First Time Here?
Thanks for being here. I know your time is valuable, so I'll keep it short. I own a company called 4LC Studios. I do video production (weddings, commercials, and anything else that grabs our attention). This youtube channel and everything I post is about the journey. I love sharing what I'm learning, how I'm growing, and how I'm failing. I hope you'll follow my journey and be a part of the conversation. - Наука та технологія
Who needs a 3 year course in videography when you have this video. Absolutely epic.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching.
I think you will know why you need the three years videography course only when you attended it. Really, you won't even know what you've missed, until you really start learning it.
Don't take me wrong, I'm not saying this is a bad "how to" film, it is really a good one in fact, I gave a thumb up. But this film only covered a fraction of what you will need to know when it's your turn to do it.
So, you still need that 3 year course + 3 more years experience if you are going run this business.
The internet is going to completely annihilate college in the future.
@@scottmckenna Have you ever had to deal with something getting in between the sensor and the lens? Shooting w/o knowing it's there ruining all footage?
People who make ignorant comments like this, thinking you're all set to ruin a wedding day after watching a You Tube video... SMH.
“Photographer?” “ah, videographer”... story of my life .
that dude died inside at 0:59, you will be remembered my guy.
That's so sad and funny at the same time🤣
Good thing he was wearing glasses so you don't see his tears
That's hurt.. but not bleeding
😁😁
I thought, I’ll watch for 10 mins then I stayed for the whole thing.
Thanks so much
Me too 😂💀💀
i didn’t even notice the time, i’m 45 minutes in thinking i’ve been watching for like 10 minutes
Same here
Ugh, I got instant anxiety from the moment you guys unpacked the trunk. It all came flooding back to me in an instant: the scramble, the panic, the compromised creativity on a nervously ticking clock, that sinking feeling at the end of the day hoping you got that specific moment (and in focus)...you guys are soldiers. Excellent look at how the pros do it!
Hahaha. You sound like you’ve worked the industry lol.
Scott McKenna Yeah, man. Was a good chunk of my education before shifting to other projects. I especially appreciated the political points you address on working with the vendors/bride. That applies on productions of all types. Anybody can show up with gear. It’s the people that don’t suck to be around in high stress environments that get called back. Keep killin it out there!
Heck yea.
hell yes .. that's unfortunately exactly how it is .. even if you're good at what you're doing it's a constant stress situation ... it's horrible lol
you can't pay me enough to do weddings.
Best behind the scenes on wedding videography I've seen.
Thanks for the kind words. So glad it was helpful.
Agree
I agree
@@scottmckenna It's still unbelievable how nothing got in between the lens and sensor ruining all footage unknowingly until after post. When the "God system" stops intervening preventing the footage from being ruined, the footage is gone. I assume we can only get lucky so many times. Did you ever clean sensors while on-site?
Chrys Balbz Stills and Film #facts #bestfootage I’d love to do some behind the footage coverage for you guys...? Wher are you located?
This could have been a Netflix special I was drawn in from start to finish.
I need more of this! This should be a show on Netflix lol
HAHA. Thanks David.

Man, video making deserves a reality show. I'm loving to watch this!
Oh man, this is the life of a wedding videographer. Getting there early, sorting audio, planning angles, puffing from carrying bag of tricks.... and all this before the edit starts. It's a tough, if not the toughest job of any vendor on a wedding day. Made me anxious so many times watching this... hahaha good times.
Scott, I know this is an old video you probably don‘t think about anymore, and I’m not a wedding shooter - I‘m a theatrical music director - but I watched this with fascination and learned sooo much from your attitude to people and your work and most importantly, your humanity. You’re an absolute inspiration. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your process with your subscribers!
Pablo is a character :' )
oh man this brought so many terrible memories back lmao. but i still had to watch all the way through, so relatable.
What role were you in those memories?
@@UndefinedBailiwick The bottom
Pablo's expressions is the reason I saw the whole video😂jk
this is the first 1 hour video that i watched on youtube, and it's so worth it. thank you!
