  • The HAL lamp housing is the back bone of ZEISS's Axio line of microscopes. This tungsten halogen light source is an important component of imaging techniques, including brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast and DIC. In transmitted and reflected light microscopy, the HAL lamp housing is an integral part of producing even illumination across the visual field and good contrast for distinguishing structural details. The light bulb alignment is one part of what is called Koehler illumination. For that reason it is important to check the alignment and focus of the HAL lamp, especially after installing a new bulb.
