I am looking for a more aero wheelset to replace the Royal C38 have as a road setup on my 3t Exploro. After your remarks, I guess the 303s are out of the equation. For the Hunt there is a 200eur difference in price at the moment, 50/65 cheaper than the 44/54. Do you also get that woooshing on the 44/54 like you get on the 50/65? Really split on what to choose as a new aero carbon set.
Hi Pedro. Thanks for your time watching! As to your question, the "audio" effect is definitely not as exaggerated on the slightly shallower 44/54. However, for day to day all around riding tackling variety of different terrains, I reckon the 44/54 may do you better whilst still giving you the aero benefits over something shallower. For what it's worth, 44/54 comes with Hunt's Aerodynamicist branding LOL... Let me put it this way. IF something happens to my 44/54, I will run out and buy me another set without thinking.
Great video. I have a set of 303 firecrest and they perform great in any condition but they are expensive. I have been looking for an aero wheelset and i am looking at Hunt and Reserve wheels. Hunt being the budget wheelset, i want speed on my trek emonda SLR. Do you think 54mm or the 50/65? I will keep my 303 firecrest for the climbing days.
Thank you for your time watching! 50/65 definitely motors once you get up to certain speeds just barreling down the road. Reserves by Cervelo are interesting as Jumbo Visma boys will be racing those. I would like to try a pair myself at some point hopefully. If you are seeking one dimensional as in flat out aero speed, 50/65 from Hunt I can recommend highly especially if you have the 303FC to fall back on for channeling your inner goat :)
I have the same bike as yours, Trek Emonda, am still riding with the stock Bontrager Aeolus 37 wheels. Am in the market to upgrade. 303 firecrest is top of list. But my friends said it's only 3mm deeper than the stock wheels, what's the point of the upgrade blah blah blah. What's your thoughts on this. Also, after watching Diabetic cycling review, am kinda sold with Hunt wheels. Maybe 4454 is a better option?
@@MrRon03y Hi, the 303 firecrest are great but expensive, they do have a great hub and are very wide internally to make it more aero. The Aeoulus 37 are good but one tier down from the Firecrest. What type of riding are you going to do? Flats, climbing mixed terrain? Hunts are great and bargain price. Quality may be lower than the Zipps but still great wheels. Hunt 44/54 may be faster all rounder than the zipps but the 48 Hunt limitless may be more modern and faster than the 44/54. Tell me the type of riding.
@@rlmurillo To be frank, I don’t ride that much. I only ride 3 times a week. Mostly local ride, around 30-50km, mixed terrain, the elevation of the whole ride is around 500-700m, no real climb but just a few rolling hills. Occasionally, I do long ride (around 100-150km) on Saturday. It would involve a few climbs. That said, most of the climbs in Sydney are around 3-5km distance, 200-250m elevation gain. Its about 15-20mins effort (for me) to finish the segment. I just realized Hunt 44/54 is only $300AUD cheaper the 303 & 404 FC. So, Hunt is NOT that good value after all (import tax & GST charged from the custom) My friend suggested me WTO45 as well. The downside is, there is no crash replacement, and I heard the after service from Campagnolo is terrible. I am so lost now. I just don’t know which option is the best for my riding style. Your input is greatly appreciated.
@@MrRon03y How windy does it get in your area? Sounds you can get away with wheels 45-56 deep those will be fast on the flats and carry speed into the rolling hills, on the steeps you will loose a few seconds but would make it up on the flats. Have you hear about Light Bicycle wheels? Chinese company, costume builts offered 5 year warranty on the premium policy or lifetime warranty for extra money. You costume built with good components. I have learn that Chinese wheels can be good if you know what to look for, Wide internally, good spokes, brass nipples and a good hub, not the cheap ones they sell at the lower prices. See how is their import fees for AU. Their falcon pro is a strong option. If that works built something deep hopefully will be a bargain compare to the Zipps and keep the Aeolus 37 for climbing, upgrade the hub to the 54T ratchet and put some good bearing and there, you have two wheel set, for climbing and one for speed.
I did notice that too. They have discontinued the combination since. I still see them selling the 50 and then 65 but just not in a combination like when I bought.

