it. They can come with the smaller 42” deck which is perfect for most residential lawns.
Great machine. Good power when thatching and aeratoring with weight. Worth every penny. Bags clippings and thatch very very well. Do not like the quick oil change. Expensive and you still have to add oil. Will covert back to traditional set up at the end of this season.

I looked at the JD e130 and Cub Cadet XT1 & XT2 . I found the Deer more comfortable but the Cub has four anti scalp wheels and LED head lights. So I am on the fence so to speak, I never had a tractor but I do need one. Can you please share your thoughts on the Cub?
You're asking me to scroll way back in my roladex. Okay, it wasn't that long ago, but in still gonna need to look at price points and a side-by-side comparison. I shall return!
I was on the same fence as you. The deciding factor for me was reported problems in the first 4 years of use, JD had 22% of tractors with issues, Cub had 33% in the same time frame. So the E130 was my choice. I get it in a couple of days.
@@darrylwatkins2335 why does john deere recomend 10w30 briggs told me they recomend 5w30 synthetic they said we make the engine dont go by john deer specs
@@jp-us9rq i wish I had an answer for you. I cannot speak to that. The truth is that I use the EZ Oil Change system which has OEM oil in it. So I haven't paid much attention to the weight and viscosity ratings.
I hope the review helps. In hindsight there is so much more I should've gone over. However, I'm even more satisfied now than when i initially did the review. The nearest service center actually assembles the machines and perform a pre-sale inspection.
I also have the jd e130 I love it. I also got the free dump cart. I went and bought the John Deere magnetic pen for the cart and it’s a lot easier to attach the cart and to unattached the cart
Danny Mehrhoff can you share with us how the magnetic pen works? Also, is it a pricy accessory? The cart has definitely come in handy. I'm assuming you've found some good uses for yours as well?
Darryl Watkins The John Deere magnetic pen is around $21. I like the pin because it has a nice oval handle that your hand fits into pretty easy. The pen is 3 inches long and has a pretty good magnet mounted right under the handle that holds the pin in place. So far I have not had any problems with it seems to be working fine. One last thing I am also still waiting for my John Deere hat hopefully it will get here pretty soon.
Also purchased the E130 from Lowes. The mower is fine but the free cart is mighty flimsy. Also purchased the John Deere magnetic pin for the dump cart.
Log Home funny thing is, I hadn't experienced a problem with the cart until yesterday (soon to post video)... I had to dump some materials. When I disconnected from the mower, it wouldn't lock into dump lock. I finally got it to lock into place, but I must say, that was the last problem i expected! Otherwise, it's pretty handy.
Good review, I bought a 110 from Lowe's about 12 years ago. I mowed my mother's yard and my yard, which is about two and a quarter acre. It lasted me 12years. Very good mowers. Better be glad you didn't buy the Husqvarna, I bought a 2654 3 years ago and the hydrostatic transmission has already went out in it would cost $900 to fix. I'm getting ready to buy the 130 myself and sell the Husqvarna for parts. thanks for the review.

