MovieFlame! Just came up with an idea for another request: since you did a video biography about JK Rowling, how bout do a video biography for *George Lucas* perhaps??
Hey @MovieFlame an Easter egg when the song "what is love" plays you see the animations bobbing their heads it's a hint at the movie Night at the Roxbury
Hi movieflame! You know how you made those videos about the numbers 3 and 7 in Harry Potter? I think it would be so cool if you could make videos like that for pjo! I can already think of a bunch of examples, bc ofc the number 3 is really important in Greek mythology to begin with. And maybe you could make one for the number 12 too. That's also pretty prominent. Love your videos, especially this pjo stuff!❤ Also if you make these pls shout me out? Thank you!
If Anabeth is the brain and Percy is the backbone, Grover is the heart of the group. The guy is one of the most emotionally intelligent and empathetic characters, and this will develop even further in the coming seasons.
I was waiting eagerly for this review! My absolute FAVORITE episode by far, we finally get “seaweed brain!!!” Not only that but Ares’ modernized characterization of being a Twitter troll was pure gold.
I totally agree. I love how they were able to make ares seem unhinged enough to have weakness through that but also showing how dangerous the gods can be. I really like how they r setting up the arguments for and against the gods so early too bc it’s obviously very important.
I think Adam being Ares was a great casting choice due to him being a professional wrestler for WWE and AEW. Also he used to play a bad guy in wrestling so he probably used some of his work in that for this character.
@@ryankenter4779 that actually is a great casting for Ares. I think many wrestlers could have fit him. Especially maybe Roman but I don’t think his schedule would fit. Casting Edge was the right call though.
@@ryankenter4779 yeah. But Riordan wants this show to be family friendly for everybody to watch and see themselves in those characters. I would have liked it for it to be TV-14 but it would be good either way.
The one thing I wished they had kept in the Tunnel of Love sequence was Annabeth's fear of spiders. I'm sure it'll be added later in the show but it was a good comedic and vulnerable moment in the book that helped Percy see Annabeth was a kid just like him. I do love the change with the golden chair and the statue though and Leah's acting was amazing
@@alyssawaters7781I'm hopeful they'll show it in the future, but it was nice to still see that vulnerability, her being scared right before he got into the chair
Thank you so much for these breakdowns! The books were my favorite series in middle school and Ive been enjoying the show so far but your videos really help connect the dots since its been so long since I last read them. 🤙
The instrument they gave to Hephaestus makes me think they added it to be a parallel to Leo's Valdezenator and it made me smile so much cause it feels so nice Rick can add little details like that now that he's adapting an already fully realized story
I dont think its a reference to Valdezenator as that would not make much sense bcoz Leo made it for Apollo as far as I remember. I personally think Hephaestus will give that instrument to Grover at the end of the season as a gift for some reason bcoz we havent seen Grovers reed pipes yet.
Just to help clarify: Athena and Ares are both war gods. But if you want to distinguish them, Ares is more the god of action (doing stuff- charging, stabbing, etc.) Ares is all about bloodlust. He doesn't really care who wins, as long as people fight, fight, fight. Athena is more about forethought in war (leadership, protection, strategy,, etc. and, yes, peacetimes.) Athena is all about pride. To both, war is a just a game though. Mortality, consequences, why should they care? lol
@@khonshugodofthenightsky2159 She hates the Romans in both of her forms, it's why Athena keeps sending her kids on that suicide quest. I mean given the prophecy none of them could've even completed it until Annabeth came along during the war against Gaea.
"Fairly and properly" what god is that? In the Iliad Zeus tells Athena to shot a arrow in a achean soldier to once again start the battle. And she does that gladly. There is no fairness in war, and she not represent fairness in war. But she does represent a more strategic war than Ares.
I really appreciate the show painting the gods in a bad light. As I mentioned with episode 3, this would make a certain character seem all the more understandable with their motivation, but it would also make what would happen in season 5 (if they do indeed adapt all the books) all the more earned. And I'm super curious about the next episode, not just because of Hermes, but because we may end up seeing a certain pair of siblings at the casino.
The butterflies of my stomach are trying harder to burst out of my mouth just by getting the thought of seeing those 'certain pair of siblings' in the next episode 🌝✨
As a book reader who has been rereading PJO for years now, seeing non book readers making their theories and seeing how *horribly* wrong they are is so endearing to me. I hope after this season ends, you react to some of them.
