Because of What It Changed
Theme: The birth of Jesus presented a tremendous change. It changed God’s relationship with us, our position with God, and our future with God.
Key Verse: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” ~ Matthew 1:20-21
Opening Statement:
How many of you like change?
Most people resist change. The only population that doesn’t resist change are the young. In fact, they embrace change.
Have you ever wondered why that is?
Well, I would like to propose that it is because change has been a constant part of their lives and most of the changes have been good. They go from being helpless in a cradle to slowly becoming autonomous adults. Not much of the change has been bad and if it is they look forward to the next change making it good again.
The older we get the more we see that the changes we experience are not so good. We go from being energetic to less so. We go from getting up feeling refreshed to getting up feeling sore! We go from trying to gain strength to trying to lose weight. The list could go on and on!
A young person doesn’t know what the “good ole days” are about. In fact, they might think of those “good ole days” as boring and antiquated!
In our automated world you will notice that change is constant. Your phone is always notifying you of something that needs to be updated. Currently my phone says there are 78 programs, or apps, that are requesting an update!
Why haven’t I updated them? Well, there are 2 reasons. 1) I don’t really care about those apps and 2) They are working just fine without the update. Oh, and another reason is I think some of those updates are simply to include advertisements into the apps.
Today we are going to look at another reason that Christmas is Special. It is special because of the changes it brought about. I will be sharing about 3 changes that the birth of Jesus brought about.