Hi Darryl. Maybe you know this because I am confused. When is the first time the oil filter needs to be replaced? The manual says 50 hours. But some people say that you need to change it after the first 8 hours of use.
Hello. The manual and the chart inside the lip of the hood both say 50 hours. I thought it was 8 hours based on reviews of other machines. I don't think I'll hit 50 hours by the end of cutting season, so I'm just going to change the oil and filter after the season. Maybe I'll call the local dealership today and see what they recommend. Will return with an answer!
Only thing I dont like about this is the briggs and stratton engine. With that being said, the S240 is an easy way to get around that. Other than that, its a perfect light duty mower.
Yeah, Robert... I wish I could help you, there. I'm still waiting for someone to help me! Apparently, the deal was if you send in your registration/warranty card, they would send you a JD hat. The only thing I've received, so far, is an invitation to spend a couple hundred more dollars to extend my warranty. I purchase my hats from Amazon or the JD website. I will say, this is the one experience of ownership that ticked me off, a little. But, their stock is performing well, right now, so I got over it 😁
Just wondering why the bigger Deere models have smaller horsepower. My 130 has 22 horses. I have seen some say using mulch on the bigger models the engine dies out. I haven’t seen any negative issue like that with the 22 horsepower 130 model.
You pose a great question. It is one in which I am not familiar so I will not pretend to give insight. However, I'm hoping your question invites viewers to comment who do have knowledge of this information to educate us all. Thank you for your comment. Happy mowing!
I just bought the x350. It has 18.5 hp and I paid extra for it. It is a Kawasaki and apparantly it has more torque which could be more important. I really paid more because of reliability
@@darrylwatkins2335 I've had mine a little over a year. I named him Jebodiah (Jeb) He does pretty good. I got almost 2 acres to cut. Cuts good. I had a la105 before that. His name was Chomper cause I put him through hell. Keep your deck clean. I use the nozzle attachment and I changed my blades about a month ago. @@Wannagobackto1980 Sweet! Thank you for the advice. I try to keep the deck clean. I did cut one time without spraying it off, but I'll be careful to stay after it from now on. Did you get rid of Chomper? Btw, love the name Jeb!
Hi Darryl, thanks for this review and video. How has the E130 held up ? I am leaning toward this model and want to hear from an owner with experience. Thanks again.
Wonderful! I love it. No problems or issues yet. Solid performance every time. Plus, it is perfect for cutting at 3+ inches. I never cut lower than 3.25". When i let it grow too high I have to double-cut at times, but it leaves a beautiful lawn. Looks like I cut it with a walk-behind. That's how even and precise the cut is. Mind you, I am not paid by JD. I just love this machine!
Can anyone who has commented, so far, share your thoughts on the cut the John Deere E-130 lays down? I'm not sure if it is just the contrast of my older machine and this one, but my wife and I have both noticed that this machine lays down an amazing cut. All areas of the lawn look so evenly cut and manicured. What have you noticed?
Oh...and no clumps of grass laying around, even with the stock blades kit. I don't have mulching blades, nor do I have a bagger, but the E-130 is throwing the grass pretty far and spread out well.
Yes. There are Gator blades for this model. You would just order the blades for the D130, as Gator has not updated their product description to the John Deere E product line as of yet.
I'll try to give you some perspective: I have a .75 acre lot that I double cut. I can pretty much do that (entire lawn plus double cut) twice on the same tank of gas. And the most i put in is 2 gallons because that is size of my gas can.
The E120 also has that 30 second oil change crap. I'll be swapping that out when I get mine. The difference is an extra two horsepower and the bumper. The bumper is $80, so for an extra $100 the E130 gives you more power for $10/pony. No brainer.
Sure. It still runs like a champ. Maintenance is super easy. My only criticism is that most times it requires a double cut. With that, however, it needs to be considered that i do not cut my grass low. I cut anywhere between 3.25 and 3.75 inches. This is my feedback after a year of ownership.
@@darrylwatkins2335 I cut high as well..I have a 2001..Still works well, but looking at the same rig you have on C List..Thanks for the ping back, Tractor On!
Same here , haven't needed too yet . I can say as far as quality it's nothing like the old lawn tractors . I can say did hit a rock on the edge of mower deck pretty hard and thankfully it did not dent it.
Thanks for the review. I was told about the E130 today and wanted to look into it so your review was helpful. Always have been impressed with Deere products. Have you mulched with it?
I have not munched with it. I'm considering converting over the off-season. I will of course let you guys know if i decide to do so. Definitely check it out. It's worth the value, to me. Check out some other reviews and get multiple perspectives. Go sit on one of you still can. I think you'll find you can sit on this machine for hours with no issues. It will be hard to talk yourself out of buying it. Best of luck!
I think the 130 will do you just fine. It will not be too much. For me, the ergonomics will make cutting a 1 acre plot a piece of cake. Steering wheel placement and higher seat back will make for a more comfortable rider operation.
Lol! I can think of several reasons, but I'll keep it simple here. For me, who is also no lawn expert, it may be a challenge to use zero-turn w/o ripping up your lawn with the inside wheel. Two, a tractor will be more stable on a contoured lawn than a zero-turn. With that said, I have nothing against a zero-turn, but the E-130 has an 18" turning radius...with a hydro static tranny, it is just as good If not easier to operate. All about preference, I guess.
@@darrylwatkins2335 Thanks Darryl, I just ordered the E130 with the cart. Can you tell me the width of the cart? Want to see if I can keep that under the house.
@@Sky1 actually, I know for certain it is not wider than the width of the mower. I know that because of how i store it. So I'm guessing anywhere in the range of 36 - 40", max.