I wanna point out that the chair scene they added was GREAT. Because it's also adding a subtle hint to the fatal flaw trope of the series. The show is slowly showing how Percy's Loyalty and his constant willingness to put himself in danger for his friends is his fatal flaw.
While this is true it also is used to continually fail to show any type of weakness in Annabeth. Which is sad because she is still a super cool character but they are trying too hard to girl boss her. I thought the show was going to do a really good job with the spider scene because they seemed to have set it up with Ares’ line about Annabeth having no fear but unfortunately they went in a different direction which was not bad as it still added to the plot but it dodged another opportunity to make Annabeth seem more human.
@@masonguthrie1257 you're acting like she's no vulnerable moments, she had that whole talk with percy about her family situation and overall she's been softening up and showing her true personality more and more. it's pretty true to how she was in the beginning. how exactly are they 'girl bossing' this twelve yr old girl?
@@masonguthrie1257I actually read a comment somewhere that Annabeth challenging the police officer in episode 4 was showcasing her weakness, which is hubris, and I agree with that. I do think they’re definitely showing Percy’s weakness more than Annabeth, but at least there is something there for her.
@@mallikaanand7917 while I agree that you could read into it as her pride but just the way it was shot it seemed more like boss girl standing up to the authority vibes but I can be charitable there.
The desire to save people is not a flaw. Like, Percy is so perfect his flaw is being toooo good in his heart? I hope Riordan changes that later to a actual character flaw.
I understand why the cut to black when Percy used his powers was disappointing, and I really do think it's to save money on effects, but I also get the impression that the scene in today's episode, and others that have come before it, are being carefully edited to show when he uses his abilities he's disoriented, and tired afterwards and I think the cut to black kind of works when you take that perspective. We don't see what happens because even Percy himself doesn't know.
That's a very good way of putting it. He's still new to using his powers and doesn't quite understand how to use them very well yet. He's still learning.
Percy I believe can make his clothes wet if he chooses. I also think he’s still understanding what each of his powers do and will develop them over time, culminating in the Ares fight. Maybe see him realizing he can keep himself dry by the second season (if we hopefully get one)?
You're right. Percy can make his clothes wet or dry if he so chooses. In the beginning, I noticed that he wasn't wet. Then I thought he doesn't know his powers well enough yet so it would make sense why he's still wet. I think it would be much later when he stays dry.
I feel sorry for Clarisse, she tries so hard, but her father only sees her as a nuisance or a tool. SPOILERS: At least the Mars version of him seems to care more about his children.
I cannot tell you how much my best friend and I fangirled when we saw this episode! The amount of Percabeth moments we had in this episode was what I had been waiting for and hearing Annabeth finally calling Percy Seaweed Brain just took the cake for me 😍 Also just shoutout to both Walker and Leah for their performances this episode! I mean they've been very good throughout in my opinion, but the scene between them wanting to protect the other before Percy turned to gold was just so heartbreaking. The emotions were there and I really felt for both of them.
@@OReily08080 I’m not sure if Leah has been in anything else, but for Walker, have you seen The Adam Project? That’s the role that pretty much made everyone agree that he was the perfect actor for Percy. His humor and sass was just so on point 😂
I’m really starting to enjoy these actors as well. One of the things I like about this adaptation versus the adaptations of the Harry Potter books is the deemphasis of the first person narrative. Rather than have the entire story centered around the main character, Percy, we’re getting to learn more about Grover and Annabeth apart from their interactions with Percy. Another thing I actually enjoy about watching their on-screen portrayals is the fact that all the actors look different. They portray the characters’ spirits and personalities so well that I really enjoy seeing they brought Rick’s visions to life, but at the same time their portrayals don’t take away from the way I imagined the characters when I read the books, only adding to my experience. For example, I still picture book Percy with black hair, the imagination of which brings back fond childhood memories of reading, but at the same time seeing Walker Scobell killing it by bringing out characteristics of Percy in a slightly different context only augments my overall PJ experience. I really hope we get at least 10 more seasons of a series that has been nothing short of amazing so far.
Great post! I also think this is true for the day player characters aka monster attack characters. Because of the Pov shift we really get to hear their POV and those actors really shine. No one feels like a throw away character, they all shine some light on the world and the themes of the story.
