My college choir sang this and when we went to Russia for a festival we sang it for our guides and they cried. This is my favorite composition of O Magnum Mysterium
This is one of those songs that will always be in my memories and my heart. Although I don't don't make the Mixed Choir for the TMEA 2016 year, I will always remember the baritone part and the lessons I would have with my teacher on this song. I cry every time I hear this because not just because I didn't make it, but because the people who WILL sing this at All-State wanted it more than I did, and I wanted it pretty bad. Good luck to those who made it to that Prestigious Choir, enjoy the experience that happens that week, and may the future be bright and beautiful as this song.
My Junior year in High School, we sang this for my Christmas concert. Singing Alto 2 in this piece was one of the best and blessed things I ever did in Choir. To this day it still gives me goosebumps and makes me cry because I was so involved in the music and the notes and rhythm and everything. Most beautiful piece I've ever sung in High School Varsity choir.
Yesterday I performed this piece along with others at the great UTSA campus. A truly moving experience I will always carry with me. I want nothing more then to sing this with the state choir to feel that truly blissful feeling again.
My senior year we did this song. There's so much energy and emotion you can feel in it and this was our favorite. It's so beautiful I wish I could sing it with the choir again..
oh Jesus I don't think music has ever moved me the way 3:46 did. absolutely... just captivating. I'm so lucky to be able to sing this with the mixed choir
This is my favorite of the 9 All State audition pieces this year. It's really the only one I enjoy singing at our 12 hour long days of rehearsal at TCU the past three days.
Yesterday I had the priviledge of hearing this beautiful composition performed by the Lincoln University Concert Choir in Ardmore, PA. They took my breath away. This week they will be in Los Angeles, CA. If you ever have the opportunity to hear this magnificent choir - representing one of the nation's oldest HBCUs - please do so.
This was performed beautifully. The “waves” you can feel with the altos and tenors... the floating and light feeling in the beginning- AMAZING interpretation. Great blend. Really my only critique is that sometimes the seconds cover the firsts up until Allelujah! Those 9 dislikers haven’t listened to the other videos of this on youtube, clearly this performance is of much higher end.
This is honestly the most beautiful song I have ever heard. The words are so beautiful and you can hear the wonder and mystery behind each note as we think about the birth of Jesus. I am beyond excited to audition this piece for TMEA.
i wanted to sing this piece so bad. i was 12th chair, alto 2 in region and 11th chair in pre-area. sooo yeah, i didn't make it... i cried the next day in band :\ but i plan to try harder next year.
Jose Olivares idk this is my first time making region. This is my Sophomore year and I didn't make region on my freshman year. I'm advanced to pre area but I don't know what's gonna happen then.
+tyrese smith I was second chair first soprano in my highschool A Capella chior when we sang this. It is such a beautiful piece. We brought the audience to tears...
This piece is definitely not SATB though: it's SSAATTBB pretty much all piece long, and I know there's sometimes a 3rd divisi among the tenors (I don't know for the other voices though)
This choir is too top heavy and the men's parts were piano while the sopranos sang forte throughout most of the song. Especially the tenors when the biggest section was only sung by the sopranos and you couldn't hear a single tenor. The tenor part was suppose to be one of the most important parts there, but otherwise it was well.
I have to add a very good comment on the interpretation though: both Alleluias were incredibly powerful and it was absolutely marvelous. My chills were so strong that it made me cry hahaha

In college we toured in Italy and this was our closer for the first part of our show. I'll never forget how beautiful this was and special, to perform
3:46 this is the most beautiful part of the song. I cry everytime.
YES SAME I'm like don't do it cam you're in public nooooo

As a tenor 1, I hold the same note for like 80% of the song. Still my favorite, because listen to everyone else. See you guys at all state mixed✌🏾
Same
+Phillip Velarde I don't know what you're talking about... We have discrepancy throughout the song except for like 6 measures.

D. H. ALTO 2s GO HARD! 💜💜
3:48 I bawled my eyes out singing it, even listening to it now. It's just so powerful
I agree out of all my high school memories in choir this is the only song I ever remember because I truly enjoyed and loved singing it.
Omg my choir did too and I was so honored to direct it! One of the mosr gorgeous pieces I have ever heard in my life!
Please don’t ever delete this video or private it. This is the only version that I’ve found that was able to create the beautiful overtone at 4:00

that key change near the end absolutely murders me
No tears......so beautiful.
So incredibly excited and honored to be performing this with my college choir this fall; so moving!
To truly connect with music, one must break down all emotional barriers and let oneself be vulnerable to the melodic embodiment of sound.
I absolutely love this piece. Mr. Membley. What a composition...It somehow literally speaks to me... Darlene Ifill-Taylor
i really love this song it brings me to tears...
This is honestly the most beautiful song I have ever heard. The words are so beautiful and you can hear the wonder and mystery behind each note as we think about the birth of Jesus. I am beyond excited to audition this piece for TMEA.

What choir is singing in this recording?
So basically this year's Justorum
Yes basically
This piece is definitely not SATB though: it's SSAATTBB pretty much all piece long, and I know there's sometimes a 3rd divisi among the tenors (I don't know for the other voices though)

Yeah but when are all-state sopranos not yelling the entire song trying to out-sing each other lol
I have to add a very good comment on the interpretation though: both Alleluias were incredibly powerful and it was absolutely marvelous. My chills were so strong that it made me cry hahaha
this is a great song except for how much vibrato the sapranos are using that just sounds bad but the rest is great.
I think it is not sure xD hey kik me @gza72