Hi! What is your experience with those Pirelli tyres? I'm guessing these are P Zeros TLRs. How do they compare to Schwalbe Pro Ones or Enves you've put on?
I have a "battle of tires" episode coming up soon. P Zero TLRs are the Pirellis I run. I terms of comparison, Schwalbe Pro Ones are the best in my opinion "overall" but the 28mms don't seat well while 25mms have been ROCK SOLID all aspect. Pirellis roll super fast but the road feedback not as good as the Schwalbes personally. Enves are currently my favs for 28mm since the ride quality is stupid nice (best). More in depth thoughts will be in an episode coming up in about 3-4 weeks. Thanks GP!

My experience with the lower level Hunt wheels is mixed. They perform well but the hubs broke when doing general maintenance and I've had spokes break as well. I do appreciate the level of detail in your review and the fact that you acknowledge that they roll well because they have high inertia which is what makes them a little lower to pick up in an uphill sprint. Your 2 reviews helped me seal the deal on ordering one. Doesn't arrive until 1/3/23, and dying with anticipation. After your reviews I'm heavily leaning towards putting some Hunt wheels on it. Just curious if you like the ride better between the 5065 you have on the Prince or the 4454's on your other bike?

I prefer the 4454 if you just want 1 wheelset only for all-arounder type of deal. 50/65 deadly fast on flats not suitable if you live next to Nairo in Columbia :) If you can spend a few extra bucks though, I gotta say go with the new Dura Ace C50s OH MY DAYS!!!!
Your theory of being to seconds slower vs a shallow wheel is flawed. Shallower wheel has less rotational inertia which in turn requires way lesser power output compared to deeper wheels and this is not including weight. So if you are on a deep rim that’s also heavier, it will require more effort and more power to maintain the same pace as a shallower wheel. If a shallow wheel require an average 300watts to reach the top in 1 hour, You will need 350 watts to reach the top in 1 hour with deeper wheels. If you average 300 watts, you will not be 10 seconds slower but maybe 1-2 minutes.
These wheels coupled with RideNow TPU inner tubes (lighter than tubeless) is fantastic. I also have a set of the new Craft Racing wheels (and same RideNow TPUs) and this combo will having you looking down to check that you actually have the wheels on the bike. Craft Racing seems to have gotten everything right with their wheels.
Factor fanboys will argue but in my opinion, one isn't better than the other. Argument will come in a way where the Ostro VAM is raced by a pro tour team whereas the Prince isn't. Geometry is definitely a hair more aggressive on the Ostro VAM for sure. Riding both bikes mentioned every week, I can't tell you one is an upgrade over the other.
Good review. I own the 44/54 and love them. I also have Zipp 404, Zipp 303s, Farsports Feder 45's and Reserve 34/37 and the hunts feel best in crosswinds and my speeds seem consistent with the Zipp 404 which are 58mm
If you could buy a set of zipp 404 for almost the same price of a set of hunt 44/54, which one would you buy and why? I live in the Netherlands, close to the coast, there aren’t a lot of hills around unless you go closer to Germany, and touch terrains like where they organize Amstel Gold Race. Also I don’t bike with winds above 13/15mph. It’s not fun anymore.
Hambini is a poor cyclist and a hack engineer with no credibility in the cycling design world. Drink the kool-aide if you'd like. When he starts to design and mass produce something other than a BB then I'll take him seriously.

I have much to say about his antics but this isn't the platform for such. I base all my statements based on just my personal experience only as you have come to known me here. I currently run 2 different sets of Hunts and have ridden thousands of miles on them. When speaking "performance per dollar", I reckon you'd be hard pressed to find a set as good. Surely there are better wheels but I feel that there isn't too much of sacrifice while keeping dollars in wallet. I don't take things apart cause I'm not an engineer but I ride the shit out of my bikes and all my thoughts would be based on how things ride if you know what I mean. Thanks as always!

I’ve had my Hunt 50’s for 7 months and have over 2000 miles on them. They’re a great wheel and won’t break the bank.

I’m loving my 2021 Prince but really like the the Factor Ostro Vam. Do you consider the factor as an upgrade from the prince or comparable?