I'd highly recommend it. No problems as of yet. Hopefully it will stay that way. I put it to good use in one season and haven't experienced one single problem. Keep me posted.
Went and looked at this yesterday, and looked up reviews and really enjoyed yours, any updates since you posted? I plan on getting one in a month when I can get the funds together, it's a big purchase for me but I want to get a good quality machine over buying a 1000 dollor one ever couple/few years
Orig one maybe 3 yrs , then I bought a interstate battery that has lasted 8 yrs . I put the battery on a maintainer over the winter and that's the trick to making it last .
Thank you for the sub. New content to come. So far, i am tackling hills without issue. Depending on conditions, a back wheel can slip of the ground, grass is wet. I hope this helps!
Wait, what, we didn't get to hear her run? LOL JK. Great video bud. I have been trying to decide what John Deere I want. I am seriously considering the E130. If I can get a picture I'll do a small video and comment with the link. I heard about the plastic transmissions on the Husqvarna. John Deere using them is news to me.
What a failer on John Deere's part. That 30 second oil change is 3 times more expensive and changes the oil in the filter only !!! Anyone with a bit of common sense will can figure it out that the slug and quart of dirty oil stays in the crankshaft and the pan of the engine. John Deere will make you to change the filter Avery 50 hours, or you warranty is terminated. Pure money grabber on John Deere's part and putting the engine at risk. I would never buy any of the 100 E series for just that reason.
Hey the deeres are better then a crapsman I could not find a good mower for the price of these with a metal tranny the crapsman were plastic so were the troy dies and the pussy pro. And yes all those names are adiquite for what those pieces of junk are. John deere is by far better then any other residential mower. Husqvarna is good but just is not built well until you get into the $2500.00 or above price.
I"m not worried about rust and I live in the upper midwest. Used an JD LA125 at the farm for years and had zero issues with it. Beat the hell out of it too. My cousin still has his LA125 mower at his acreage, which is near a marsh, no rust issues. I purchased an e130 from the local implement last summer. Ran pretty well, with zero issues. I probably should check the battery on it and get it running again, but it's been a long, cold winter and it's been in the garage since mid October. Next fall, I'll put a battery maintainer on it and some gas stabilizer for storage. I swapped out the headlights too. Went to the local auto store and grabbed some LED bulbs and installed those. They look great and for $9, makes a hell of a difference. I'll probably swap out the oil change system for a more traditional one this spring. It's just a matter of calling the dealership ahead of time and getting the parts for it.
Update: I went into the garage yesterday and it started right up. This is after sitting idle all winter since October in the garage. It was -25 for an entire week in January and so far, no ill-effects of winter storage. I didn't even put Stabil in the gas tank and it's filled with 10% ethanol like all my other mower has been for many years.
Corrections: E120 model also has 30-second EZ Oil Change system.
In addition to being able to add sunshade accessory, holes in rear fender are for bagger accessory as well.
Darryl Ditch that 30 second oil change !!! You are only changing the oil in the filter for twice the money of a regular filter and 2 qts of oil !!!
JST GOT ONE, ADD BASKET AND CANOPY
darrlymatkins
I bought a Cub Cadet just because I didn’t want the EZ oil change. $40 to change the oil in a lawnmower is to high.
Thank you, Al. I hope you can return in a month or so and let me know your thoughts on it. Happy mowing!
Sweet. I just got the E120 today and mowed a couple of acres low pasture with it. Happy so far!
Just bought an E130 from Lowes today. Pretty confident this will be night and day compared to my 17hp Craftmans mower I've used for the last 8 years. I will be using this to mow 1.5 acre of rough terrain. Anxious to take delivery and test her out. Thanks for the vid.
Awesome news! Please come back and share what you think of it after your first mow. Is the lot that you'll be mowing wide open (few obstacles)?
Awesome! What was the level of difficulty on the oil change conversion installation? That would be a great comment for this video.
Thanks!
Convert over to standard oil filter
Awesome. Thank you for sharing your experience and this valuable piece of advice with this video.
Bought mine yesterday and I love it! I plan on doing a video after a few mows with it. Very articulate review Darryl, good job!
Thanks! Congrats! Post a link to your review when you get it on here.

I'm interested to know how it's been going with your JD. Do you have any feedback one way or another?
@@darrylwatkins2335 Yes sir I do. It has operated flawlessly so far. It starts up every time and does exactly what it is designed to do. Changing the oil is a snap with the spin on filter. Bagger is easy to install and MT's easily. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. I Hope this helps sir.
I just got mine today.......glad to see you like yours......thanks for the info

I am still using my L110 from 2004
Darryl, thanks for the video, good review, lots of info.
Congrats! Thank you for the kind words. Please do share your experiences. Happy mowing!