Personally I think that the percabeth fans are gonna be happy with this one it was amazing to see there relationship develop and we even got a sea weed brain drop so great episode over all
13:59 my favorite moment in the whole show so far. I feel like the moments I visualized while reading the books are coming to fruition exactly how I imagined it, so seeing Scobell and Jeffries pull it off was awesome, especially considering their youth. Scobell’s hilariousness and acting abilities really transfer from “The Adam Project” really well here
The song playing makes so much sense to not only Percabeth's developing relationship but its taken a completely different meaning in relation to Hephaestus and his family and I think that's powerful
Another alternative for Percy falling of the Arch was something I saw in the graphic novel. In the graphic novel, Percy willingly jumped off the Arch and Grover came to help with his flying shoes, but Percy was too heavy and they both fell into the Missispi River. Which was another cool way to show how Percy ended up in the river, and also shows the friendship between Grover and Percy. Though, I'm not bothered by the show's change.
leah absolutely nailed the "im either gonna hug you or hit you" stare. as she was walking towards percy by the arch, i genuinely thought she was gonna slap him ahaha
I think Hephaestus appearance was a nice touch of something different. I can’t really complain that Annabeth saw the fates since she was tied to Luke’s fate in the prophecy of the Big Three just as Percy is
Man, I love how the show adaptation emphasizes Grover's more adult aspects considering that he's 24. He really does feel, talk, and act like an adult. His conversation with Ares is one of my favorites in the entire show.
Yes! I love this too! And he really feels not human! I didn't always feel that in the first book (I just started the 2nd book) except when he would eat random things. Lol
Grover is going to say, "Clarisse stole the bolt" which of course we know is wrong, we won't find out until likely the very last scene in the last episode (I won't spoil it)
The biggest problem with the movies and the main difference between the changes made in the movies and made in the show, is the movies changed the literal ancient mythology that the stories were rooted in while the show maintains the mythology as the foundation of the story
I love the inclusion of Ares, by far my favorite God and show stealer rn. And I love Percy and Annabeth's time at the water park Honestly all the adults have been stealing the show in the best way ever
I really like this episode, I like how not only do they address how messed up the gods are, they also address not everyone on Olympus is happy with the status quo Zeus is making them live by. This is my take on why Hephaestus freed Percy from the chair since he saw he’s the only one who makes people change their perspectives and wanting to be their own person and not relive the past all the time. It’s the reason why the fates smiled, because they are very aware the trio is going to change everything and don’t bother trying to stop them, since they can see the rules of the current status quo is no longer working. Moving on, I have a theory that Aphrodite was watching the whole scene of Percy sacrificing himself and Annabeth trying to save him and is secretly planning for the two of them to end up together.
I actually love that theory. I really like the idea of Aphrodite watching them in the Tunnel of Love. It would make much more sense later on when Percy visits her in the car and she talks to him about young love and Percy is confused. 😅
I am falling in love with Walker's acting more and more as the series progresses. He IS Percy. This is how I imagined him behaving in the book, and even his obliviousness when it comes to Annabeth is endearing. I can't wait for them to reach that point where they either fight and argue all the time or make eyes at each other. If next week I get to have a peek at my dear little emo boy (love him so much) in the Lotus Casino, I will pass out.
As a fan of Pro Wrestling it’s really cool to see Adam “Edge” Copeland in the series. He’s a seriously underrated wrestler turned actor and I hope this gets him more roles in main stream TV and films. Love him as Ares.
As a big WWE fan myself, he might have been what I was most curious about going into the show (not the reason I was watching, but I was definitely excited when I found out). His first impression has not remotely disappointed.
I'm literally so EXCITED for next week's episode as there's been hints that we might see some easter eggs at the Lotus Casino (Bianca and Nico). Nico's my favorite character from the Greek and Roman series by Rick, so even just possibly seeing a glimpse of him will be such a treat as we may never see him or Bianca until the third season 🤲🏽. This was a great episode as well. My only complaints were the same as yours plus with Annabeth's trait of not being as afraid of confrontation (from the series) being pushed slightly too much. It's been bothering me as sometimes it feels extra; but I trust Rick Riordan, so it doesn't bother me too much. I’m really loving the actors each episode more and more (Walker is a treasure with Percy; a character I immediately fell in love with when I first read the Lightning Thief WAY BACK) and Leah and Aryan are becoming favorites for me too with this series. And, can we talk about the Fates (literally the cutest grandmas. I was 😁 the whole seconds they were on screen). Great episode overall and loved your review. Alright, I’m done now. 🤭😂🫶🏽
There's a very low chance we see the people themselves. The actors would have to be cast really far in advance at this point and it's very unlikely they'd want to take that risk What I saw someone say that I now agree makes a lot of sense is that they will see "Nico/Bianca Di Angelo" as the top score of some of the arcade games and stuff
Dude Walker and Leah’s acting during the throne scene was SO GOOD I love how with every episode the main three feel more and more like the characters I know and love, each new episode that comes out is my new favorite! Also I’m soooo excited for the lotus casino episode, I think it’s gonna be awesome!
