I use these two notions all the time! The needle dome is wonderful to load and then stitch down a binding in the car. It was a game changer when a friend showed me several years ago. Thanks for sharing this video.

Will these two gadgets work for thicker needle and thread like for cross stitch or sashiko?

Yes they do. They won't work for those super large needles, like knitters use to sew in ends but otherwise they work great.