Me too
hey Vsauce michael here
I wonder how much they got paid for this gig..
I also thought of Matthew Santoro... for the voice mainly
"you actually should. But I don't." Same man lol
...
love how your selling the flight over water, describe it and seeing your enthusiasm and they are just like, "ok" :)
I like how you have a designated "safe" shot. That's not always something that people consider when capturing events, either because they don't think about it, or because they don't want to sacrifice a camera/angle.
Absolutely incredible work. I was glued to my tv. The amount of communication and courtesy to your fellow vendors (even the DJ which I appreciate) is unmatched. Please post more of these! True passion throughout the entire day.
I've been filming weddings for 12 years and this is awesome to see how others work.
Was it different than the way you do it?
Holy shit those drone shots are I N S A N E
Hey thanks.
I really loved the thing that you said "you can be a winner in this business by just being very very sweet and humble" with other departments on the sets of a wedding. And else just rocks about your work. Kudos to you guys!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I watched it before filming a wedding for my friends, my first time doing anything like that. The behind the scenes really helped me with what to get/bring, what to expect on the day, what shots to think about. I shot much more low-fi than this (iPhone, lenses, gimbal, consumer drone and some small lights) so watching this also helped me know what limitations I would run into and helped me plan how to work around them. Thank you!
My anxiety went through the roof when you guys took those rings out to a dark area with tall grass where one fall of those rings could result in an intense search. Oh my heart. Wow.
Sorry about that lol
lol
24:30 the sad violin has me dead
The longer I watch this..the more interesting it becomes! The problem solving is what makes it a good watch. Gives me ideas on how to plan and shoot in the future. 1 hour well spent even in 2020. Thanks Scott!
"Be kind to people and you will always win in business"... I subscribed on the strength of that quote alone.
I would love to know how much all of this would have cost the wedding couple. What an insane amount of expensive gear, planning, coordination, and most of all... professionalism! Just a brilliant job of letting us see behind the scenes.
Started wedding videography full time this year. I'm so happy to watch this and relate to so many of the things you do. Thanks for sharing your day, Scott.
Good job coordinating. Shot my first weddings with a Hasselblad and a couple of Nikons. Lots of pressure to get it right when working with film. No going back. Chasing after your money in 3 installments is just as much fun. And yeah, the guests taking lots pics right behind you as you and after you pose the bride and groom is always fun too.
Really appreciate the insight and showcasing of you interacting with everyone. I feel like with high-stress wedding shoots like this, getting the actual shots isn't as much of a burden as talking to everyone and making sure everyone is on the same page and understands what the plan is. As well as being assertive, but friendly, with everyone and getting everyone together to get the shots that you want and know will make the film better. Great behind the scenes, thank you for making this.
"Typically i dont get her getting dressed..." lol thats a classic
11:48-11:50 :P
“I’ll have her get into a good position” 😏😏
I have never shot a wedding, but I can appreciate what you do. This is such an insightful, real, behind the scenes video that works as a "how to" also dives into the reality of working with a wedding party/client. It's very well done, extremely educational and very informational. Cheers man!
Holy shit this behind the scenes is amazing. I may have learned more watching this than some entire college courses.
You guys are rockstars! That you have the extra set of energy to do a behind-the-scenes video on top of the actual wedding video, is just remarkable to me! I salute you all from Copenhagen, Denmark!
Thanks a lot.
I can't believe I've really watched a 1h youtube video without leaving! Thanks for sharing your expertise it's really valuable, keep going!
This is really an increidble...sort of documentary into the fun, the challenges, and the struggle of filming a wedding. I really love this work and aspire to create this sort of content. :)
Thanks so much Tristan. So glad you found it helpful and enjoyable.
Love your positive energy!! Great job Scott.
MissTech Nique thanks. I always try.
