- This was a bit unusual. The R160s with Siemens propulsion are based out of Coney Island and run on the N/Q lines. They sound different when accelerating and decelerating compared to the standard Alstom propulsion-equipped R160s that normally run on the F line. Quite out of the ordinary. Thanks to my friend who caught it at Kings Highway for the heads up on this!

Sounds so much like Singapore’s Siemens C651. Love the sound over other trains we have here such as Alstom, Kawasaki and Bombardier ones..

there was already a siemens on the B and D lines
The (B) and (D) aren't going to receive any NTT trains until the R68/As use up their lifetime which is not like until the 2030s or 2040s. The Concourse Yard controlling the stocks in the Bronx really like those old 80s models. The only time any R160A/B would popup on there is during special events which would give them no choice but take in the extra trains for extra service (usually from Coney Island Yard).

The E and F share equipment and are based out of Jamaica. Must've been a problem with a set which caused it to have been taken out of service at Coney Island, and a different set had to fill in for the Queens bound run.
I hate the Alstom propulsion sound, but the Siemens one is beautiful.

Wait, so when a R160 Siemens N or Q train parks into the Coney Island Yard, and they turn off the Letter to Not In Service, the driver leaves, and another driver changes the train into an F train, and the 2nd driver didn't notice it was Siemens?

As Richard mentioned, the Siemens propulsion package sounds different from the Alstom propulsion package that is on the R160s that usually run on the F.
+Dj Hammers Thanks! used to ride the E & F to 179th when I lived in Queens. Now if I had to run there I'd need to check a map. I know the E still goes there plus another line but not the F.
Oh, and what I would give to ride an R1 again!
+Richard Clarke well technically the E goes there but it's limited rush hours only, which is somewhat rare-ish. But yeah, otherwise you're right, the E ends at Jamaica Center.

Back when this was rare, and it used to be on the N,Q &W ALOT. This is just a everyday thing now.

Been a norm ever since R160s switched to Jamaica Yard
How did you manage to get the three different shots. I'm guessing you took the arrival shot at Smith 9th Street, got on, rode to West 4th Street, switched to the express to pass the local F, got off at Rockefeller Center, took the second arrival shot, rode to Roosevelt Island, and took the departure shot.

Different yards. The won't run anywhere outside of the N/Q regularly.
This aged pretty well. The fact that Queens Blvd is now CBTC, this is pretty common on the F line.

I think the driver mistook a siemens train for an Alstom train and didn't know until his end of shift
No, so basically there was a shortage so a Coney Island set was sent out on the F and then after the trip was finished it went back to Coney Island, however all the R160s (5 car sets) except 90 R160A cars were sent to Jamaica for CBTC. So now this is normal.

yes it is possible and there's have been some weird alstom/siemens mixed set running somewhere

What's the difference between this and Kawasaki
King Andrew Kawasaki did the body work on the r160b’s which is what you see here while Alstom did the body work on the r160a’s and the propulsion for the r160a’s and most of the r160b’s. Siemens did the propulsion on the r160b’s but only for a a good 200 plus cars. Siemens cars are numbered 8845-9102. All the other cars are Alstom propulsion

They should also make the strip with the stops on the R142 exactly like the the ones on the R160 instead of having them be like the one on the R143
R188 (new, not the r142a converts) should be equipped with the Siemens Proplsion.
I like both Siemens and R142A/R188 propulsion equally so idc if either are used on the R160s or R142As

@@Icyleo Jamaica has all Siemens based out of Coney Island, So it’s not even a rare catch anymore. Also Queens Blvd Line is having CBTC so they basically took nearly all Coney Island cars from the swap and replaced it with remaining R46s and sharing R68/As from the B/D Lines

Chrian Reyo1 There are two types. One with Alstom and one with Siemens. 260 cars 8843-9102 have the Siemens propulsion and 440 cars 8713-8842, 9103-9232, and 9803-9942 have the Alstom propulsion.
