@@lojofishing You got to do that again but with some bigger rods for casting distance(8 to 12ft)and some big fresh cut bait like bluegill, shad,or skipjack.also in that strong of current I would recommend using 5 to 8oz weights to keep your bait in place, especially since the bigger the bait the bigger you want you weight because that current will pull it in a snag. And if you use a sante cooper rig you might catch more fish because it gets you bait out of all the crap on the bottom of the river and more in the fishes face.🔥🎣
i was fishing at about 2am with live 5" panfish and hooked up and fought for about 4-5 minutes and got snagged up on something, i made the poor decision to take off my shoes socks pants and shirt down to my underwear and dove in held the line and swam about 60 yards into the schuylkill river during high tide, followed the line underwater and was unwrapping line for about 2 minutes pitch dark under muddy water about 25 feet down, when i came up i was screaming to my girlfriend at the time to START REELING!!!!! BARELY and i mean barley swam back hit shore about 150 yards from where i went in and ran as fast as i could threw thick brush cut the hell from sticker bushes and briars and landed the biggest flathead ive ever caught 38" at 21.4 lbs ill never forget it, there's a picture of me in my undies smiling my a** off holding em up hahah
❤ MORE LIKE THIS ONE! My favorite 2nd to the last one with you’re daughter. Good job Lojo! I’d like to see you seek out fishing spots and have interesting interactions in spots like that. Cool stuff, long time fan ✌🏼
That's one of my honey holes. Can't believe old dude told you the secret bait 🤣 I've always had the best luck when they are generating. I've seen that water halfway up the stairs. Most guys that fish there with the big rods smack that wall on the other side. Catfish are fun but the hybrids are the best. Check out the Sneeds dam if you wanna see sketchy. Awesome video 👌
I like what y’all doing fishing for different species of fish didn’t get me wrong bass fishing is fun but so is fishing for all the other types too Good times catfish tip when in current cast mid stream (don’t let more line out ) let it do it’s thing . It will stop in a dead spot or near a snag . As long as I think bait still on there I leave it there I had cats bite while it’s snagged up and they un snag it . I caught a bunch of cats like that . 👍👍👍
@@lojofishing O yeah On a three way swivel or Drop shot . I always use lighter line to tie my sinker that way I only lose the sinker instead of whole rig cause about 7 out 10 times it’s your sinker that snagged . Main line 50 lb, Leader line to hook 50 lb then 20 lb line to sinker .. Hope this helps
Yeah! A repeat would be fine, could you also fish one of the other dams close by, like the BAMA side of Lake Harding or day trip to West Point. It’s a great crappie spot. Richard Gene is something else man. Great vid with your daughter.
Richard Gene is so awesome! You're so right saying he's a character! He's given me some good ideas regarding Crappie fishing. I picked up some bass fishing pointers from you, so Kudos there LOJO. I vote for doing again. You got some "tricks" now. You need one of those big rods. Marshmallows???? Never heard of that before, but who can argue with those results!
All the lost equipment from fishing below spillways is exactly why I don't fish below them anymore. Never seen marshmallows used for cats thats pretty cool
I'd definitely try there again but rig up a giant slip cork so you can adjust depth and not hang up as much. The bigger fish will usually be concentrated right inside the openings of the dam once you get a good depth (probably 9 to 10ft). Fresh cutbait caught from river tends to work best.
My go to for catfish is 50lb braid, three 3/4oz bullet sinkers, a Styrofoam float wedged onto a swivel, a leader (usually steel), a 5-8/0 hook, and 5-6 dead minnows. Cast it, pull it tight, loosen the drag, add an armful of slack, then set it and forget it until you hear the clicks. Has never failed me.
We have a dam here that's very similar. When the water is running, the bite is on fire! Once it stops, you just catch small ones sporadically. The longer rods help us get more distance. We are much further from the turbines. If we can get it all the way to the dam, there are little pockets where the water barely moves in a circle. We use large corks and it's almost guaranteed to have a fish in the first 20 seconds if you can land your bait in one of those pools. When you first threw your marshmallows out with the water running, i was thinking that you better be ready. It doesn't take long for a bite. If you didn't get that bite so quickly, you likely would have been hung up in the rocks a few seconds later.
BANGER!!!! Try some cut chicken breast with garlic salt and cherry koolaid cut in 1” pieces throw in ziplock add koolaid and garlic salt and hang on!(no need to add any water)!!!!
I used to think fishing with norm was the best untill I discovered your channel it is by far the best I've seen on UA-cam all the best from Newcastle England
Ive fished both sides and normally prefer the other side. Caught way more over there but my favorite spot is the next dam down river in the really rough water. Ive caught massive catfish and stripers down there.