I just realized I sat here for an hour watching this. Overall ~ it was very entertaining and informative. I have no regrets
So glad it was enjoyable to you Timothy
That was incredible! What a pleasure to watch a true professional handle his craft! Honestly I watched every second of this and never felt bored.
This is the BEST INTERESTING video education ever because I am a vlogger and photographer and videographer.
Glad you enjoyed it.
That was the most comprehensive and generous share of information I have ever seen. Thank you so much.. youre a gun. Such talent and professionalism is truly inspiring.
YES! they could absolutely sell this.
All I gotta say is WOW.. This was so dope...I have produced 10,000+ high level VIP and corporate live events since 1999, and you can't get a better play by play behind the scenes example than this. From the pre-planning workflow, how to properly interact with all the vendors, being nice to everyone (especially other vendors!), and with communicating goals and artistic expectations on how you would like each shot/segment/piece to come together...this is exactly how you should handle event production with a 5 star, unparalleled customer service, and utmost professional level. Bravo.
Thanks a lot for the compliments. Means a lot. We are always trying to get better at everything we do.
Your video was an hour well spent. Thanks for taking the time to create this. You and your team work your butts off. A couple of moments that stuck with me: 1) Umbrella hot shoe mount. As a fellow bald guy, I appreciate the innovation. You may want to get a patent. 2) "Be nice." You've definitely got that down and your clear communications and collaborative style really gets everyone on board. 3) Set exposure to the brightest outdoor light and leave it there. (Why haven't I thought of this?) 4) Torch LEDs. Didn't even know they exist. I'm definitively going to look into them. 5)"Keep being in love." Your drone was freaking out the photographer (ha!), but that didn't stop the love from flowing. 6) Shoot all glide cam/gimbal work in manual focus. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not sure how you can always maintain a steady distance, especially when people come dancing in. My Sony A7iii is amazing at locking focus when I use the touch screen and on the gimbal, I can never pull focus as well as the camera can follow focus. Still, as a former Nikon DSLR video shooter, I agree that manual is the way to go...in a perfect world. 7)You can only prepare so much. I'm not a wedding shooter, but I've been second cam a couple of times for a friend who does and she said the same thing. I want to be all buttoned up, but stuff happens, as they say. You've really got to be flexible. I enjoyed helping my friend shoot weddings, but I'll never have the intestinal fortitude to do it myself full time. It's pretty grueling. Thanks again for sharing this video.
Thank you Scott! For me, the best video you have published. The film is very instructive and good film quality. You have everything and it's amazing. Many thanks!
Lars-Uno Andersson super thankful that you watched. Glad it was helpful.
i would like to see the wedding vid.
i want to see how it looks. ty
the link to the wedding is in the read more section.
evildug b did you just reply to yourself?
Yea what u responded to your self
That was intense as hell! I’d hate to do weddings as I’m not a great people person, but you are a master of working with people - keeping people happy, informed and making it the best day possible for those who are paying you... and those not too - it looked effortless and Pablo clearly works so well with you - brilliant POV video from Kevin too!! Great job guys!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad it was entertaining.
Been a wedding videographer for 8 years and I can tell you this guy knows his stuff, great video!
Really appreciate the kind words Steve. Thanks.
This was an amazing docu-tutorial thank you so much! I'm shooting my first wedding soon and though my video will probably be 1/5 the duration of yours and my setup is much smaller than yours, I'll still be able to apply the tips and tools you and Pablo showed. I'm especially impressed with the audio quality of the wedding vows and the speeches. I would like to see a detailed step by step on how you configured the audio components but maybe I can find that elsewhere.
Great Eye Brother. That 10th hole lake shot was everything. Amazing
I seldom watch an entire UA-cam video this long! Worth every minute. Thank you so much for the additional effort that went into making a behind-the-scenes when you already had so much on your plate! You are a champ! Excellent work and wishing you the best in everything! Also, you got people skills!
So glad you enjoyed it.
That drone shot over the lake. Just beautiful.
