For the benefit of anyone born in the late 1960s these are some images of how lovely Liverpool City Centre was in 1965 and the architecture from the Victorian and Edwardian era that gave the city so much character.
The Policeman on point duty (a regular sight) back then at 11.19 is at the Queensway Tunnel entrance,
left is Whitechapel, centre Victoria Street, right, Manchester Street. I worked in a fruit importer whose office was in Victoria Street. That in 2022 looks deserted of people and employment both in abundance in 1965 when this film was made

The world changes, especially a world run by international corporations. I was stationed in Bremerhaven, West Germany 1963-66 [USAF]. Today it looks nothing like it did back then. What those early days in 1963 did give me was the pre-British Invasion of America. Frankly it saved rock 'n roll in America. As for the past, I understand Radio Lux is no longer around. That's where I heard music coming out of Great Britain in those long-ago days.

I was invited to John McNally's wedding, at St Johns Road. All girls were screeming because all members of the Searchers were there too. The best era of music, the best time of my life. Thanks for the memory.

Great documentary as Pathe (like saying Cafe with the accent mark above the 'e') films are, great 35mm Film Cinematography and Post-Production with the 'Technicolour' look, see how rich the reds and blues are, compared to today's earthy-reality look from the 1990's onwards. They could make films like that then but we seem to have lost the skill/ability to do it now. The Pathe films were made to be shown Cinemas as there still wasn't colour TV yet, hence the high production values (filming in summer for better light, etc); these days no one cares anymore.

There's a lot I love about this but the colours stand out ( the policemen directing traffic looks positively angelic) brilliantly.... makes we want to step into that world if only for a day ....

      Film & TV
When you look at the grainy old black and white footage of the Cavern and then compare with this it's almost impossible to believe it's the same time and place, give or take a couple of years).
The decline of cinematography as an 'art form' is sad to see. Look at Freddie Young's work on Lawrence of Arabia or his seascapes in Ryan's Daughter, epic.
Even black and white was way better than anything we see today, Robert Krasker, Musaraca ,John Alton and many other cinematographers created the kind of visual experience we seldom see these days.

The images at 3.36 are traffic turning into Broad Lane from Bewley Drive in the Southdene suburb of Kirkby on Merseyside.
The Police vehicle is later seen driving along Park Brow Drive.
Despite a lot of negativity, Kirkby was a vibrant town in 1965.
It was governed by Kirkby Urban District Council that served the town until 1974. And had the largest industrial estate in Europe.
Its secondary schools were some of the finest in the country, with facilities as good as the prestigious private schools.
One school, Brookfield produced two footballers, Phil Thompson and Dennis Mortimer, who have the rare distinction of captaining their clubs who won the European Cup. Liverpool and Aston Villa.
1965 was the year I left school and recall working in the city centre that was a marvellous place in the 60s

Fantastic footage of the Searchers. Especially Tony "Black Jack" Jackson. He came to a rotten end - mostly his own fault - but to me he has aquired a kind of "legendary" status.

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts Рік тому +2

They might not have been referring to Stratocasters. Look a bit after that at 6:27, I can't recognize that particular make or model. It looks like an Asian import, but perhaps not. (Both guitars look to be the same make and model.)
I once had a guitar with a metal pickguard, but it was a cheaper model than those shown here, if only because mine only had one pickup instead of three. Its wiring was also confusing and badly done, and it couldn't have been modified to be that way. However, a confusingly bad wiring job is not necessarily typical of cheap 1960s - early 1980s Asian imported guitars - I really don't know them very well.
