  • Capturing derelict parts in space is a quick way to make some cash. That is, as long as you don't have to launch a new ship every time!
    The versatile Pod Grabber docks with a supply vessel to install a Capture Module. Then, after capturing the targeted space junk, the Pod Grabber drops the module into Kerbin's atmosphere.
    Then, a quick rendezvous with the supply vessel and it's ready for the next target!

    I made this exact thing like 6 months ago! It even had the disposable claw/parachute system. The only difference is that it was a smaller form factor

    nice ship design, I liked the cockpit leaned to the back of the ship, very original and nice. It gives me Padme Amidala Royal Naboo ship vibes

      @@KSPCinema-K very aesthetic pleasant. I wonder if the pilot has a space cot to inhabit in between missions.

      @victor_silva6142 Not in the ship, but there are a few space stations nearby when he needs a break!

    And then you YEET the pod

    I feel your system should be 100% robotic, using a much lighter rendezvous stage; robot arm+chute stage could provide deceleration with separatrons after acquisition and stage of the rendezvous module

      @MrFranklitalien That's a good idea, using Seperatons to decelerate the payload! Thanks, I'll try that for sure!
      There's a reason for the pilot, however. A pilot gets transferred to the captured pod, which is temporarily released. The pilot then engages SAS Prograde, Radial Out, or whatever, to orient the drifting pod for re-capture.
      Those stranded Pods never have probe cores, so a pilot needs to do the job. Otherwise, wonky payloads make wonky orbital transfer burns!

    so they're semi-disposable?

    • @KSPCinema-K
      @KSPCinema-K  3 дні тому

      @JNJNRobin1337 Well, kind of! But the pod and its cargo do land safely and get recovered. And then the spacecraft gets another pod, ready for the next recovery job!