When them gates were open that was prime time. The fish that hang out up by inlets know that when the water increases the bait flow increases, so they are ready for feeding time. That bait caster with a live bluegill on the hook would have been money. 3oz flat sinker 12” 50lb leader tied to 65lb braid. That’s the pretty standard big flatly setup around here.
Marshmallows have always been a go to when pond fishing. But when fishing the chattahoochee and lake Seminole we use cut up hot dogs in white vinegar with minced garlic and black cherry kool-aid. It makes them crazy. You’ll for sure get some big ones.
I'm saltwater fishing with a shakespeare contender reel on a sturdy stik. Quite old stuff. Prob cost $50, 15 or so yrs ago. I've landed several 40+inch red and black drum with it.
I’ve caught a couple 5/6 ft black tips with that ugly stick/abu casting set up. Absolutely love it just last one I hooked spun the connection where reel meets rod
Yes MORE DAMN Videos. but u don't need to buy a rig , just tie the line the same as a rig especially if you have 40-50lb line, catfish don't have teeth. those metal leaders rigs are mainly for fish that teeth, like gar or sharks on the coast. my grandparents always used hotdogs or chicken livers for catfish bait, some people just use frozen shrimp.
I'm in Alabama too and we fish cut bait or whole live bluegill or shad in that current to catch big striper. As soon as the current goes down its cut bait, dough balls, strawberry koolaid on hotdogs and well you found the other secret lol. You'll catch carp, catfish and striper or hybrids with those baits right after the stop generating.
I legit clicked on this thinking it was a 618 video. Great job mimicking the thumbnail and the spillway fishing is interesting for me. I know you’ve said you respect his thumbnails on the podcast and you nailed it here
As a guy who’s used surf rods there are some good 30-40 dollar surf rods on Walmart and cabellas. I’d recommend y’all to pick some up and give it another try.
@@lojofishing sweet! Can’t wait to see the video!! Also marshmallows. I’ve been fishing catfish for a few years and have used corn, hot dogs, and fish chunks. But never marshmallows. We always learn something new from the pros. Keep up the vids and I love the energy given in all your vids. Keep it up mate🤙🏻
hey lojo you need to get a snagging rod as we call it for river fishing its a double one piece rod and you can also put a lil motor on them hooked to a battery and not have to reel
Sup lojo, great video, more realistic to some of us with times so hard, marshmallows work, can put in bag and season them, marinade, use mini ect.., I always enjoy bro, tyvm tc 🎣
Fort Gains GA is the place for the big catfish. And Richard Gene The Fishing Machine is the man he is funny and a good video to watch and learn from . Great videos coming from you and I enjoy every single one of them . Keep up all the great work LOJO
Sometimes the most random thing that you think might not carch you fish is what they go after. Learned this one time me and a budy went to a marina and was gwtting skunked and a older lady was out there tossing a line out with white bread on the hook. Needless to say the next time we went there we had a loaf of white bread with us.
I do a lot of bigger fish, I suggest a bigger weight on the baitcaster, then tie the leader the same, but tie on a second swivel and about 12” of a lighter line and a like 1-2oz sinker. You’ll have half a chance at not losing the whole rig, and if the fish takes it it won’t have added resistance.
If y'all go again, look up "Kentucky rig" or the "Santee Cooper" rig and you get hung, always if you don't wanna use cut bait, chicken breast will do perfect, many 30-60lb cats have been caught on chicken breast
Personally when I'm fishing the river or around a dam I tie between 2 or 3 foot of 12 pound mono as a leader for my weight so when I get hung up it's easy to snap it off and not loose my hooks it comes in handy fishing around the rocks in setx
Take some fresh shad for cut Bait the bigger shad better. fish that spillway. Stryper will hit it too. Also try using hotdogs and chicken cut in chunks mixed with either cherry or strawberry jello some garlic.
I fish watery damn in South Carolina. The best time to fish that is when the gates are open, you can use a big float ring or use 4 ounce weight in cask right ahead of where the swirls start where the water starts back feeding at least here where I’m at that’s where some of the bigger calves start the school
Maybe if you passing through sc we can take ya last year we got one that was about 70ish pounds multiple about 25-35 pounds And 2 wouldn’t fit in our net because they locked there’s fins straight haha ending up breaking off both trying to get em in
Should we fish here again??
You should check your Instagram msgs and come fish in ontario
You definitely need to fish there again and the marshmallows were a really cool idea. I would’ve never thought to use something like that.
plz loved the video
There's monster trout here in ontario
