Outty max xt 650 2020 1100km on it so far, loving it, only issue being the brake pads are really cheap and the 650 have no filter on the air intake, it's a very easy and cheap mod to install. Performance is great, love the engine, styling, utility, I plow my driveway in the winter with it, can am have tons of accessories... I have stock 26 inch ITP terracross tires and it's great, only weakness is deep mud (every tires will as seen on this video) or ice. I might go for studded tires next winter. As for the max chassis, I love it, I did bring a passenger a couple times, while the seat is comfy, you do have to slowdown in difficult terrain for passenger comfort but I find that even if I go alone I like to have the rear seat to rest on it when we stop and the passenger footstep are nice for deep water crossing :)
I mean if you really wanted to you could just buy an xt 1000 with the regular chassis and just add the xmr stuff onto it, impractical but you can do it
He did fun it he’s just embarrassed. Getting the biggest and longest isn’t always better especially for mud. Them long ones are more for couples you know like old ones that like sight seeing together.
Keep it in low range when going slower then 50 you will blow the belt or clutch it can’t suck in air to cool belt down when in high range I do 70 in low on my can am never blew my belt it’s got 4400 on stock belt

The 1000 xmrs are nice but I’m not a fan of the max chassis therefore I went 850 and have no regrets

To save your belt I would ride in low any time it’s not hard packed dirt. I have a can am myself and we ride at river rancho and hog Waller a lot