Great review, I got mine at Lowe's about three weeks ago, so far I really like it.
its been a year.. how is it performing?
Phil DiStefano No trouble yet, I have about 20 hours on it so far. Are you thinking about getting one?

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed. I made it for people in your position, or for those who can decide between machines. I think you'll be satisfied with your purchase. Here I am having owned it for several seasons, now, and it still fires up like the first day it was delivered! Happy mowing/plowing!

First thing to do is get the oil filter conversion kit. Ez change filter is a joke. IMO
@@kylevoss2716 please elaborate. I'm about to do my first oil change this weekend. I'll record, of course.
Great video! Do you mind me asking why you got the e130 vs the e150? Trying to decide between the 2. Thanks!
If I can recall, the E150 was more than what I needed. It turned out the power and the price-point was the goldilocks affect for me.
@@darrylwatkins2335 Cool. Thanks dude!
Thanks man for doing this review! Exactly what I've been looking for! Been going back and forth between the deer and the Cub Cadet XT1 42"
I was the same way trying to decide between the john deer and cub cadet and I went with the John deer it got delivered today so gonna fire it tomorrow
I recently purchased the E130 and installed the mulching kit which I plan to keep in place at all times, and find the deflector of no use and would like to remove it. Is that feasible and would you advise that?
Did your mulching kit not come with a mulching cover?
Nice looking Deere! I am hoping to get one similar to this or a S240 Sport
Thanks for the video, I just bought the E150 and will get it Tuesday. I’m replacing my D110. There’s no reviews on any 150 on here either.
I have been looking at the 150. How do you like it so far? Any issues?
You confirm my thoughts on the quick oil change and the bumper. Thanks for posting!
Did you talk them down any on the price ? I didn't know if they would budge ??

@@darrylwatkins2335 The XT2 42" is the the same price as JD. The JD has 2 more HP

Darryl Watkins I sure will
I also have the jd e130 I love it.
The John Deere magnetic pen is on Lowe’s website for $20.35.
Danny Mehrhoff Thank you for the information. That sounds like a great convenience. I'm going to order one, myself. Thanks again!

Thank you. It would be nice not to have to replace it until next spring.
Only thing I dont like about this is the briggs and stratton engine. With that being said, the S240 is an easy way to get around that. Other than that, its a perfect light duty mower.
Hey Daryll its been a year, How do you like the E130??? Should I buy one???
Love it! It is still treating me good. It's a strong machine. I get good use out of it cutting and clearing out the yard.

