    I loved the urban sombrero moment! I really appreciated your message about making room for the things you love, so that you feel like yourself while you are abroad and about bringing clothes that give you a good energy. I'm thinking about trying merino wool, but I'm worried it might feel itchy. Also that power strip and adapter combo is genius!

      Thanks for watching. I'm glad you loved the urban sombrero moment. Merino Wool is unlike any other wool. It's not itchy and it's super soft. Just make sure the clothing you choose is 100% merino (or blend with no other wool). I really love my Unbound Merino shirt. Shawn loves his Wool & Prince, Outlier, and Western Rise merino shirts. Icebreaker are decent but we prefer to support small business when we can.

      For this video, the osmo is sitting on a shelf. The focus is sometimes off since I didn’t use the phone attachment to check. We recently bought a tripod in Malaysia at a mall. The tripod is OK, a bit heavy but does the job for our other videos.

      Thanks for the recommendation! Do you find the waist strap sturdy enough to carry the load? Have you been hassled at the airport to check the bag?

      @@DaysWeSpend I'm 5' and I have an Osprey Tempest 38 in XS that I originally bought for hiking trips. The waist straps are truly wonderful and have a major impact on the weight distribution. The only thing I don't love about the bag is that since it is a hiking bag, it has a lot of straps and steps to open it. I remember trying one from Vaude that fitted me well and was better suited for travel. I kinda regret not getting this one.

    • @arlenealennox3136

      I have not flown with the Porter 30 yet, but I have flown to Europe and to New Zealand with the Osprey Celeste 29 liter with no hassle at the airport. The Celeste’s waist strap is less substantial than the Porter’s but I found it adequate for the job. I do keep the weight below 12 lbs., however.

    I loved your video!! A few things - mosquitoes won’t bite you if you take vitamin B12. You have to take it for 6 month first before it starts working, but it really does work - i never get bitten on camping trips. Also - im glad to see that you like essential oils. Lavender will soothe a sunburn as well as any kind of burn. If you can get a hold of some tea tree and geranium they will fix up any kind of infection pretty quick. I had a bad spider bite that got really infected and a few drops of each a few times a day - it was like a mieacle - it also cures MRSA. I could go on all night, but thats a good start for traveling. I hope you really enjoy the rest of your trip. 💖

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  7 місяців тому

      Great questions. We put all of our remaining belongings in a storage unit in NYC. We each set out on our RTW trip with 2 backpacks - mine were the one in this video and my 24 L camino backpack. Our Camino started about 2 weeks into the trip. So we shipped our larger bags to Santiago via pilgrim post. After the camino, we swapped a few things out and then shipped our camino bags and gear to the USA. After that, we each had one bag.

    One of the best what to pack videos. I can’t believe you fit all that in a 30L! I am short like you and find the merino tees are super long (personality hate that), can you suggest any merino tees for petites?

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much! It helps that I'm short, so my clothes and shoes pack up smaller. The only issue with this much stuff (it felt like too much sometimes) was that it was heavy!
      For merino tees, there's only one brand that I've tried that is cut shorter. Unbound Merino (the black shirts in this video) are the shortest ones. They're great shirts, super durable, and still look amazing. The x-small is almost 2 inches shorter than the small. I like them both depending on if I want a tighter fit or a shorter fit. However, the company isn't currently making their women's line. They stopped during the pandemic. Their website says they are relaunching the line soon! unboundmerino.com/pages/womens-line-coming-soon
      The almost every other brand is long. All of my Icebreaker and Ridge Merino shirts run very long (which I like, personally).

    Thank you for the video! I am about to go on 1 month trip to 3 different countries. I was planning to just do a carry on as well but I am having trouble staying under 15 pounds. I was wondering if you ever experienced getting your bag weighed whenever you go on flights?

