    I feel like I am taking my trip again a few weeks back, was at Komsomolskaya before taking Sapsan to St Petersburg lol...beautiful metro stations. You are right, riding the metro all day is a tourist attraction by itself. I took Economy Plus on Sapsan which is a ham and cheese roll and tea, coffee and little goodies paper bag, very cool and very comfortable train. As a relatively new viewer, so curious if you are one of these bloody lucky people who can just eat and eat and not put on weight..very envious!

    Taking a long journey through Russia on a train is so much fun. When I was adopted at the age of seven we took several trains because my adoptive parents took me on a tour of my home country, places that I had never seen before. And we slept in the train (aka we had a cabin). And then we would obviously get hotel rooms too.

       @Hulk Smash Main cities in tourist's cites now look better, than in 80's-90's, but smaller ones are not something most of us are proud of. Even in Saint-Peterburgh, where I live, our street is a very dirty place, where trash are not transported regulary and in a right time. Also, we still don't have sorting trash habit and infrastructure here, while in Irkutsk goverment already applied sorting into three categories. Russia in trash-managment can be still better than today's India or most countries in Afrika , but much worse, than Northern Europe, USA, Canada and Japan.
      Our metros ...Older stations - yes,thanks to Soviet Union, which made sure that infrastructure is working well for 99.99% of common people and glorified techological and cultural progress very much.. But modern stations looks not that gorgeous.
      As for prettiness, every corner of the world has charms of it's own. Earth is amazing planet compared to most known parts of the Universe.

      Eyen Nordic Thanks for sharing that, and you are correct. Here in America certain inter cities look absolutely horrible, like in Detroit Michigan/Chicago Illinois/Reno Nevada and many more. Homeless people in numerous inter city states as well.

    • @Tetradepodmelontea
      @Tetradepodmelontea 4 роки тому +2

      I talked about Russia mostly. Some cities in Usa can be dirty to social issues, but mostly USA is very clean compared to Russia. We also have troubles with litter disposal - hills and hills of litter poisoning natural enviroment or burned with an open flame, resulting in toxic gases, spreading around. In Russia, scientists know cold technologies that can prevent litter from burning into toxic gases fractions, but they can't do much, because trash mafia companies do not want to change their ways.

    Russian metros ( especially ones in Petersburg and Moscow) are architectural wonders. I took an express train back in 2003. I think it took me around 8 hours. Nothing like travelling alone in Russia and looking at the beautiful winter landscape.
    Petersburg was home away from home. I studied there. It is the most beautiful city in the world!

    Amenity kit on a train?! Omg! And yeah, that little grey “puck” with the sponge in it was shoe polishing kit. I’ve seen such kits many times as advertisement souvenirs in various expos (mostly travel expos) I’m guessing it can come in handy for someone wearing some more fancy leather shoes and wanting to or needing to polish their shoes up a bit before an important meeting or something. Polishing shoes was definitely more common in the past, these days I guess not that many do it any longer, unless wearing some fancy leather shoes which you’d mostly see on businessmen in suits 🤔 Either way, very thoughtful with amenity kit on just a train! I haven’t even seen that in first class on trains I’ve been on, not even in first class on a Chinese sleeper train... Have had meal served at the seat though in first class, for an additional fee (but was worth it when going to my hometown for a weekend visit and going straight from work and facing at least about 4 hours or so of travel)