I just bought the x350. It has 18.5 hp and I paid extra for it. It is a Kawasaki and apparantly it has more torque which could be more important. I really paid more because of reliability
I got a D-130. Pretty much the same as what you got except yours is updated.
Awesome! What are your thoughts on the D-130? How long have you had it?
@@darrylwatkins2335 I've had mine a little over a year. I named him Jebodiah (Jeb) He does pretty good. I got almost 2 acres to cut. Cuts good. I had a la105 before that. His name was Chomper cause I put him through hell. Keep your deck clean. I use the nozzle attachment and I changed my blades about a month ago.
I just love this machine!
do you still have this mower?
I do
Can anyone who has commented, so far, share your thoughts on the cut the John Deere E-130 lays down? I'm not sure if it is just the contrast of my older machine and this one, but my wife and I have both noticed that this machine lays down an amazing cut. All areas of the lawn look so evenly cut and manicured. What have you noticed?
Oh...and no clumps of grass laying around, even with the stock blades kit. I don't have mulching blades, nor do I have a bagger, but the E-130 is throwing the grass pretty far and spread out well.
It cuts very well, but be careful on uneven ground. Due to the stiffness of the frame, it'll have a tendency to scalp the turf in some areas.
Definitely has a good clean cut , no doubt. This mower does a great job, my lawn looks awesome.
Thanks for the review! I'm ready to buy!
great review man, really appreciate your time....
hi Darryl do you know if you can put gator blades on the mower, tractor, thanks im thinking of getttin one thanks great video, later Darryl
Yes. There are Gator blades for this model. You would just order the blades for the D130, as Gator has not updated their product description to the John Deere E product line as of yet.
Home Depot isn't carrying the E130 this year. I talked to three different areas of HD and no one has an answer: Are you going to be getting them in?
I'm not a dealership. If I were, I would definitely carry this model.
Frederick Fyfe the E130 is only available at Lowe’s now.
Awesome video might have sold me a John Deere! :-)
How long does the 2.4 gallon gas tank last please?
I'll try to give you some perspective: I have a .75 acre lot that I double cut. I can pretty much do that (entire lawn plus double cut) twice on the same tank of gas. And the most i put in is 2 gallons because that is size of my gas can.
Thank you very much for the reply. I was little worried I would run out of gas cutting my lawn under .5 acres.
Nice review ,How much did it cost
Just under $2k.
Darryl, Hey thanks man I appreciate it ....
how do you not start the thing..
I know! I thought about it after recording the video. To be honest, I had enough for that day. I recorded this when I was done mowing. I'm sorry. Lol!
The E120 also has that 30 second oil change crap. I'll be swapping that out when I get mine. The difference is an extra two horsepower and the bumper. The bumper is $80, so for an extra $100 the E130 gives you more power for $10/pony. No brainer.
Hey Darryl, any long term comments for your mower?
Darryl Watkins Darryl does that have to do with blade sharpness at all? Thanks in advance.
No one seems to talk about the quality of the deck - how hard is it to pull it to do belt maintenance, etc?
Haven't crossed that road yet. Will share when that moment comes.
Just reading the comment I left... Of course, I meant to say I have not "mulched" with it. Lol!
I have almost 1 flat acre of land, is the 130 model too much or the 120 better?
I think the 130 will do you just fine. It will not be too much. For me, the ergonomics will make cutting a 1 acre plot a piece of cake. Steering wheel placement and higher seat back will make for a more comfortable rider operation.
Thank You Sir!
I'm not a lawn expert but I do notice that all the landscapers use Zero Turn mowers. Why would I need a tractor instead of a zero turn?
@@Sky1 enjoy your new mower. I'll have to get back to you on that. At work at the moment.
@@Sky1 actually, I know for certain it is not wider than the width of the mower. I know that because of how i store it. So I'm guessing anywhere in the range of 36 - 40", max.
I like a tractor. You need one hand for holding a beverage can
I'm thinking about getting one of these, and I know it's been a while since you posted this video. Would you say it's held up over the course of your mowing season? I know just coming out of winter, but have you had any problems at all?
I'd highly recommend it. No problems as of yet. Hopefully it will stay that way. I put it to good use in one season and haven't experienced one single problem. Keep me posted.
Great review thanks
Went and looked at this yesterday, and looked up reviews and really enjoyed yours, any updates since you posted? I plan on getting one in a month when I can get the funds together, it's a big purchase for me but I want to get a good quality machine over buying a 1000 dollor one ever couple/few years
Love my e130!
I heard them e170s are really nice
Buy the John Deere cover for your seat and it will always look that good. Keep up with your yearly maintenance and it will last for years.
I got the e120 has the 30 second oil change
Cheers for the video great help
Screw that get your hat. It has John Deere's owner Edition on it and it's a way better hat. I've already washed mine like five times.
Hat still hasn't come in. Do I need to 📞 them to put things in motion on getting the hat?
Yeah just give them a call. I assumed you have registered your warranty on your John Deere. I believe in order for me to get my hat I had to do that.
How long does the battery last?
