Clear a layer and dig down 3 then clear that layer. This way you can get chests from the middle 2 layers you didn't dig out.
and dont dig on the north٫ south٫ west٫ and east side walls because if u mine only in the middle you can see whats on the walls to increase speed

You can also hold down left click and alt+tab, which makes the game mine for you
