although I know it wasn't intentional here, there are ways to throw your opponent on purpose(within the rules of course) that can increase their risk of injury forcing them to fall a certain way on their back, neck, or base out with their arms, which can create openings for submissions. it's a viable strategy. Definitely good for tournaments. just be careful when doing it in the gym.
that new wave standing tactic of front hand collar ties is HORRIBLE against pixley who sets everything off of that. The second Meregali decided to stand with pixley it was over

I've been practicing Silat and Escrima since 1993. I've been to a couple BJJ schools. I'm always overqualified. I know a lot of takedowns and armlocks from Silat.
I was there, it was right in front of me. Pixley beat him up the whole match. It was a dominant performance. And Meregali didn't hurt his own shoulder, Pixley dislocated that shoulder with his technique and deserves the credit for it.

Obviously Meregali is leagues ahead of Pixley but let’s not forget Pixley had already thrown Meregali once earlier and nearly gotten a pass before points. And even if Meregali didn’t post when he got thrown, he likely would’ve conceded 2 takedown points anyway. Meregali massively overlooked Pixley and it cost him. I would hope he wouldn’t do that if they ever face each other again.
