I have a sneaking suspicion that he took that damage from the wall on purpose to force himself to be slower and make the race more interesting. A driver like that does not just accidentally sideswipe a wall.

The sort of thing car #8 did always amazes me... Ppl want to stick to the racing line even when there is someone there - car #2 was on the left in that particular instance... C'mon ppl, cars won't magically disappear! 😂
I must admit I hate seeing these super aggressive dives (especially so early) as I do love a good close clean fight between multiple racers! But you and Jules had some great fun with just you two in the end. Amazing work, Dave! You can't beat 'em all 😅 Catch ya on the next one 👌
The race I did this morning had Jules in it! He won by 4 seconds haha.

Came back to re-watch this after a year into my SIM career. Interesting to watch this race with a different prospective now that I've been racing hard for a year straight. 2 things:
1. I'm going back to race MX5 some today. This made me miss it.
2. Less than 30 seconds into race CoachD compliments this driver's move, noticed just how hard he was gonna be to pass. Lol.
To be fair, you guys are all rapid ok colds 😂 INCREDIBLE!!
Incredible to see someone in the top split acting that way. Then again they are only 2.3k and don't truly belong in a "top" split, and it shows.
Also, 17:31 was a questionable block...
Very good race but he did have a couple of "swerving" incidents but he did place his car in a way that would make it very hard to pass. Good stuff. Thanks for the content.
That's how you know he's the real deal. Skirt the line between fair and dirty with precision. He did move under braking a couple of times but never to an egregious level that a steward would start yelling over. Just barely enough to help defend. It's a skill in itself.
I raced Barrichello's son a few days ago, he was outrageously quick around charlotte. Also an F4 driver
Andretti Turn on cold tires right after start always makes me SUPER nervous. Ran my first x0 Incident race win last night on this track.

I can't belive the pace on that race though. I ran a race yesterday Dave with a 1:37:343 it was the fastest lap I've ever ran. Linked my optimized up on a lap, that whole lobby is under 139s lap after lap. MIND BLOWING to me just how much faster everyone in MX5 is. I've been driving this car for a month straight never any less than 5 hours a day. Usually 7-8hours.
I was in one of the lower splits on this one, and that turn 1 incident was tame compared to some of the horrors down there 😂

Great driving I managed to get a few wins in the rookies but so many bad drivers but any way I got a best time of 1:39.7**
He was blocking by weaving. That's cheating. One move is all that's allowed.
You did pass him tho. Just did not defend as hard as he did, once your were in the lead. Maybe the script for this one could've been different 🤗

What a turd #6 is. Killed two people just to spin himself out later on. They should make people like that absorb ALL the incident points from the accidents they've caused

Your only way was to do what he did to you and straight line the entry into turn 4, it was the only corner he didn't defend fully.
Tell you what, if you defend like that in a 1.5K race the guy behind will punt you off and then blame you for it! 😂

Think part of that is down to the person he’s racing too. If they can defend like that they are gunna scrub speed. Allowing Dave to stay with him. Dave kept his lines brilliant. Tried every move he could. But he just had the defense down to a tea.

With someone who is defending like he did at Laguna Seca your only chance is to force him to defend coming to the last turn which would force him wide coming out and you make a switch back coming out which would put you on the inside going into turn 1. Do it coming to the white flag. I did it to Matt Malone at Laguna Seca in the GR86

I imagine I'll be alone on this island, but pro driver or not, as I've said many times, some people don't know anything besides blocking . . . . Effective blocking, and mostly not erratic blocking, but still blocking.

As always a great video. If you want to, would you give us a little update to your sim rig? Espacially the screens and your pc hardware. I´m still struggling which screens to buy. Screens are the same as before. I'm using the Asetek Invictas wheelbase. Maybe another time for a rig video 😁

Cracker of a race Dave. He defended well but you drove amazingly well to keep the pressure on, drive real close and totally avoid contact. Not an easy feat, especially at Laguna!

Can't wait to start driving some faster cars. Just hit D class and bought a Mercedes GT4 hvnt even had the chance to get to know it yet. Idk where to go now that I just hit D class
@@marksutherlandjr.2121 do the GR86 series it’ll get you up to c license then you can do the Porsche cup and eventually get the good stuff the GT3 races.

How are you shifting in the mx5? I watched ur video about auto clutch and have mapped a button for the ff1600. You don't seem to be lifting throttle or engaging clutch.
No clutch needed in the mx5 although I'm manually blipping just to make the downshifts a little smoother and to stop the car rotating too much 👍

empty handed, scratching his head! There's no shame in keeping a 'real' driver honest and coming off 2nd best, great drive!
Crackin' race from both drivers. Superb defending from Jules and Dave as always understating his own talent. To be able to apply pressure like that, lap after lap, in close proximity with both cars on the limit, takes some talent. Well driven Dave.

I won my first here in road the other day in the gr86 raced from 15 to 1st. It’s such a fun track. That guy was def a champ. That was a good race.
Good to see karma strike the lap 1 divebomber. Nice drive but also had the feel of the cat playing with its food to keep things interesting. Impressive stuff and nice to always see there is someone faster out there to aim for

That’s awesome you won your first ever iRacing race! I did as well, also in an MX5. It wasn’t at Laguna Seca though. A bunch of people crashed out and I won by 58 seconds 😂

Where's Jules?
I always get confused when I see fights like these. According to iRacing rules, he's blocking you (you're not allowed to make ANY reactive defensive maneuvers) and should be penalized, but according to "general" racing rules where you're allowed 1 reactive defensive move, it was all "perfect". 17:29 for reference
For me he made just one move heading towards the turn. If he then went right I'd say that's a block. I don't consider what he did to be blocking.
The way he got back through after you passed him was surprising. Was just kinda - bang - and he was past.