This is so helpful. I appreciate your work.
IAMREMYJ so glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this video, bro! God Bless you!
I'm 16 minutes in, and I'm astonished! Very helpful behind the scenes video for wedding videographers. It gives a constructive angle on how other professionals operate! Thank you for the upload!
The level of professionalism here is just astounding! You are my hero.
Love the behind the scenes. I'm new to shooting and can't imagine this. *Phewph*.. the video is in the description. Unbelievable. Great job!
Thanks for the kind words.
Scott, you are a genius, you’ve just earned my respect ✊🏽
Not a genius. Just trying to get better every day. We are all in this Together.
Awesome video, Scott! It's priceless to get the BTS footage while you walk us through your thoughts and actions. Great job!
Dude there is insane value here. Thank you for this.
This video is great! I'm currently working on learning videography and filmmaking, and would like to get into the wedding video industry. I watched through this entire video, and will definitely be watching it multiple times! So many good tips and bits of information through out, as well as a great look as to how to make your night filming so much better and easier by being nice and respectful to the other professionals you're trying to work with. At the end of the day you're all trying to accomplish the same task, which is to provide a memorable experience and product for the bride and groom, and when everyone works together you can all achieve that goal so much more easily.
29:45 "Let's hope he did everything correctly". I feel soooo bad for Pablo... He is doing everything he needs to and never gets nice feedback.
The video world can be petty bro 😂🤷🏾♂️
This is by far one of the most, if not the most detailed behind the scenes break down I have seen on UA-cam. Awesome work!
Thanks so much.
big thanks to him, Wedding photography big event, stress, pressure, a lot of list in the mind you have to do with no mistakes, it's not someone sitting behind computer writing comment about what you should do,
it's not an easy job, it's not easy to find someone shares with you his work and show you what to do, you get that with experience and many practices, easy to watch but not easy to do it in the first time.
it's like doing a film team by yourself, you the actor and the director and the cameraman.
woot love this
Just trying to model the best WFS. Appreciate all the great content from you.
WFS! Now that guy knows how to make a wedding video!! AND he's cute to boot!
I like your video, it's so great
It’s the second time I watch this and I love it. I’ve been shooting weddings for 3 years and you can always learn from other filmmakers processes and workflows. I can relate in a lot of things and ,even though the wedding format is so different to what you see here in Argentina, there are so many similarities in terms of how a filmmaker works in this type of events. Great tutorial and I’ll keep sharing it to fellow wedding filmmakers!
Means a lot. I agree that we can always learn from other people. I do the same thing.
I was actually watching wedding photography videos because I don't do video, but I somehow got roped into this video, and it's by far, one of the best... I still learned SOOO MUCH from watching this video. Thank you so much for doing this!!
So glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for existing. I watched your videos, finishing with this until 1:57am New Zealand Time.
I now have next level inspiration. I understand so much more. You helped immensely.
I just watched your full video and the final product. INCREDIBLE WORK! I have just started doing weddings myself and don't have near the equipment you do, but I am pushing forward. Thank you for the inspiriation and knowledge.
Do you have a link to the final video?
Love it!!! I am currently in college pursuing a degree in Digital Cinematography and upon completion, I really wanna do short films, videography for engagements/weddings and other events.
I subscribed!!!
God Bless!🙂
So glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Thank you, Scott! Watching this during the pandemic brings the so much needed normality feeling as if I am out shooting a wedding again.
Very impressed by the confidence and knowledge/experience!
I am going to do my first wedding soon. This was soo incredibly helpful. I took five pages of notes. I will consume these notes; digest them and embrace the on-the-run craziness. I love how you preach kindness no matter what. I agree with every way you handle yourself and interact with others. You are spreading great energy to all around you.
thank you so much, I've been wanting to practice my film making skills and this gave me a very interesting insight
So much effort has been put into this. As a photographer, I can tell that!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU LOVE LOVE LOVE Y'ALL! You are amazing I love the way you talk to us like we are there! THANK YOU!
