It's funny - early on it was really lucky - I think 3 in a row - after that I was actually quite lucky just with the boards and wasn't noticing the clover as much because I was firing multiple heroes quickly...gotta take the good with the bad though lol, you know it's coming sooner or later!

Great question Daron! It all comes down to the enemy team...I generally like to try and counter their skills to control the battle, sooner or later the tiles will come to either kill with tile damage or get the kills with specials. With some of the tanks and defense's these days though, huge minions, boosted health, sometimes it warrants 4-1 just to make sure you're getting the high tile damage and specials charged at the same time to take advantage. My main reason for 3-1-1 is really to keep the battle going longer to set it up for myself - usually the 1-1 will be support / healer heroes so if I'm not getting my main colours I can hand around long enough to set things up. It is very difficult with some of the defense's though - which is why people often go 4-1 or even mono to try and break through. For me it mostly comes down to who is on the enemy team and how to counter... A simple example is an enemy team that doesn't have healers - I'd probably go rainbow or 2-1-1-1 with a few different healing options to keep me alive, knowing that without heals the enemy will slowly get picked off as long as I can stay alive.

I think 4-1 may help you in that situation, it allows for higher tile damage whilst still allowing you the 1 slot for additional support to stay alive if you haven't got your main colour showing up.
