  • G'day all!
Clewsos here - Rich, Hay, Georgia & Samuel
In this episode, we take a break from showing you all the fun stuff we've been up and reflect on our thoughts and feelings on our Immigration to Australia after 3 months down under. There are a few tears and a real insight on the emotional side of moving the other side of the world to your family & friends. The children partake in a Wanted Down Under style review, Hay has a heart felt one-to-one with the GoPro and Rich has a Q&A session with Samuel.
    We hope you enjoy!

I know exactly how you feel ! I’ve now lived in Brisbane for 40 years & still miss my siblings & friends, in the UK ! My children found going to school, stressful at the beginning!
It definitely takes time ,to adjust to your new life, regardless how beautiful Australia is !
Don’t be hard on yourself, it’s a huge thing moving away from family & friends !
We shipped everything we had, plus a car,to Brisbane ! It was the best day for us all when it arrived !
I joined a gym not long after arriving & met people, that are still my friends today !
I’m not sure where you’re living, but there are British shop in Brisbane, that sell crips, sweets & maybe things your children are missing! Also you can buy marmite in Woolworth !
    Good luck 🥰

Never bring your furniture with when you migrate - costs a lot of money, becomes worthless when you get here and doesn't suite the new home and if your renting you have to move it again. Give up and buy new furniture when you arrive - this is from migrants who have done this and even when I move with in Australia unless its a family piece of furniture item I sell it very cheap and buy new for the new house. Save a lot of money - the costs of packing a container, renting container and shipping along with final delivery - let it go and use the money for when you arrive to set up home - even dump a lot of clothes they don't suit the Australian climate.

@@marcusversace9423 good words of wisdom there mate. I’d say furniture for sure and clothes. There are lots of items though, pictures, photos, Christmas decs for us, that make a house feel like your home. A balancing act I guess

just remember its only a flight away, get involved in the schools , offer help , volunteer , people will help you move forward , do a course or two, job hunting is hard for everyone

My parents migrated to Australia when I was 16. I have four siblings who are younger than me. This was in the mid 60s. Previously we had lived in Canada, the United States and the U.K., and finally Australia. My father was a Yorkshire man who married a Canadian. What we learned shifting countries was to be open minded about the country we are now in. Accept the faux pas you are going to make. And learn everything you can about the history and culture of the new land you are in. This helps with integrating with the locals, especially when you have superior knowledge. Our first Christmas was on a very hot summer day. We packed a cold picnic, and headed to the beach. We found a nice shady tree and thoroughly enjoyed a very different Christmas lunch. Now, over 55+ years later, I can't imagine a cold, dark Christmas day. Now I go round to my sons place for a seafood and BBQ lunch, with lots of cold beer, a game of backyard cricket, and an afternoon nap on a shady hammock. What's not to love.

I came as a child at the age of 11and I will be honest I hated school I was different I was bullied.I still struggle to this day as an adult I travelled as therapy.I love still an old English home even though smaller they have more charm more character.

@@belindaclarke7803 sorry to hear of your struggles. Hopefully it all panned out well in the end. Travel does do something for you hey! I think old English cottages are lovely but to live in day today may be tough nowadays with how much fuel/energy costs in the UK to heat plus the older places never have the modern tech that we so commonly use nowadays

Ah, the irony. If I couldn't live in Aus anymore, the only other place I would live would be the UK. I spent 18 months there back in the late 70's while I was in the Royal Australian Navy, and I fell in love with the history and the countryside... and the cream buns!! But as it is, I'll always call Australia home.
I hope you've all settled in by the time this is posted, and I wish the whole family all the best in this marvelous country of ours.

@@clewsosgiag I spent 12 months in England, bouncing between London and Portsmouth, and the final 6 months up in Scotland, in Paisley, on the river Clyde. I was over there in 1978 to pick up Australia's last 'Oberon' class submarine and bring it home.

Hopefully you've discovered and experienced the friendliness among Australians (new and old).