The parallels in this episode are insane. Ares calling them dummies. Clarisse called Percy dummy in the beginning maybe because she wants to be like her dad. Ares said they would push anyone down a flight of stairs to get what they want. And that’s what Percy said about annabeth to get her to join them. Which highlights her saying she doesn’t want to be like that anymore and wants to be more like Percy.
I noticed the dummy thing too! Idk if it was intentional but if it was, that's such a cool detail. It's perfect for Clarisse, who looks up to her dad even though she isn't treated the way she deserves to be
I thought ares was gonna be the best new character in the episode, and he arguably is, but the guy who played Hephaestus really impressed me. He perfectly captured the troubled blacksmith who feels like an outcast among the gods. Not to mention that since Hephaestus was always depicted as having a metal brace around his leg and struggling to walk straight, the fact that he’s actually played by a disabled actor is even better
I absolutely loved this episode. The main trio and the two gods delivered. I loved Grover's conversation with Aries. It showed his bravery and social skills, considering the anger that Aries causes in people and Grover managed to talk to him for that long.
Adam Copeland is perfect I remember him in WWE and he fits Ares to a T. Though Edge is far smarter than Ares. Also love that Annabeth saw the fates considering who's string they actually cut. Also love that Hephaestus appears. I hope they don't change his scenes too much or take them out in the 4th season if they make it that far. I don't see why they would.
“If we make it out of this alive we oughta change that” Sets up the beginning of the second book/season, where Annabeth was supposed to be meeting Percy for a movie (I don’t consider that a spoiler) The setup for future seasons is beautiful !!
At first I thought of that too (and I was screaming internally), but was it really the second book? In the second book Annabeth was stalking Percy with her Yankees cap. The movie thing was probably 4th book since we saw Annabeth get jealous over Percy talking with Rachel Elizabeth Dare.
@@esc2909I think that was the 4th one yeah because of her closing up seeing Percy with Rachel. I definitely conflated that with her stalking him in the second one too
I’m so glad they added the little hint towards Percy and Annabeth going to the movies and I hope they drop hints like that every season as kind of like the movies being a connection to the state of their relationship. Because when he asks her here it’s definitely still a platonic suggestion, but at the start of book four we know they planned on going to watch one as more of a date date so if they do it right they can maybe parallel their movie going towards the depth of their relationship!
Spoilers i think grover suspects clarisse as the lightning thief. As he probably figured out ares wants a war and how clarisse would want to side with her dad after saying he hates his kids to try and get his approval. I doubt they will reveal luke was the one who actually did it
i am so suprised that i am loving all of the changes the show is making. the books will always be there, but the show takes the opportunity to expand and dig deeper than the first book ever did and its phenomenal. not to mention all the foreshadowing and set ups they are already doing for things that won't even happens until seasons later.
I also liked how it made Grover intelligent and know how to worm information out of people. And it has me asking this: is Grover sure he didn't want to be a good cop at some point?
I am confident that every change would have been in the book if Rick had thought of it then. Every change has been faithful to the characters, and concept of the Percy Jackson books, and I’m all here for it. Showing hephaestuses golden chair is something that I guarantee would have been in the book if Rick had thought of it
13:45 I kind of missed the spiders, it showed one of Annabeths weaknesses being so scared that it paralysed her (+ the lore of Athena & arachne). But I can see why they wanted to change maybe because it would be too similar to HPs giant spiders or not wanting to scare children too much. Eitherway I hope they come back to Annabeths spiderfobia at some point
I think they will, it's mentioned in the fourth book too in the labyrinth cuz she follows a metal spider to Daedalus , but I think they will probably showcase it before that.
I mean, I don't think their intention was to "not scare children" since we'll probably see more terrifying things as the story progresses. But I, too, wanted to see the spiders and I really hope they'll add it soon. It's an important part of Annabeth's character.
I would rate this episode an 8.5/10, I really enjoyed it! It was fun finally seeing Ares in the TV series and having all the scenes with Percy and Annabeth together. There were definitely a lot more things that I didn’t like about this episode compared to the other episodes, but they were all super small. I can’t wait to see the Lotus Casino episode next week!
