  • Billy Corgan (frontman of the Smashing Pumpkins) backhandedly announces the breakup of Zwan on Chicago's WGN-9 Morning News program, 15 September 2003.
He also speaks about performing on the final show of the Bozo the Clown show, as well as the beginnings of his short-lived poetry career.
I found this on the internet in 2003. It's short and it's obviously not the best quality, but I haven't seen this clip anywhere online. So don't come at me bro

No doubt…saw them three times and met David Pajo at the airport one day and asked about Zwan after they were broke up…he didn’t say much, but he was happy to hear me tell him how much I enjoyed them.

Weirdly Billy Corgan just played a song he wrote dedicated to Wizzo for this New Years Eve TV broadcast thing for Chicago.

I met David Pajo at Columbus Ohio airport…this was after Zwan, and told him how I went to see them 3 times…he was happy to hear it…but I don’t think he is a big fan of Billy, so I didn’t want to ouch the issue…good guy it seems though…I think he appreciated being recognized.

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly happened to Zwan. I remember Billy hinting at there being too much partying and shit going on, but who really knows? I saw them twice back in the day and always thought they were better live than what their album portrayed.

@@garrethboland Billy said they were partying and sleeping with each other…Pajo said that Billy only adopted his “religious” persona to make more money…He said that Billy would go around and just tell David how big of a star Billy was and how famous his songs were…at first, he thought Billy was just being funny, but not so much later on…He then compared him to Alan Partridge, if you know who that is… now he didn’t say any of this to me, but I read this an interview that he had given to someone it’s probably online somewhere still and I mentioned that I had read what he had said about Billy and I couldn’t tell if he was weirded out by it or not so I just dropped it

@@justincarpenter1197 Still would be cool to hear a more definitive version of what happened. It's seemed so hard over the years to get any information at all about the breakup. I also wonder what Jimmy though of the situation. Pajo got me into TNT by Tortoise, which I still think is a great record.

He probably didn't say much cause Billy blamed him for one of the reasons zwan broke up

@@garrethboland the story is that when they would write music and jam, it was fun and totally collaborative. But then after they decided to make a record, things started to go bad. Billy took the recording process ultra-seriously &. Authoritatively b/c he knew fans and critics had expectations. But the other band members that were not used to this kind of recording budget started ordering expensive food and just wanted to jam still. So there was resentment both ways, and before you know it they broke a up.