Well, it's brand new. So that remains to be seen...
Not real long..2-3 years tops.
Orig one maybe 3 yrs , then I bought a interstate battery that has lasted 8 yrs . I put the battery on a maintainer over the winter and that's the trick to making it last .
New to the channel, just sub'd thanks for the info. How does it handle steep hills?
Thank you for the sub. New content to come. So far, i am tackling hills without issue. Depending on conditions, a back wheel can slip of the ground, grass is wet. I hope this helps!
Beautiful machine!
Can you show the cruise control area under the hood???
Sure. I'll post a link to the video when i do.
that would be great since I had to repaint my whole tractor and failed to take a photo of that area first.
excellent video
Wait, what, we didn't get to hear her run? LOL JK. Great video bud. I have been trying to decide what John Deere I want. I am seriously considering the E130. I don't have a huge lawn, but I do have a big driveway and I we get a lot of snow, so I want a tractor that I can put a blower on and use it in the winter.
Lol! Funny you said that. I thought that right after I finished the video -- about firing her up. And i keep saying I'll do another video but i haven't yet. Now I'll have to do another video for sure.
@@darrylwatkins2335 LOL Yep you have to do a startup video now, I'll be waiting lol.
@@fourbyfourer i just changed the oil and i have some footage of doing so. Maybe I'll combine it with firing her up and doing a post-mow review of the lawn. Need a few days, however. Just cut it 2 days ago. It should be ready in another 2 to 3 days. Subscribeso u can get a notification.
@@darrylwatkins2335 Yep no problem, I subbed and the bell is turned on lol.
@@fourbyfourer the pressure! 😂😂😂
In all seriousness, thx for the sub!
AVOID RUST ON MOW DECK. SPRAY IT ABOVE AND BELOW WITH WD40
I had a Whoskervarn.
😂😂😅😂😂
A dirty John Deere hat, just the way it should look. 👍
Is that a Briggs and Stratton motor?
I thought it was a John Deere branded engine.
J Beasley yes, it's a Briggs. It is John Deere "branded." However, if you look by the barcode, it has the B&S tag on it. I can do a quick video to show, if you'd like. Let me know.
Darryl Watkins
I see that now. On the front right of the mower engine. Model 44N677. Which is a Briggs engine.
Wonder why they don’t just say that?
@@jbeasley2698 They are trying to lie to you !!!! Also IF you buy a JD from Lowes/Homedepot you get a cheap version of the mower !!!! Cheapo JD's are made by MTD/Husqvarna !!!!!!
@@wilburfinnigan2142 Would you stop spreading this nonsense? People who don't know jack about mowers keep repeating stuff they find on the internet. I bought my e130 from a local John Deere farm implement and it's the same mower they sell at Lowes/Home Depot. These are made in Greenville, TN
@@user-gg2rz2fj1u BULLSHIT !!!! Look and dig deeper !!!! It is not what you think !!! Deere John is trying to compete in the entry market with a cheap, knock off look alike !!!! !
couple hundred more and you can get a hustler raptor in the winter time.
and worry about the Raptor being in the shop longer than being in the yard (due to waiting for parts/ service), hence the reason I'm looking at this E130 review. :-)
Best mower ever 💪 made I promise you.
It cuts uneven when turning and spits chunks of cut grass everywhere.
Oh wow. The E130?
No lack of power ,its strong, its durable, maybe I just need more practice.
@ I wonder if something is wrong with the tensioners that causing it to cut strange when turning. Maybe the geometry changes when turning the machine. I don't know... I'm throwing guesses out there...
@ or...I'm wondering if the bolt that fastens the blades in position just needs tightened. Maybe the blade is leaning when turning causing it to cut uneven. That is certainly an interesting behavior and i would love to know what's causing it.
Sharpen the blades, clean the deck, check for airflow through deck. Try the easy solutions first before moving to the expensive ones.
I just watched another video on these and the guy was saying that some have plastic transmissions
...what kind of s hit is that!!!!!!😞😞😞😞
If I can get a picture I'll do a small video and comment with the link. I heard about the plastic transmissions on the Husqvarna. John Deere using them is news to me.
That's only on the CVT model
@@ltweed2
Not the hydrostatic, right?
@@Just1American1966 right, and it's not completely plastic, abd still a tough transmission
@@ltweed2
Yeah, that's what I heard, that it's just part of the case that's plastic. Thanks. My two Craftsmans have the hydros, anyway.
6:53 what is a oscavarn????? Do you mean husqvarna
Finn Campeau i heard the correct pronunciation was 'OOZ-kVARN'. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Darryl Watkins husqvarna is pronounced husq-varna
Darryl Watkins grant video tho! Awesome review
Finn Campeau looks like we can both learn a lesson today:

Darryl Watkins I don’t know that’s not how husqvarnas commercials say it or all of the reviews on line
John deer who use everyone's parts and puts there name it!😮 John deer the MOST over priced mowers and parts! They look good but! When they age!😢
Low end junk. Just a real Deere.
Do not buy one of these rust buckets you have been warned
thanks
Hey the deeres are better then a crapsman I could not find a good mower for the price of these with a metal tranny the crapsman were plastic so were the troy dies and the pussy pro. And yes all those names are adiquite for what those pieces of junk are. John deere is by far better then any other residential mower. Husqvarna is good but just is not built well until you get into the $2500.00 or above price.
You get what you pay for
I"m not worried about rust and I live in the upper midwest.
