I mean, the first time I realized it was a big deal was when I saw "While You Were Sleeping" with Sandra Bullock and one of the characters gets earrings for Christmas and she's so excited because it means her parents are allowing her to get her ears pierced. I remember thinking, well, doesn't EVERYONE get them pierced as babies? Lol!!!
