  • I don't know. This Nintendo classic isn't hitting me.

Maybe it's because I went to grade school in the South, but we never had to climb ropes in gym class. We mostly just played basketball, exercised and lifted weights.
Donkey Kong, Jr. is solid arcade fun to me. I used to play through the Colecovision version for fun when I first got it. I get that it doesn't click with everyone though. Even though it's not really your thing, I enjoyed watching you play through the NES version for a little bit.

Oddly, I could see myself keeping this on the Atari. Sometimes you're in the mood to play a certain era--a certain console library. When I popped Moon Patrol in my Atari 2600 for the very first time in 2011, I was stunned that the console could deliver an experience that closely resembled the arcade (with music!). I could never get rid of that. If I saw a decent DK Jr port on the 2600, I probably wouldn't get rid of it either. It would have a 2600 flavor, not quite the arcade port.
Otherwise, I'm on the Nintendo; I'm going to play games that take advantage of the platform. Contemporaneously someone really liking DKjr in the arcade would probably get all they wanted from the NES with this port, especially since later titles which really kicked things up a notch weren't released yet.
I always hear about the stunning Coleco versions of the DK games. It must have been something at the time even with that controller. People didn't know any better. We had a 5200 and didn't think anything of it.