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  5 років тому +5

      Thanks for watching. My bag is definitely not under 15 pounds, but it looks small. There’s a few airlines that don’t care at all. AirAsia never weighs the bag or measures. We looooove flying them because they are so easy. Just make sure to print your boarding pass at the kiosk.
      Any airline that makes you check in at the counter is going to weigh your bag. It suuuuper sucks. These are usually budget airlines. Vietjet, ThaiLion Air, Cebu Pacific (there are a few more but we haven’t flown them). When I do have to weigh my bag, I wear all my shirts, all my pants, all my sweaters, stuff my rain jacket pockets full of heavy items, and I put my laptop in the waistband of my pants. Seriously. It’s terrible. But it works.
      Bottom line, if the bag looks small, you can get away with a lot.
      Word of warning, Vietjet even made me take off my fanny pack and weigh it.

    Do you find the Xero sandals comfortable enough for all day temple and market touring in places like Chiang mai and Bangkok. I love my barefoot shoes, but am questioning whether I’d love them while walking on concrete all day for a week.

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  5 років тому +4

      Hi Mandy, I have the Z Trail Xero Sandal which does have a nice amount of cushion. It’s a very “friendly” barefoot sandal. Other barefoot sandals don’t have any cushion, which would definitely hurt on concrete. I currently wear these sandals non-stop. I even hiked down cliffs in these in Nusa Penida.
      They’re a great option, but it does take time for your foot to adapt to the sandal. Strong feet and ankles take time to develop. I have a pair of barefoot sneakers I use (with my orthotic inserts) for long hiking days. However, these Xero sandals have more cushion than my sneakers.
      How frequently do you wear your barefoot shoes? Ultimately, a good travel shoe/sandal is comfortable for you!
      Also, walking on concrete in any shoe for a week is going to hurt.
      I’m going to make a video with more details on these sandals. Stay tuned for that (hopefully soon since our internet upload speed is currently really slow).
      -Lainey

    • @mandysavoy2924
      @mandysavoy2924 5 років тому +2

      @Around/Lainey, thank you! That’s very helpful!
      I have a pair of vivobarefoot sneakers and a pair of Xero casual boots. I’m a stay at home mom and spend a lot of time barefoot. If I’m going out I try to wear my barefoot shoes, but occasionally I’ll wear a non-barefoot shoe if my outfit doesn’t jive with the barefoot shoes I have.
      That was exactly my concern, that a barefoot sandal wouldn’t have enough cushion for walking/standing on concrete all day, since most of the barefoot sandals I’ve seen have no cushion.
      I’ll check out the Xero sandals you have! Thanks again!

    I have been watching several "Packing a carry-on bag" on youtube but there is no way all of them don´t pack over 7kg, which is the carry-on limit on most asian airlines.

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  2 роки тому +1

      It is way over 7 kg. We typically fly airlines that are not budget. AirAsia lets you print your own boarding pass and if the bag looks small, they won't make you weigh it.
      All else fails, twice I wore all my clothes to get the bag under the 7 kg limit. It's not great, but it did work.

      Fabulous tips. For me extra hsrd for long trip as need to take stock of inhalers as asthmatic and 1 inhaler is just too costly to buy as you go.. this time will try to just take detached med itself with just 1 container as otherwise would fill so much of bag. Plus standby tablets etc..Often feel meds should not have to form part of weight! Aiming for 7 kg max in 30l bavkpack. Will be a challenge for summer winter..

    It gives me anxiety that your clothes are super creased .. considering you were not slumming it in hostels you could have kept your clothing in good condition.. You keep mentioning you are a dancer..are you professional?? or do you mean you just like dancing? those large shoe bags take up a great deal of space in a tiny pack, covering shoes with shower caps is a brilliant way to take up virtually no extra space but still do the job well.. shoes need to be packed sole to sole and heel to toe for hygiene,protection of the shoe and the smallest profile for packing .. the secret to not stinky clothes is to wash them lol! you need to roll your clothes neatly and tightly... those cubes are huge and bulky especially as you literally shoved things in them!
