  • The 3,4,5 triangle uses fairly simple math which can be used for all sorts of things. And yep it is Pythagoras but don't let that scare you...

Thank you very much for explaining the 3 4 5 principle. I've known about and indeed used it many times but never understood the theory behind it . Pity that you weren't my maths teacher some 60 odd years ago .

Another practical application for this is selecting sling lengths for rigging loads to be lifted. Simply use the 4 in the vertical position and the 3 in the horizontal position. Your lower angle will be about 37 degrees while your upper will be 53 which are both considered safe angles for sling loading.

You sir are an inspiration. I could (and will) watch lots more of your videos. Although I do complex maths at work, it always involves some kind of tool that works it all out, however I have always had a mental block with basic arithmetic. Your content will help millions of people like me develop.

You can also use the square root of 2 to find a right angle. Also used in the electrical world.

It's can be perfectly scaled... but, not perfectly measured. A perfect 90 degree angle, by this method... is in reality...only a Platonic dream.

You have a perfect triangle. In the real world it could be off. How do you adjust it for 5. Do you move the 3 line or the 4 line to get the 5. Thanks.