LASSIE FINALLY APPEARS IN THE SERIES! (For those who are confused the nickname Lassie was given to Detective Carl Lassiter in the series psych played by the same actor as Hephaestus.)
The hidden details are soo cool like the way Annabeth snapped back after the hug for a sec if you look closely, Grover smiling at the end of ares and his conversion, tears in Percy 's and Annabeth's eyes when he sat in the throne...god's the kids are awesome 👍 I am glad as a reader 😊
I really really loved the conversation between Annabeth and Hephaestus and I was disappointed when u didnt talk much about it!! The conversation showed how Annabeths personality has taken full 180° turn after meeting Percy and how Hephaestus spared Percy bcoz he knows how cruel his family can be and he himself has suffered so much bcoz of them. Also, even though Percy had some great lines in this episode, and that they dropped Seaweed Brain for the first time, Ares totally stole the show for me!! Adam Copeland was absolutely the perfect choice for Ares!!
i was a little sad that they took away the spiders, as it’s and introduction to athena’s kids and their fear of spiders - which obviously has more importance later. but i think that the golden throne was such a great addition that continues to show how great of a character percy is
Annabeth defending Percy saying he was not like others, not like her was really a good touch and heartwarming, didn’t expect this level of bonding so fast, the book was taking it slow and steady but show is jumpin the gun. W adaptation so far.
I loved this episode! I could feel myself getting pulled into the story. It's nice to have little surprises here and there since most of us have read the books and you can never really duplicate that same feeling you get the first time you hear, read, or see a story. I agree that the acting is getting better and better and I feel like they are becoming the characters more and more. Loving it!
This episode was so fun! I’m so glad that we finally saw Ares, and that they Annabeth said Seaweed Brain!! I can’t wait for the Lotus Casino episode next week!
Get some unknown individual had the audacity to insult is acting saying that he can't act then I clapped back at him and saying if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all walker can act his butt off and I can't wait to see him in other movies TV series
@@juanitamorgan5475 Oh, Walker is a 100% getting that Percy Jackson personality right. In the last episode, when he told Chronos to basically f*ck off, I laughed and thought that was such a Percy-line.
As a whole thus far I give the entire show a 9. These final 3 episodes coming up will be amazing and I look forward to this show to continuing on Disney for years to come!
Also annabeth was basically homeless at seven so it makes sense that she didn’t a movie. Also Percy asking out for a movie date and seaweed brain getting mentioned I loved.
Y’all they are doing so much with Percabeth and I am so happy! Grover and Ares in this episode had me on the edge of my seat! I loved this scene because it was something I’d never seen before so I wasn’t sure what might happen. Can’t wait for next weeks episode!
Percy asking Annabeth out for movies kinda reminds me of the Kane Chronicles where Carter asked Zia out to go to the mall since she had never been there before.
this episode and last really solidified what i already thought was great acting and embodiment of annabeth percy and grover. even going back and reading the books i just have to envisioned the actors cause they embody the characters SO much to me! percy would totally be thinking about annabeth hugging him for like 2 hours after it happened and she would be concentrated on the fates and figuring out their next step. i love this show so much!
The show didn't disappoint. Even my friend who never read the books can't wait for another episode. For me the show is 10/10 ❤ and thus I am rereading the oercy jackson books all over again and I am stunned how close it matches to the original books
If anyone on here is from Pittsburgh, you'll know what I'm talking about: At Waterland, they wenty to a Tunnel of Love ride. Near Pittsburgh, there's an amusement park called Kennywood. They have a Tunnel of Love type ride called the Old Mill.
I love how they gave Ares so much depth even though he isn’t a nice guy. Like his insecurity with Athena as his sister, his humour and modernization with Twitter wars, and ofc his distate with kids. He is not just a one-note villain which I like!!
I watched this episode last night, and I love it. The fact Ares' chariot is a Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob is awesome because those seem to be one of the most reliable motorcycles on the market from what I've seen, and it shows that Ares has embraced the American spirit to some degree.
Actually, it's alw his war chariot disguised by th mist. In th books aslo other magical objects of other gods look like smth else under th effects of th mist. Apollo's solar chariot is a red maserati, poseidon's trident is a fishing rod, a fire-hose or an ice cream, hades' helmet is a balaclava, charon's barge is an elevator etc, etc..
