Pokemon Yeah Nah was recently updated as the Australian Pokemon region! In 2022, the full Pokemon Straya Pokedex was released and there are heaps of amazing new Pokemon! I'm not gonna lie, these regional Pokemon are the best I've seen in years
a cool thing a pokemon could have been based on is the stromatolites which are mounds of Cyanobacteria that predate to the Precambrian and there still around today! And one location they could be found in is Australia! I actually designed a pokemon (3 stage) for the stromatolite.

Having been putting together my own Australia based region it's pretty cool to see that some of the same basis of ideas were had between myself and the artist making this region.
so much love was put into this project and you can see it from how much australian culture the artist poured into the designs. Obviously this is partially because they are an australian but i love how they didn’t rely on stereotypes and actually included a mix of Aussie history, nodders jokes and pop culture alongside traditional indigenous elements in the names and backgrounds of some of the pokémon. just the amount of love and effort put into this is so visible and i adore the designs

The 5 ??? pokèmon combining into the Opera House might also be a reference to Exodia from Yugioh (you need to combine 5 cards - head, arms & legs, from memory - to summon the monster).

There's actually a hint in the art classroom in Scarlet and Violet that Gen 10 games might be based on Australia. Either that or in Italy as hinted in player character's house.

These are THE best designed and well thought out pokemon I have seen since at least gen 2 and 3

It's a mixed bag overall, but there are so many *fantastic* designs here. I love the early route bird line despite how "out there" they are. Those two would probably be in my top 50 favorite Pokemon if they were official. Some other standouts to me are Dropbare, the Git line, the Gomp line, Ashicket, Artilemu, Falsridus, Jawcicle, Exacore, Dinomite, Termound, Anglow, Specterror, Buzzler, and the Allignetic line.

The reason why Meowth and Persian have those creepy lookings is to imply and criticise how stupid the Australian government has been in terms of dealing the cat crisis on this land, which they themselves caused. It started from them bringing cats from Europe to here, failed to manage their over-population and now millions of felines are miserably straying on the streets, inevitably hunting in the wild that destroy the natural food chain, and living in endless nightmares as the government are ironically and ridiculously aiming to kill them in the width of a war. Cats never belong to Australia and so is the Meowth family. They be sad, miserable, full of anger, and there go the regional form! (My theory)

Tumbela & Tangreed they based off the unused baby and evolved forms of Tangela from Pokémon Gold & Silver beta.
so many references and details like how the scorcht line is made from the colours of the indigenous flag and quarzuroma could be referencing the torres strait islands with its colours and headdress.

I really liked the Sydney opera house one, along with morteam, tangreed, coray, the dino (steel?) ones, specterror and buzzler. They were definitely my favorites, but they all looked really cool!
Also I think the mimikyu was based off of hallow knight, which I thought was cool!

I was starting to get worried that there wouldn't be a kookaburra Pokémon. AND THEN I SAW KACKLEBURRA AND KOOKABUNDER AND I WAS SOOOO HAPPY!!! I LOVE Kookaburras and the electric typing is my fave just under dragon and just above steel.

This is beyond perfect! It royally sucks that there is no offical or fair way set up for nintendo to use them or even similar concepts for a game without MASSIVE copyright infringement . NOT MEANT TO DISCORAGE THE FAN ARTISTS!!! I LOVE these designs so much, and I am so happy to see one of my countries represented in such a neat and well thought out bunch of artworks. I just am a little salty can’t actually play them!! Someone get nintendo to hire these people and give them a small fortune to keep making amazing pokemon!!
