  • Join us on a picturesque journey through the charming streets of Greenwich Village in New York City as we spend a delightful morning at Max Gordon Corner with two talented artists, Larry Lane and Ian Fennelly. Larry, the architect, and Ian, the artist, each bring their unique styles and perspectives to the world of sketching and watercolor, and they have a plethora of tips and tricks to share with you.
Larry Lane, with his background in architecture, brings a precision and attention to detail that's truly captivating. His sketches offer a structured, almost blueprint-like approach that adds an intriguing twist to urban landscapes. In this video, Larry shares his techniques for capturing the intricate architectural details of Greenwich Village's historic buildings.
Ian Fennelly, on the other hand, is a free-spirited artist whose sketching style is all about capturing the essence and character of a place. He breathes life into his sketches with vibrant watercolors, using loose lines and washes that beautifully convey the energy and ambiance of the Village. As he films for a NYC sketching workshop (here's a link to his workshop website: www.urbansketchcourse.com/urb...) , Ian offers insights into his artistic process, showing you how to infuse your sketches with personality. Go to his website, urbansketchcourse.com, to take part in this workshop being prepared for you during the taping of this video.

@@UrbanSketchPad-cx1ep I'm a beginner at this. Just learning, and trying some stuff. I like the pen and wash, and just about any sort of watercolor. Also, acrylic on canvas. I want to do some cards for Christmas. I'm sure that I'll enjoy and learn from anything you do. Thanks. (Edit: Re topics -- I like the urban stuff. Buildings, cars, etc.)

You are so right! As I was sketching and water coloring, I saw Ian's assistants holding up shading devices. I didn't understand, until I started to edit my video - which was too late to correct - why it is so important to do so. Keep in touch and I hope to hear from you again.
