Magnus the Greyhound - How is he now? In this video, we provide and update on our retired racing greyhound Magnus who has had some health issues recently
Poor wee boy! I hadn't kept up to date but I'm so glad he's improving. Love those hounds. My last one had trouble getting upstairs and we discovered she had cancer in her hip. Very sad. Glad Magnus is not undergoing that! XXX
I’m not a vet and I’m sure they’ve done scans but this sounds like arthritis to me. My little Chihuahua had the exact same symptoms and was found to have arthritis. She’s about 7 or so (not sure because she’s a rescue) and had some painkillers for a time and now takes a strong joint supplement daily. I have loved your videos for quite a long time and fell in love with greyhounds because of Magnus and Scout. But where I live large dogs are not allowed. So I’ve got 2 small ones! I always wish the best for Magnus and Scout and his improvement shows promise. I would suggest keeping a sweater on him at all times in Winter because my dog gets cold easily and I’ve noticed she can’t walk as much as she used to in Winter either. Lastly, I enjoy hearing your voice and miss my late Scottish beau and the happy times we spent traveling all over Scotland. He was from Greenock in the West.
Magnus and his human parents have been an inspiration for me to adopt a greyhound. I'm so happy we all are able to still enjoy seeing him. Thank you scout and Magnus for putting smiles on all of our faces
Magnus, I didn't know you weren't feeling well buddy. I'm very sorry, but I'm glad you're feeling better now. I'm sending you my very best thoughts and wishes for a full recovery! Scout, take care of your brother now ok.
Bless Magnus with all my heart, he has really been through the wars lately! As have you two with the worry of looking after him, which you do with so much love and care. We all love him on here, and wish him quality of life, as I know you two do too. Him and Scout are a team, and keep each other going. So good that he is eating again, a sure sign he is comfortable and happy now. xxx
Oh poor beautiful Magnus ❤️, wish you well real soon & back to your self . Scout is beautiful too ❤️. You do love them both & do your very best for them 😍
I'm so sorry to hear this about Magnus, but happy that he's getting better. Been thru so much with our hounds, and it sucks to see them age. The cone of shame is the worst! Healing thought for Magnus and looking forward to more updates!
Lost my beloved greyhound Vulcan to bone cancer last October he was 5 years so know how hard it is when they not well but we went and adopted a new one now called Blinder and we love him so much
Oh I hope he will regain quality of life with the treatment, the races took their toll on their health…it’s so funny to see them always snuggle up in the tiniest corner for a few Sun Rays 😂..my Boy always looks at me and complains when a cloud comes by and his sunbathing in the living room is disturbed 😂..best wishes for Magnus..❤
Awww...glad to hear he's getting better and healthy again.. We've had a couple over the years including our current one who have had to undergo a toe amputation. That's not a fun task to keep them from chewing on the surgery area . We use a muzzle and have a guard designed to fit inside it made for poop eaters (called a stool guard) that I drilled some holes in. Zip-tied it inside the muzzle and it still allows them to drink water with the muzzle on during the healing period. Good luck Magnus!!
My Greyhound Hattie had the same problem with her back. I think it could have been due to an old racing injury. She'd yelp when she got down from the sofa. Poor Magnus please make a big fuss of him and Scout for me.
Magnus looks so beautiful at the 2:10 mark. Thanks for loving him so much❤🧡💚💜❣ My Mabel has been dealing with some apparent soft tissue injury to her from left shoulder. Several months of Carpofen, Dasaquin and Cosequin and buckets of TLC seem to have her on the mend.
what a worry you have been for the family .............glad to hear your issues are slowly healing......one day at a time mate,,,sending lots of healing love. 💕💕💕
I had no idea Magnus hadn't been well! Back injuries are so tough on them but glad to see he's on the mend. Good boy wearing a muzzle too - they have no idea that licking can be a disaster. Love & hugs to you Magnus, Scout & family
Bless him, what a beautiful boy. Glad to see you spoiling him and Scout. Our 2 always got the roasting tin to "deal with" on Sundays 😋🐾🐾. They would also put on a proper dramatical debacle with the cone of shame, scooping and scraping everything in sight. I'm convinced it was deliberate to prove a point. Perhaps it's a greyhound thing. Wishing Magnus a speedy and full recovery ❤
I have also had minor injuries to deal with with my grey. 4 leg fully covering, and near or on the foot... human socks washed and put on loose with a 1cm strip of double sided velcro to make a 2 wrap band for around the sock to keep it on. Loose and breathable but secure not to be pulled off. Even wrap the top of the sock blocking any disgruntled pup from taking it off or using human sports tape kinda springy and only sticks to it's self but to take the socks off every potty break uses lots of tape and velcro is a small purchase. My grey has figured out that her head is smaller than the cones collar and won't tolerate the cone either. Thanks for the video.
Well wishes for both the pups. It's so hard to see them in pain. Our senior dog's arthritis and spondylosis have been helped tremendously with Rimadyl and Adequan. We learned to give intramuscular injections of Adequan at home to save on the stress of going into the clinic. It's given our boy his mobility and his love of life back. YMMV, but in case that's something your vet might consider, I wanted to share our experience. Good luck, friend.
Magnus you and I are a health mess. So thankful you are better. He looked cute in his “Elizabethan Collar”. Muzzle looks uncomfortable. Sad to see him struggling. How old is Magnus? Magnus does the “pre wash” at your house our dogs do the same at our house. At 79 I am happy to be upright too. Speedy recovery, Magnus❣️
Glad he is recovering. Hated learning he was ill! Sweet puppy. Kiss him for me. When we still lived in Minnesota, my Daphne got Arthritis. Had the house reconfigured so we could both sleep downstairs and our next home in FL was one story. No way of sleeping without my BFF!
Lovely to see Magnus and beautiful Scout. So glad Magnus is on the mend! Have you ever considered hydrotherapy? It did wonders for the mobility of one of our pups. All the very best.
Was it an herniated disc in his back? My boy slipped a disc in his neck, which affected his front left leg - and was yelping awfully when trying to put weight on it.
@@magnusgreyhound Poor lad. Depending on where the disc is, it can affect 1 or both front legs - and 1 or both rear legs. My regular vet could not pin point what the issue was - so after a couple of days, he had to go to see a specialist and they did an MRI of his brain and spine from skull to tail - and saw the slipped disc between 5th & 6th cervical vertebrae. Thankfully they managed to treat it with extremely strong drugs and an hospital stay - as he would probably be too old for spinal surgery. But it was still a very long recovery time. 1 month on strict bed rest - and then a further month under "house arrest". Then 3 x 5 minute walks a day - building up over 7 weeks..
Our greyhound has cauda equina syndrome, it's a disease that greyhounds sadly get a lot because of their long backs and narrowing of the spinal canal results in compression of the spinal nerve roots. When the nerve gets inflammed it is really painful. My girl Rosie had a course of metacam and she has Physiotherapie every week and she's doing great. She will be 12 in a few months. I am grateful of having a great vet who knew what she could have and have the right xrays done.
Since you are open to acupuncture for Magnus, perhaps you might look into veterinary chiropractic? I noted there is one in Bo'ness, in central Scotland. I am so glad Magnus is feeling better!🥰
What size (dimensions) is your dog crate please? Been told to get over at least 120cm for our new retired hubs, but biggest I can find easily is 90cm long. Glad Magnus is on the mend!

Greyhounds are such lovely, gentle dogs and they never complain. It's hard to see them struggling; but so glad Magnus is getting better.
