I rewatched BB and TDK the other day. I'd forgotten how much warmth and humor was in Bruce and Alfred's relationship. Caine and Bale were fantastic. Makes a few of the scenes is Rises all the more heart wrenching (I may have blubbed in the cinema during Alfred's resignation). Alfred Pennyworth, you deserve a medal or a knighthood!
Probably off topic, but fun fact about Christian Bale: Despite having played New Yorkers (knowing how Gotham is basically New York), he’s actually Welsh. It may say that he’s English when you look him up, but he’s Welsh.
"Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up" Amazing quote I've loved. My interpretation of it (which can be different to yours) is that you WILL make mistakes, you are not perfect, but if you see and acknowledge your failures you can grow and become better. How you start is not important, it's how you end.
Slight nit pick: Thomas Wayne made the "why do we fall ?"quote to a young Bruce Wayne. Alfred as his pseudo father is the only person who can repeat it.
Michael Caine's Alfred is easily the best version in the franchise, his version had the most character development and his chemistry with Christian Bale enhanced his portrayal in the movies!
This entire trilogy have all the best castings they could possible do for these characters, from the magnificent Morgan Freeman and Lucius Fox, the legendary Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, to Sir Michael Caine impossible to beat Alfred Pennyworth....there is just so many amazing quotes, scenes and incredible performances in this trilogy that will be impossible for any Batman film in the future to beat this 3 films.
@@samuilvalchev3803 His joker was good because of him, had it been almost any other iconic villan played the same way, it would also have been good. Most consider the joker to be different than Heath's portrayal however, like Mark Hamill's joker (and similar versions).
Tbh! I can’t understand what the heck went wrong after this trilogy for Batman Franchise… they had and still could’ve outdone Marvel big time but no they had to ruin it all. This trilogy is the best thing happen to DC universe 🥰
" Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn." - Alfred
The entire saga trilogy is loaded with brilliant casting choices. Caine was epic. These lines, and the entire monologues they come from. I love how he refers to their mistakes as "trying to outsmart the truth." Showing the folly in it, and that he understands he's made his own. And of course, the "watch the world burn" quote is a piece of history by now. From an amazing monologue. It was heart-breaking, that he had to spend time thinking Bruce was dead. To watch Alfred suffer like that, after so much dedication. Fortunately, for us that bitterness only lasts a few moments. He gets his wish fulfilled. He knows Bruce is now finally moving on to a better life, after doing so much for others. Batman wouldn't be half the powerhouse he is, without Alfred by his side. Wise, steadfast.
I always felt like Michael Caine was the natural choice to step into Dumbledore's shoes after Richard Harris' death. He has this authoritative, grandfatherly warmth that just feels right.
Does anyone think otherwise? Nolan's Alfred is the most fleshed-out cinematic Alfred we've ever seen. He was the central emotional pillar with some of the best lines in the whole trilogy. Caine was set up to succeed with this, but he not only succeeded, he gave us the most iconic Alfred ever.
Its sad, because I really think Jeremy Irons could do an amazing Alfred, the little we got from him was excellent, but sadly under the awful hands of Goyer and Snyder, it was impossible for him to equal this amazing performance of Sir Michael Caine.....I wonder if Nolan would have directing him as Alfred how different things would have been.
The thing is we had no emotional connection with Irons Alfred and Bruce. Just them arguing. Looked as if he was a politician or chief of police and not someone who did not care for him since he was a little boy
The casting in this trilogy is superb. Morgan freedman outstanding, Michael Caine perfect, Heath ledger what do I need to say, Aaron eckhart amazing, Gary oldman, Christian Bale, Tom hardy, liam neeson and cillian Murphy all outstanding
What made him the absolute best wasn't just his Masterful Acting, but the fact that he served in Combat for the 1st Fusiliers in Korea which left him with some mental scarring on how easily Communist China and North Korea would throw away Lives as if their soldiers were nothing but scraps off of their plates. His "World Burning" Speech was literally genuine as his Beliefs were from personal experience
No they wouldn't, lmfao. You can say all you want about China, but their red army from the revolution onwards was a scrappy, resilient, and highly effective fighting force that gave Westerners hell to deal with.

Michael Caine's Alfred is the only Alfed I can picture that would have spent his younger days running around with the likes of David Stirling and Paddy Mayne.
Michael Crane’s Alfred represents the love of a parent who watched his troubled son grow up and a mentor. Sean Pertwee’s Alfred represents a parent trying to help out a troubled child. I feel like both of these Alfred’s are the same, but in different time periods.
