    Great video! I have a zeon zoysia lawn and it does well in the shade. It does get a little “off color” from the sunny areas but it is still full in the shade. Btw, Zeon is better in shade than other zoysia grasses. Emerald doesn’t do as well.

    BYD. Love the video. I live in Marietta and have a Zeon Zoysia yard and can confirm mine is still green. Yes it’s expensive so I space out the pieces to fill in. Yes it is shade tolerant. I have it growing in my backyard with tall tree shade. Probably 4 hours total of direct sunlight. I’ve bought the big rolls from Super Sod and yes they were awesome at 1st, But I noticed the sod had cuts in the roots from the machine cutting the sod on uneven farm land. So I had parts die off. IMO North Georgia Turff has the BEST Zeon Zoysia. It seems more shade tolerant. They sell it at Pikes for like $3.50 a square. Plug your yard with the Zeon Zoysia and you won’t regret it. (If allowed by HOA). I had Bermuda grass but the Zeon has completely crowded it out. I also have Emerald Zoysia as well and flat out don’t like it. The Zeon & Emerald are fighting it out right now for space and the battle lines look like a stalemate. The Zeon definitely conquered the Bermuda.

      opichocal yep I once got sued by my old HOA on a false accusation for unapproved exterior paint... long story but I DID used the approved color, and they were wrong. However, due some other events I was officially in the crosshairs. Either way, my brother is a very knowledgeable property/loan attorney and basically said do whatever you can to get along with them, because unfortunately they have an extreme upper hand on homeowners with how the laws are written. Eventually I gave up trying to civilly explain the situation and just painted my entire exterior. Oh, after of course I paid their attorney for the time it took to mail me a letter... it’s BS but be careful peeps.

    • @Troy-Echo
      @Troy-Echo 4 роки тому +1

      Oh, I bought a house about 20 months ago and I made very sure the HOA did not apply to how I handle my house, paint, lawn, etc. It's 100% optional and the money paid just allows you to use the pond and playground area and the funds pay for the insurance and upkeep of those areas. HOA's sound good on paper and keep the neighborhood looking better and help keep property values up, but they have too much control over your property that they are not paying anything on, so I'd never move into a neighborhood regulated by an HOA. People have lost their homes due to HOA jerks. I'll never give someone the ability to tell me what to do with the property I own, and those that do, for the most part in my opinion are idiots to do so.

      Yea Princess 77 is beautiful, but it doesn't have great cold or shade tolerance. They are replacing it with Arden 15, but it is very expensive for seed. I am getting readying to put out Yukon in 2 weeks which is supposed to be better than then the P77 in a lot of ways, but not as good as the Arden 15 though.

  • @Troy-Echo
    @Troy-Echo 4 роки тому +3

    Thanks for the great video! My Zenith Zoysia is in full sunlight, but it's promising to see how well it does in the shade too. As the Zoysia starts to grow out from under the shade and has more sunlight, it will spread faster and eventually choke out the Bermuda. I "THINK" (I may be wrong) that Zoysia will green up sooner in the spring as well. If your HOA doesn't want Zoysia, you may need to nip that in the bud before too long. Also, I did not read all the posts, but Zoysia does spread by both stolons and rhizomes, or at least the Zenith Zoysia does which is a Zoysia Japanica hybrid , but I believe all Zoysia does. Thanks for your other video about crabgrass and Quinclorac. I put that down last fall at half strength with no surfactant on newly germinating Zenith Zoysia seed to be safe, and even then it killed pretty much 100% of my MATURE crabgrass, even at half strength. I would have skipped the 2nd half of the split application (mixed with 2, 4D) but what I thought was still living crabgrass was not crabgrass. Someone claiming to be a lawn professional had posted pictures of goosegrass and labeled it as crabgrass which threw me, and neither touched the goosegrass so I just cut it off over and over at the soil level last fall (about 30 gallons worth) until it died off 100% with the first frost. Hey, who says you cannot have Zoysia in your back lawn and Bermuda in the front and have a 2nd channel called Zoysiagrass Central? Most of the herbicides used for one work on the other safely. And you wouldn't need to put down more Zeon Zoysia - I bought a carbon steel 5 in 1 plugging tool on Amazon yesterday for $39. Just take Zoysia plugs from that corner and put them in the back yard in full sunlight, and fill in the empty plugs with top soil that has starter fertilizer mixed in. I'd say in

I do have and HOA, so I went with Empire, since it's bigger blade in comparison to Zeon or Zenith. Let me tell you the leading edge of the runners are like hard spike, you can probably use it as weapon, this this has started to choke out the Saint Augustine that was there.

    Zoysia is some great grass. Rarely needs cutting, stays green forever, Very drought tolerant. But yes it is very expensive. That's why the plug method is the preferred method of planting. But even that, it's so SLOW growing that the plug rows would need to be rather close together. Unless you don't mind a checkerboard pattern for 2-3 years. But like you it would still be very expensive to cover my 1+ acres. Maybe I'll just do it in 1/4's, front yard first.

      I planted last year about 45 days before the first frost (LONG STORY OF NIGHTMARES), but it's the end of May and I have seen my fair share of stolons spreading and what Zoysia survived the winter is already pretty dense and looking good. I have bare spots that I'm about to reseed now that the temps are fairly steady in the upper 70's and lower to mid 80's consistently, and figure for the most part I'll have a full Zoysia lawn by the time it goes dormant which around the Richmond, VA area is typically the last week of October. I'm sure the stolons and rhizomes will spread a lot more over the next few years, but it's an amazing turf.

    I live in Oklahoma and have been trying to get a lawn forever. My problem is it's mostly shade. As one would expect the bermuda grew OK in the sun and fescue in the shade but clumppy. I'm on the side of a hill and I had a place that was washing out so I went to Home Depot to get a small amount of bermuda sod. After I was almost loaded with a hundred square feet of sod I was informed it was Zoysia. I decided to just buy it because like all my other grass it will last about a year before the shade takes it. That was 5 years ago and you cannot believe 1) How good it looks 2) How much it's spred and mostly 3) The Zoysia has even spread under my trees and it is very thick. Since then I have cut plugs and transplanted it everywhere in my yard. Here is where you will call BS on me, I have thick Zoysia in places that only get a little over an hour of sunlight per day. I have no idea what veriety I bought and I am not a skilled professional just telling my side of the Zoysia vs Bermuda side of the story. In addition, it is so thick weeds hardly ever show up. I'm looking foreward to it taking over my entire yard.

    Start plugging the area by your wood line with Zoysia you have and watch it spread.

    This zoysa is better! But, in negeral, theres o lot of fungus problems! Otherwise, it grows by stolons as well! Just like bermudas! In my hause, I still prefer the bermudas, because its easy to manteing!

    I am Grateful I don’t live in an HOA,but I did lay down well over 5000lbs of Bermuda sod this yr,🤓👍Just glad it’s all done,I also broadcasted some Rebel tall fescue to fill in some bare spots that I take care of for the County

      I was about to type this in until I saw this. Am really considering zoysia grass and I live up in Indianapolis area. As I see it I rather have a green lawn in the summer rather brown yard. Then in the winter brown yard because everything is going brown anyways