As a book reader, my personal theory is that Grover will say Clarice stole the Bolt. I think he will tell them Ares had Clarice steal it and give it to Hades. Mostly speculation, but the show definitely made Ares intentions more obvious and Grover could probably pick up on that. And from there Ares having his own kid steal the bolt would make the most sense
And Spoilers for Sea of Monsters, but having the group suspect Clarice would add a lot more intrigue for a potential season two when Clarice is given the quest and they then have to trust and help the person they doubted and suspected in season 1
It would make sense, but as he said, he doesn´t even like his own kids so why would he make one of them do that. Maybe they´d go in the direction that Grover thinks Clarisse stole the bolt to impress her dad?
@@leamichellemuller2173that might be the case, but even though Ares said he doesn't like his children, it doesn't mean he can't "use" them. That actually sounds very Ares-like.
@@leamichellemuller2173 He doesnt like his Kids. But he sees tham as utilities, a means to an end. He sends them on so many types of menial quests in the books. So yeah, he doesn't like them but hes not afraid to use them.
Definitely the best episode, it oddly felt so different from the book yet at the same time very accurate from the book and I’m here for it. The scene where Annabeth and Percy argue over who will sit in the throne foreshadows what the next couple of books in the series reveals about them so well.
I know I'm gonna get flamed for this take but I really wish they kept Annabeth's appearance consistent. She was probably the character with the most vivid visual description in the whole novel, blonde hair, tan (not black) skin, stormy grey eyes, in Percy's own words, the stereotypical southern California girl. It's just jolting to see a character with a completely different appearance than what I've been vividly imagining my entire life. Does it impact the story at all? No. It's just a pet peeve that I wish they made her appearance more accurate. There's plenty of other major characters they could've made black to meet the diversity quota who aren't given such a specific description. Heck, they even did make Mr Brunner and Grover non-white. And I'm completely fine with that, cause I didn't have as clear an idea of what they looked like. I can totally read the books over again and imagine Grover as Indian and Mr Brunner as black. But I can't do that with Annabeth. I'm probably gonna get flamed and called racist but whatever, the show as a whole is pretty good I'm just personally annoyed about that one part.
On thing that I have really been loving is how the show is portraying the gods. In the movies the gods r all serious and seem somewhat infallible (aside from hades and Mr d) which just takes part of the soul out of the story. The way the show is really expressing how weird/immature most of the gods are even though they r so powerful makes the story feel so much like the books. The show really feels like the demigods r suffering from the actions/world of the gods which is what this whole family story is abt anyway.
The show is doing an amazing job so far. My favorite thing about it is that you can tell the people who made it really do care about and love the books. You can feel it. Little details and aspects of the story are really being made a priority and in some cases even further emphasized, like the gods being messed up and Percy being the one who’s different and better. Any slight changes that are made feel to me still remarkably true to the spirit of the books, which is kind of amazing. And most importantly imo, the ones that are made feel like they were made with careful intention and planning behind them, which makes even the ones I don’t love at first so much easier to get on board with (Annabeth being the ones to see the Fates is a good example). I’ve seen a few people get upset because it’s not essentially 1-1, which people have to understand is never going to happen in a book adaptation. I love the books more than anyone, but if you hold on to them so tight hoping to see every single word come off the page, you’re going to be disappointed no matter what, and you’re probably going to miss out on a really great adaptation. They’re trying to make the best possible Percy Jackson and The Olympians TV show that they can, and I think they’re doing a really awesome job. Lastly, the cast. It really feels cool knowing that Rick picked them, because you can see why. They get their characters so well. And Walker as Percy is the best part of the show for me so far. It’s remarkable to me how well he’s managed to capture his essence. I don’t even know the kid and I actually feel weirdly proud of him. I can’t wait to see what they cook up for the rest of the season and hopefully beyond!
The way Percy was ready to give up in episode 3, because their buss got ambushed and now he’s full on telling Ares to shut up and telling him that the quest won’t fail. This shows growth🥰🙏🏻
They actually did mention the hera/ hephaestus chair story in the books. It was just in the Heroes of Olympus series. At the end of The Lost Hero, when Jason, Piper, and Leo are talking about how Hera got captured in the wolf house, she references Hephaestus building a golden throne that trapped her and she had to beg for escape.
The thing I wish was there the most is the spiders because it's important thing about Annabeths character, becuase she seems so fearless and its shocking she is affraid of a thing as unimportant and non greek monstery thing like spiders.
Arachna the mother of all spiders. The same one who has a vendetta against Athena and her children. The same one who beat Athena and then got turned into the first spider by Athena. And you're saying that spiders are unimportant and not a Greek monster. There's an entire book where Annabeth and Percy end up in hell because of a spider.

