"Hex flower" 100% sounds like an alchemical ingredient.

Very inventive way to generate a random map with transitions built in.

That's a very cool mini-game. Very interesting. I will have to play with that a bit to fully understand it's implications. It seems quite clever.

@@AJPickett Sure, if I play with it and come to some conclusion, I'll tell you about it. Or I'll make a video of it.
My first instinct would be to make a character's skills or roleplay matter in if you roll on the way up or down.
Maybe I would also make multiple exit points with different outcomes (kind of the "no and, no, no but, yes but, yes, yes and philosophy).
I'll try to play with it when I have time.

I use these in most of my games now for different purposes. To determine to rain to create random encounters that still lead in a particular direction and other such scenarios, my current favourite use is to make travel through the nests in the domains of dread more interesting.

Wow nice mechanic wonder if some of the random table engines online use some of that same logic in their code.

I like how A. J. uses a court case to help explain how to do Hex Flowers. That was fun. I admit I never got around to looking up or asking whether Objection sustained is good, bad or just par for the course. Also, I admit I had a comment and a follow up here earlier this morning but deleted them because I made a comparison that I should have known and did know was faulty but at the time couldn't resist lightheartily bringing it up. Being embarrassed I deleted it. Only the second time I deleted a UA-cam comment so far. That other time on another channel I deleted it early too before too much time had passed because I wasn't sure I agreed fully with my statement after all, and it was too sloppily written or some other problem. I guess I was babbling or some other flaw. I usually don't like to delete a comment I make if too many people have already read it. But if it's still early on its fair game. And if it's a comment I should stick with or apologize for all the more reason to keep it up in order to humble myself and respect everyone else. Thank you all for letting me have my say here. Appreciated very much.

This is a variation of a random walk. A lot of the maths for this have been worked out, so you can just plug values into a formula.

Love this. It's a great idea with lots of applications. Too bad certain major game companies don't have any ideas this original or useful these days, but prefer to pander and manipulate and well, you know.

FYI: The applications of the core mechanic here extend beyond gaming to the modeling of the thermal motion of atoms and the fluctuations of stock prices.

You should make 7 the only single number, and pair the 12 with 11 (changing everything else accordingly).
2 D6 do not have even probability.
A D12/2 or D6 would be more even probable.

    • @jasonalen7459
      @jasonalen7459 5 місяців тому

I don't understand how that would work. How does everything else change accordingly? You'd need to pair 10 with 2 or 6 with 8 or so on. Did you mean 6 should be the only single number, rather than 7?

The navigation key is set up that way to give a slight trend to the left of the flower. Better result on the left and worst result on the right. The cookbook explains this. You can set the key up how ever you want to suit your needs.

@@AJPickett Hey, AJ! Thanks for taking the time to respond. To be honest I don't actually PLAY DnD. I'm just into the lore. So when you start doing stuff that at least seems, based on the titles of your videos lately, to be totally gameplay based I kinda lose interest... I know that's just me, but like with Warhammer 40k, I think there's a lot more people into just hearing the lore then there are who actually own a giant table and paint minis...
