There are mustard cover crops (not the kind we grow to eat) that can be mowed over and chopped up then immediately tilled into the soil and it will control root knot nematodes.
We used to plant winter rye grass around our deer stands. I had some orange flavored hard candy in my pocket and dropped a piece getting up the ladder in my deer stand one morning. After dawn I heard crunching and a big bunny had found the candy and ate it. Ha!
I just got a large package of Dutch white clover seeds and another package of 4 packs of clover mixes and various other lawn cover crops for bees. Some of it I`ve never heard of. I use all my grass clippings for enriching my garden & fruit tree soil and for mulch and the clover will add back the nitrogen I`m removing from the lawn and attract bees. The drought and heat last year killed the clover here.
