I wonder! But those are the dynamics of us Africa. We stuck in the colonial era instead of moving forward. Start from somewhere.

No one is defending him . . but this is the likely scenario from here on out . . . The ill-gotten gains (including the 30 Million euro fine) will be consumed by the very kind French ministry . . as "NO MECHANISM EXISTS FOR COMPENSATION OF THE PEOPLE OF EG YET", which really means that most of that stays with France and a small fraction will be "kindly" sent as foreign aid . . . .this aid will then be configated by various corupt government groups and will be divided mostly amonst its working population to keep that Oil a-flowing . . . so the real victims will continue being the poor people of EG . . so this is nothing but a publicity stunt and cash grab by the French government . . . which is this guy is never going to spent a day in prison or care about any of these show trails . . He knows their country feeds greedy western interests in exchange for political protection and a reasonable slice of the pie.

If France doesn't find a way to give this money back to the people of Equatorial Guinea it will be just as bad.. France doesn't have a clean history in Africa, but we should give it the benefit of the doubt.. let's see how the story proceeds

Meanwhile Sarkozy is walking freely , another example of France's typical racist and colonialist mindset.

It's relevant because the international community's political will to punish corruption and war crimes only extends to punishing African leaders. Western politicians never get brought in front off the ICC or get caught up in international investigations. Punishing wrongdoers is always good, but some balance would be appreciated

Equitorial guinea is a rich country, the only sub Saharan Africa nation who became a developed nation in 2005-2010 with a GDP per Capita of $22,000 but sadly their economy has gone down with a current per Capita income of $11,000