My absolute FAVORITE episode by far, we finally get “seaweed brain!!!” Not only that but Ares’ modernized characterization of being a Twitter troll was pure gold.
When Ares said, he’s starting a war on Twitter it made me laugh so hard
@@noobmasterruben5167 same, I love his character in the show it’s awesome to see
I totally agree. I love how they were able to make ares seem unhinged enough to have weakness through that but also showing how dangerous the gods can be. I really like how they r setting up the arguments for and against the gods so early too bc it’s obviously very important.
I absolutely loved Ares actor, Him starting a twitter war made me laugh pretty hard. I also think his looks fits idk why but he just "fits"
@@umbralowl his casting and acting were absolutely on point
I think Adam being Ares was a great casting choice due to him being a professional wrestler for WWE and AEW. Also he used to play a bad guy in wrestling so he probably used some of his work in that for this character.
I love Adam in the role but I could also see jon moxley in the role as well
@@ryankenter4779 that actually is a great casting for Ares. I think many wrestlers could have fit him. Especially maybe Roman but I don’t think his schedule would fit. Casting Edge was the right call though.
This show has made some very good casting choices, you can see that looks are secondary here
@@Bobber_Foote my only concern is that is had that be true then this show would have been at least TV-14
I thought the same thing. I think it's important that even a fearless warrior like Annabeth can still have fears.
@@alyssawaters7781I'm hopeful they'll show it in the future, but it was nice to still see that vulnerability, her being scared right before he got into the chair

The instrument they gave to Hephaestus makes me think they added it to be a parallel to Leo's Valdezenator and it made me smile so much cause it feels so nice Rick can add little details like that now that he's adapting an already fully realized story
Or perhaps a reference to his son ardalus, who in a myth invented th reed flute that hephaestus played in th ep
@@Gradestar10
Perhaps even both!
I dont think its a reference to Valdezenator as that would not make much sense bcoz Leo made it for Apollo as far as I remember. I personally think Hephaestus will give that instrument to Grover at the end of the season as a gift for some reason bcoz we havent seen Grovers reed pipes yet.
@ARYAJONDHALE this idea of how Grover gets his pipes is fantastic. They also look really small, so may look right-sized on Grover
Just to help clarify: Athena and Ares are both war gods. But if you want to distinguish them, Ares is more the god of action (doing stuff- charging, stabbing, etc.) Ares is all about bloodlust. He doesn't really care who wins, as long as people fight, fight, fight.
Athena is more about forethought in war (leadership, protection, strategy,, etc. and, yes, peacetimes.)
Athena is all about pride.
To both, war is a just a game though.
Mortality, consequences, why should they care? lol

"Fairly and properly" what god is that?
In the Iliad Zeus tells Athena to shot a arrow in a achean soldier to once again start the battle. And she does that gladly. There is no fairness in war, and she not represent fairness in war. But she does represent a more strategic war than Ares.
I bet Disney already has a new Percy Jackson water ride lined up after this episode! 😂

That honestly looked like SO MUCH FUN!
They better do
One can hope, but they still haven't made a proper Alladin ride escaping the Cave of Wonders, so it could go either way.

I’m hoping we see them, at least a cameo.
The butterflies of my stomach are trying harder to burst out of my mouth just by getting the thought of seeing those 'certain pair of siblings' in the next episode 🌝✨

@@skyden4637 mostly tiktoks and tumblr

I definitely agree that cutting to black after the water powers scenes work to show him being disoriented. I'm glad you mentioned that
All the Percabeth scenes were so cute I was squealing like a schoolgirl every time Walker and Leah have such good chemistry

I think its likely to get 1 season per book. So just 5. I guess after that maybe spinoffs
Or heroes of Olympus next 👀
I believe that’s the reason for less first person. Heroes of Olympus emphasizes each character more thoroughly than the original Percy series.
Great post! I also think this is true for the day player characters aka monster attack characters. Because of the Pov shift we really get to hear their POV and those actors really shine. No one feels like a throw away character, they all shine some light on the world and the themes of the story.
I really love the chemistry between Percy and anabeth in the series
They really were holding back episode 1 and 2
Personally I think that the percabeth fans are gonna be happy with this one it was amazing to see there relationship develop and we even got a sea weed brain drop so great episode over all
Personally I think that this is the best episode so far and I also loved Ares and how they mentioned that they were cousins also first
13:59 my favorite moment in the whole show so far.

