- Katrina and the Waves were a British-American rock band featuring American singer Katrina Leskanich on vocals and keyboards, and her then-boyfriend (and fellow American) Vince de la Cruz on vocals and lead guitar. They were known for the 1985 hit "Walking on Sunshine" and they won the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Love Shine a Light".

TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years.
World famous music artists performed on TopPop: ABBA, 10CC, Bee Gees, The Jacksons, David Bowie, Earth & Fire, Boney M, Smokie, KC & The Sunshine Band, Chick, Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, and many many more.
One night, in a bar, in the 80's, in Toronto, Canada I bumped into a woman I attended high school with in the mid 70's. We graduated in '75. She went off in one direction and I went off in another. The place was "hoping". As our eyes caught, it was wonderful to see an old friend from "the hood". I recall we had both had a few "dranks" in us and were quite happy to see each other.... when this song began to play. We grabbed each other by the arms and ran onto the dance floor with about a 50 other couples who were smiling from ear-to-ear bumping into each other, singing the tune loudly, jumping in the air, giggling like a couple of kids.... sweating, pumped up, and I could never remember the song until now... what a great tune... I'll remember to put it my playlist... and dance around the kitchen with my grand-kids one day :)

The 80s was a time when people didn't know whether to dance Disco or New Wave. That's why the 80s are more known for its flamboyant singers.
Some new wave was disco. Depeche Mode comes to mind. 😂

I’m an Air Force BRAT. From 1973 to 1976 (5th to 7th grade), we were stationed in Mildenhall, England but living nearby in Feltwell on Portal Close. I knew Vince de la Cruz’s younger brother (also an Air Force BRAT.) Back then, we heard his older brother (Vince) was in a band. Our thoughts were skeptical: “Yeah, Yeah…” Back in the states in 1985, “Hey, I know that guy!...”