This was amazing! You take professional to a whole new level!
Thanks. Just trying to get better each day
If you don't mind can you ball park how much do these events make you? and/or how frequent are these jobs for you?
I do roughly 30-35 weddings per year.
Loved your honest view of the way you film a wedding, you're cool dude
Thanks for that. I appreciate it.
What an amazing gift you have given us. Thank you!
this is the most jam packed, awesome tutorial for wedding filmmakers that i've come across on UA-cam. hugggeee thank you. I will most likely buy something from you in the near future due to the value you've provided me.
44:00 Pablo 😂
Da BJ lol
haha
Why Pablo look like Ivar the boneless from Vikings tho, or maybe its just me😂😂😂
Very cool, thanks for sharing the making off of work.
A big hug
Wow I’m so grateful for this!! Thank you!!
Wow. I really appreciate you making this video. Really puts a wedding shoot into perspective.
Let’s see, so first I have to buy a camera. Dang, this dude was loaded.
Great video, thanks. Two accessories you need ... CrystalSky (much better visibility on bright wedding days) and a landing pad (to protect your equipment from all the gravel/dust).
super clean work there. very friendly, professional and well planned. Great to see your approach to working with the other service providers and your communication was brilliant on all levels.
Between your own team and everyone else around you. That confident approach inspires confidence with those you work with and I don't think you can add a value to that for those who running on high emotion, who can use a little calming.
Of course the technical work was amazing as well. Thanks very much for taking me on the journey with you. great work Scott and Pablo.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Means a lot.
The best part is to be a (successful) and (by means of a business meeting expectations for a solid wedding event) that you have to be multi-purpose and good at cameras/drones/cinematic shots/angles/etc. We are living in such a cool time in human history and that's awesome. Nice work. Loved the video.
In the end I have been waiting for such a film from you. !!! I suppose that I should watch this video more than one time:) I just got first job on wedding in December Scott:) Keep your fingers crossed for me:)!!! Thanks for your help!!! Karol from Poland 🇵🇱:)
Spotcuts Film I’m so glad it was helpful, and congrats on your first wedding. Let me know if I can help you in anyway
Scott McKenna Certainly. Thanks 👍🥁😊
Cool, congrats on your first job - you will make it!
Thank you! In the meantime, it turned out that I could make a movie in October so it will be the second without counting a free movie for friends in Juni :) Thanks for support :). I love this job :)
Definitely a great great job - never boring, always different people, locations and projects! :-)
Thanks, bro... very very much... did my first wedding video about 2 weeks ago..... it was madness... smh! but there is always the first time for everything.... I follow WFS and he teaches me ah lot of great stuff, now you bring a different angel to my approach!
So glad it’s been helpful. Congrats on your first wedding. Never stop learning.
I appreciate y'all so much for this. Frfr
Learned a lot from this single behind the scenes video. What you do is simply amazing! Thanks for all the tips!
Best behind the scenes so far, how to see the post production video of the this wedding?
Thank you so much for sharing this, is amazing!! :D
man, so appreciate this video. Have a small wedding coming up and am new to it. Have needed some pointers and this gave me so much info. Thanks again man
The professionalism and organization in this video are so satisfying to watch lol
Thanks so much.
Me gustó mucho tu vídeo me imagino que el resultado final fue exelente
56:24 "Just keep being in love! Keep going!!" :) :) :)
Scott, I loved the way you teach and as simple you transformed the experience. Amazing. I'm very thankful. Please do more. This is exactly what I would like to see in a training. Another thing that I loved, you gave specs of the gear, plus the lighting and etc.....I really loved. Again Thank you.
Once video'd a wedding where bride got the nervous giggles and couldnt stop, preacher was laughing, everyone in the room laughing, and things then settled down, and couple was so appreciative I got it all, these moments the stills photog couldnt have gotten, and years later these videos are the ones they most replay, while the wedding album sits in storage.
