- A very enjoyable afternoon spent at Ashford International situated alongside High Speed 1 where we see plenty of services from SouthEastern, Southern and Eurostar.
Ashford International is really a junction station. This I because it has links to the South Eastern Mainline, Marshlink Line and High Speed 1.
The station has gone through several different refurbishments with The first station being built in 1842 by the South Eastern Railway, the station was formally opened on December 1st.
It remained the property of the South Eastern Railway until Southern took control in 1923, once this happened they then renamed the station Ashford Kent.
Once British Rail was introduced in 1948 a lot of the former services were getting changed and newer ones introduced to meet with the growing demand of passengers.
Eventually Network Southeast took over operations when BR privatised its network.
The station went through a major redevelopment when the Kent Electrification Scheme went through its second phase, this resulted in two former bay platforms being converted into through lines and the former station buildings on the left and right of the railway were demolished and replaced with an over bridge that contains a booking hall, newsagents and catering facilities.
The station eventually became known as Ashford International in the 1990's when the plans for the European Services were introduced by Eurostar. This in turn then brought 2 new platforms into the equation to split the regional and international services.
My next station is Tonbridge.

Amazing video and I'm glad that Eurostar kept some 373s.
Yeah not a lot of choice currently, the 374s haven't had clearance for Ashford Int after they bodged a points upgrade a few month ago
The 374 you missed as you were parking was probably ES9024 the 12.31 London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord
OMG I WAS THERE YESTERDAY!!!! Also wow I had no idea Southern came here.
Southern come here all the time from Eastbourne
@@Tornado922 and Hastings
Same
Finally got to experience one of them 395 Javelins at 140mph a few weeks ago they're absolutely immense units, insane how fast they go
They are great to travel on
I Have Been To Ashford A Lot Of Time
Brilliant video Jarred. I have many fond memories of this station. Used to get the train from Hastings and change here to get to Folkestone Central a while back and also saw the flyover being constructed for the HS1 route to London St.Pancras.
Thanks very much Paul. I love coming to this station there is always something good to catch here and having the flyover right next to the station it also means that you get the Eurostars thundering past overhead. It would be great to see more international services on the line. Maybe one day we will see the likes of RENFE, SNCF and DB using this line
i am glad you had an enjoyable day i go there from time to time the only disappointment ive got is not very much freight like there use to be your fine more at tonbridge also gravesend is another great spot 👍👍
I guess in terms of freight coming through here you'll have get rather lucky, but either way it was a great day spent here
@@Tornado922 your right there if you do see them there either early morning or late evening😀
If only I knew you were coming I could've come and met you. I live there!!
I advertise where I am going on the community section of my channel
Superb video. I have been to Ashford International a couple of times and it's a great fun station to visit especially with the Eurostar's speeding past on the flyover. :)
Thanks very much, I love coming here it is a great station to come to. Having the Eurostars flying past overhead make this all the more better
@@Tornado922 You're welcome, it certainly does, glad you enjoy going to Ashford International Station. :)

Guy over PA system: There are plugs sockets on Southeastern Highspeed services to (pause) charge your mobile devices
Person with TV: Oh man, I can't plug my TV in and watch TV as I go to London
Great video.
Thanks very much
I went to London Euston on the 19th and I was going to Manchester Piccadilly but the trains were cancelled so I had to go back to Victoria station and get a coach 5 hours all the way to Manchester via Liverpool it was a nightmare but it happens sometimes with trains.
All thr trains where running from Harrow and Wealdstone so it wasen't cancelled.
London eustons closed for signalling and track works
@@celovity_747 you are awesome
xPlaneTrainLift Guy maybe i should of gone Harrow LOL

I will go there at some stage this year
Great video on Ashford international but on the 18th of April I brought the London to faversham high speed on train simulator
thanks very much
Another spectacular video tornado
Thanks very much

i got a question why does the 395 lower its pantograph (dunno if i spelled it right) and switches to 3rd rail?
All of the southeastern network (minus high speed 1) is third rail only, so to provide a regional service from london to places such as ramsgate the trains must change voltage
Great video! 👍
Thanks very much
really funny and a great station.
Thanks very much
amazing video i was going to go there to meet you but i decided not to because i didnt want to ruin your video
Thanks very much, you should've come along at no stage would you have ruined my video. I always welcome people to come along and join me if they want to

Yes they do
Only Eurostar stopping services towards Paris Nord 🇨🇵
I thought the 373 was extinct
Nope
Do eurostars stop at Ashford int.?
yes they do, there is one at the end of this film
Tornado922 how regularly?
@@travia6688 before covid I think there was 5 trains per day to Paris, 3 to Brussels, 1 to Marne-la-Vallée, 3 per week to Marseille in the summer and 3 per week to Bourg Saint Maurice in the Winter
