Which lens would you advise me to get? What do you think about Panasonic 20mm 1.7?
No hablo ingles cd
Sorry xd
Lumix 20mm F1.7 is good pancake lens for taking photographs. It has slightly slow focusing, and in low light the motor might be slighly noisy.
If you want to use M43 for video recording, you might consider getting a body with hybrid autofocus. For example OMD M1 Mark II can be now purchased really cheap.
While keeping things in budget (like NOT going for Leica DG 10-25 F1.7 which is a perfect videographer lens) try M.Zuiko 17mm F1.8. It has a clutch mechanism on focusing ring so if needed it can behave as a focusing on an old fashioned manual lens. But before purchasing one, i would verify the clutch mechanism works on Lumix body.
For AF lenses you are going to want a oly zuiko 25mm or 17mm which should be a fair bit better than the 20mm. If you really want decent AF for videos you will have to drop some more cash. OR what I would do is get a manual lens.
You can pick up a pergear/meike/neewer 1.8 that will rock for like 60 bucks. Actually having old-school control over the focus will be really helpful. And they are bright and sharp. On apsc sensors these lenses are a bit soft in the corners, but m4/3 sensors are so small they don't get soft in the corners.
You can get real cine lenses from MEKE 2.2 for 350, which isn't *that* expensive for camera gear. ua-cam.com/video/eufKIPfEbag/v-deo.html But it's a bigger and more "pro" than most people really need.
Leica 1.4 mft 25mm
Try setting the camera up for back-button focus and use it in AF-S. I've had really good results that way shooting festivals and events. When you do that the system seems to prioritize speed and it's much more efficient than the normal setup. That's certainly been my experience.
This is an essential lens to ones videography kit. A great companion to your wide angle lens
Don’t do video, so I’ve found this lens fantastic and pretty snappy for street photography.
Is a good lens for photography.
Just bought the 14mm f2.5 and absolutely love it. Quiet, focuses much more rapidly than the 20mm and is great for blogging/selfies. Give it a look.
Thank you, it seems like the manual focus is very problematic in the most common m43 lenses. I got three second hand zooms and the focus ring is like you say, unreliable.
Used it for the last ten years. My always go to lens! Regards Ulf
No doubts - it's a great lens for photography. Plenty of sharpness.
Maybe you should try it back again by setting metering mode for exposure and also the autofocus setting to multi area but center focused. Didn't had this issue and tbh it is an amazing lens for videography as well. Compact, very sharp, nice subject separation and really allows you to get too closer to subject almost like a macro. This is an awesome lens for its price point.
The 12-60mm kit lens that comes with the g80/85 is a really nice lens. You will use it for 90% of your shooting. It focuses quickly and quietly. The only way you can do better is getting a prime lens (no zoom) or a summilux/leica zoom lens but those options are much more expensive. The expensive lenses are a bit sharper, mostly in the outside corners.
My GX80 came with the 14-140, how about that? 😊
Mam Panasonica 20/1.7, wykonuję głównie zdjęcia ale też męczy mnie wolny autofocus. Co myślisz o panasonic/leica 15/1.7?
For what the lens is designed for, it looks fantastic. It's small, light, tiny and cheap. When you want to throw your camera in your pocket and go on vacation and get some really nice photos.
We all want a 1.7 pancake lens with fast AF and smooth focusing for $150... But it's just not going to happen.
True.
I often see people criticise products for purposes that they weren't intended for. IMO as long as the buyer knows the limitations then this lens in a best buy for mft... even for video.
It's $300 now!
I want a lens that does not lose focus. Who recommends one that when I move the camera everything is fine, I move the camera a lot.
this 20mm + BMPCC 1080p OG works fine for video???
I love this lens for *photography*, but you are right - it is not good at all for video because of the focus problems. I would suggest the Olympus 17mm 1.7 for a similar field of view, but it is a far superior prime lens in every way. (But, similarly priced.) For a zoom lens the Panasonic 12-60mm 3.5 is a good budget option, and the Leica12-60 2.8 is a good "pro" choice.

I noticed some flickering when filming videos.
I use my G85 with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 and the Lumix 14mm 2.5. Both focus fast and silent. What camera and lens are you using now?
G80 + Lumix 25mm 1.7 + Lumix 14-42mm. All is smooth now friend 😊
@@MGalaxy Many people says the Lumix 25 f1.7 is far less sharper than the Lumix 20 mm 1.7, do you agree?
Well at least now I know yours also makes the slight noise, as does mine. I am sure I can live with that, we can use external microphones, and manual focus for video. You're maybe too demanding on this small lens.
get the manual lenses from Samyang
This is the old 20mm 1.7, have you tried the newer version?
Isn't that the same?
@@niasboiii The one in the video, partially gray, is the 1st gen, the one that's all black is the 2nd gen. I've heard that the 2nd gen has smoother focus and is slightly faster and quieter.
Is lens the Mk1 ......I understand the Mk2 version has an updated motor....the original Mk 1 was introduced around 2012 and things have become a lot improved......who uses an 8 year old camera with expectations of similar performance of today's offerings....also coatings have advanced and maybe the Mk 2 20mm enjoys that and an improved motor.
This lens is the V1 not the V2 the V2 is much better at AF.
Could maybe do with an update of the title
Great lens.
If you are a filmmaker you don't need AF O.o, that's crap....
I think you should finish watching the video...
He looks at manual too.
Did U buy this 25mm 1.7? Has it good AF?
Yes, I've bought it. Autofocus is pretty good, waaaaay better than in that 20mm. Overall I am happy with it, though not always with the focal length. Ogółem mogę polecić ☺
@@MGalaxy I'm just cerious if it is good for vloging, brighter but with worse angle than kit 12-60, what do U think?
Yeah, I believe that angle would be far from ideal for vlogging, maybe for some clips stacking etc. You have to see for yourself 😉
@@MGalaxy I am also currently thinking if all other panasonic lenses have that bad autofocus. 25 20 15mm.
But the 25 mm 1.7 is less sharper, don't you regret your decision? sharp video is extremely important for me.
I agree with the frustrations here but also just to mention one thing that is very good when you pair this lens with the G80/85 - 4k live crop!
On a tripod, focus the lens and leave it, then use live crop to pan/zoom to your point of interest works really nicely and is especially effective if it's like product B roll and you're using a turntable or something for product motion.
Great stills lens but frustrating for video, I enjoyed your review, thanks.
15 1.7
Muito too o vídeo
Send it to me
This lens is better than 25 f1.7 none ?
as far as I know, for pictures it may be! although for video 25mm seems much better.
@@MGalaxy I'm using lens kit 12-32, can I change it to 25mm f1.7 for better video recording? Please advise me, please
@@ktvmaytinh9787 Yes, why not? Be aware that 25mm is more narrow focal length though.
if you are into video, stay away from m43 camera .....
Bruh
Bruh!
"On the start of my filmmaking journey" if you're at the start, then maybe don't give lens advice? This is a fine lens, and you don't use autofocus for video in the GH5 anyway (wheatever the lens, it doesn't work good enough to be reliable).
Incorrect - "as a start to my videography journey with my new Panasonic Lumix G80" (I never had Panasonic for video before). I use AF-S for video so autofocus reliablity is not my major concern. In the video I"ve also talked about the issues releated to the manual focus in terms of this lens.
Is like M-Galaxy says, is problematic, great image quality, but manual focus is not reliable.
@ isn't manual focus controlled by user? how can it be not reliable?