Lol
I felt really bad for Hephaestus in the backstory animation because the song was Hephaestus asking what is love because he has never felt it 🥹
Grover is going to say, "Clarisse stole the bolt" which of course we know is wrong, we won't find out until likely the very last scene in the last episode (I won't spoil it)
Wrong, but clever. Mythologically speaking it would make sense, actually
And I love Percy and Annabeth's time at the water park
Honestly all the adults have been stealing the show in the best way ever
I love your Aphrodite theory!

The actors would have to be cast really far in advance at this point and it's very unlikely they'd want to take that risk
What I saw someone say that I now agree makes a lot of sense is that they will see "Nico/Bianca Di Angelo" as the top score of some of the arcade games and stuff
It's perfect for Clarisse, who looks up to her dad even though she isn't treated the way she deserves to be
I thought I was the only one who noticed the "dummy" lines, I'm glad I'm not!
Yea, I can imagine this Hephaestus falling in love with a certain Mechanic and having an extremely cool and hyperactive son
Timothy Omundson suffered a severe stroke in 2017 that's why he has a limp NO ONE IS TAKING ABOUT HOW GOOD A JOB HE DID AND I'M MAD ABOUT IT
Wow! Nice detail. Thanks for highlighting it.
I absolutely loved this episode. The main trio and the two gods delivered.
I loved Grover's conversation with Aries. It showed his bravery and social skills, considering the anger that Aries causes in people and Grover managed to talk to him for that long.
The casting director did a great job with casting, they picked great actors to portray these characters

I’m so glad they added the little hint towards Percy and Annabeth going to the movies and I hope they drop hints like that every season as kind of like the movies being a connection to the state of their relationship. Because when he asks her here it’s definitely still a platonic suggestion, but at the start of book four we know they planned on going to watch one as more of a date date so if they do it right they can maybe parallel their movie going towards the depth of their relationship!

i think grover suspects clarisse as the lightning thief.
Also *spoiler alert* it also makes annabeth’s quest more daunting in mark of athena
I would rate this episode an 8.5/10, I really enjoyed it! It was fun finally seeing Ares in the TV series and having all the scenes with Percy and Annabeth together.
This whole episode was basically a love letter to Percabeth fans, and it made me so happy! 🥰
i was a little sad that they took away the spiders, as it’s and introduction to athena’s kids and their fear of spiders - which obviously has more importance later. but i think that the golden throne was such a great addition that continues to show how great of a character percy is
Annabeth defending Percy saying he was not like others, not like her was really a good touch and heartwarming, didn’t expect this level of bonding so fast, the book was taking it slow and steady but show is jumpin the gun. W adaptation so far.

I love how they gave Ares so much depth even though he isn’t a nice guy. Like his insecurity with Athena as his sister, his humour and modernization with Twitter wars, and ofc his distate with kids. He is not just a one-note villain which I like!!
Ares is definitely going to be a fan favourite😂
"The owl, it's like her best friend" lol

Same here! My well-written dislikable but fun villain radar is going haywire!!!
@@Gradestar10 I know, but I love motorcycles and was pointing out what it was for anyone not familliar with motorcycles.
Yeah, I hope it goes like that. Honestly, I don't really want them to discover the thief this early (I'm waiting for the big reveal.)
If Ares is known as the greek god of brutal warfare, Athena will be the greek goddess of tactical warfare
Basically yeah.
I love you MovieFlame nothing better then watching then seeing he uploaded 15 mins ago fr
I really liked the conversation between Annabeth and Haphestus
love how this episode is making the show interesting for both old and new fans, can't wait to hear what Grover figures out!
I always look forward to seeing your analysis when a new episode drops. Great video!
16:06 I love how the shield foreshadows Luke being the one to steal it
On thing that I have really been loving is how the show is portraying the gods.
Every episode just gets better, freaking awesome!
Grover's line about being a fan of quick surrenders, that's totally foreshadowing for the battle of the labyrinth right?
this series keeps getting better and better. LOVED the 5th episode❤❤
My Percabeth heart was so happy this episode. We basically got fed of Percabeth moments🤧😊
YAY i watch these after each episode, was waiting for this one :DD
The way Percy was ready to give up in episode 3, because their buss got ambushed and now he’s full on telling Ares to shut up and telling him that the quest won’t fail. This shows growth🥰🙏🏻
I was waiting for his input on the new episode
